swifty.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Aaron.
Long story short, flywheel sheared the dowel and one bolt, others all where able to be taken out via my fingers. Crank and flywheel have nicks and scratches. I tried drilling out the one bolt, and even my cobalt bits are not really making any good work at it. I've never had such a tough time drilling something out. So, whatever. Car just sits. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
buy my auto and swap parts on it, it will be sick. Then you can sell your awesome trans and other stuff or have one 5 spd and one auto, auto drag car and 5 spd, daily/auto-x/whatever

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I'm never converting this car to an auto, sorry. To me, that takes the fun out of driving.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Try welding a nut onto that stuck bolt. Works every time!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
...perhaps if I had a welder I could do that.

I like shifting, and not being lazy when I drive. Depressing a pedal and doing nothing else is not only boring to me, but makes me feel like a girl. :D

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
^A lot more than swifty.
Note swifty is a guy that can't keep a running dsm. After driving my DSM daily for the last year and seeing the toughness of Auto, please take note there are a ton of stock trans DSMs that are in teh solid 10s so they are capable, but I don't feel confident in the way i drive or the amount of time i drive on them to hold as good as an auto would. At vs. 5 spd is just a preferance/ opinion, but 5 spds impress the kids a lot more. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Manuals seem to be a dying breed. The Evo X SST is awful good and Ferrari seems to offer manuals as an afterthought these days.
It seems that the fastest drag cars have auto-manuals or whatever they're called. What does Rau run on his car? |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Yeah, it seems auto in DSM's are way more durable and obviously more consistent than manuals, you just don't see a lot of them because they aren't as fun to drive around town in my opinion. Any big power car that is strictly a straight line drag car would be better suited to be an auto but not nearly as 'cool'.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You still have to shift most high performance autos, you just don't have to deal with that clutch pedal or boost drop during shifts.
Rau runs a manual, but it's a sequential that you don't have to use the clutch with once you are in first gear, so it's like an driving a drag auto that you shift. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Ok we get it.. swifty doesn't want an auto. I think we should get back on topic with swiftys car and the 5sd he's keeping.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Ya really. And Aaron, I've kept my DSM running for quite a while. Have you put more then six years of abuse on your shortblock without once pulling it apart or messing with it? What? Because all of a sudden I have issues, I don't know how to keep a car running? This is why I don't bother posting much more on what it is I do or don't do. You just further reminded me why. I do something, break something, or have an opinion on something, I'll get shit for it.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I had a nice response but i hit the backspace.
Basically dude we all want to see this car running so don't get too upset. I will ease my shots at you, but sometimes u make it easy and when u make statements against an auto like that you kind of ask for it. This whole site would like to help you get that car running again, i would trade you my FMIC in order to help you, but it looks like that I will get to drive my old 5spd at the track and on the street so I don't want to wonder if it slows down or gets worse because of the trade. My vote along with a lot of others would be go smaller and simpler, 35r setup is plenty for power and speed and yet its still pretty big. Good luck |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I know the stabbing is meant in a joking manner. But believe me no one is more frustrated in this shittyrd then myself. Im constantly doubting it, and the setup, motor, and everything else. Trading the fmic, would help eliminate, and point in the right direction why the car makes well under what it respectfully should.
Autos in their own right Im sure are fun, but, being as I do still drive this car on the street, I perfer a little shifting fun. Perhaps I'll just part it all out, and find a new hobby. I hear bottle collecting can be fun.. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
^lol. if you want you can use it, but you would have to come and pull it, but thats not really hard either.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I just might do that, once I get this crap with the tranny/flywheel/etc sorted out. up to you. Otherwise, I'll order one from ETS over the winter, and sell the core I currently have.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Just gonna throw this out there: swifty posted pics on facebook and not this build thread/MitsuStyle (shoutbox doesn't count swifty, sorry). Payban worthy, imho.
