Calling Capital One might just throw up some red flags since they definitely won't understand what you're trying to accomplish and just assume you're somehow scamming them out of $$$.

LaMettry's is probably your best bet since they're willing to work with you, but I do agree, $1100 seems steep.

Yeah that's pretty fucked up, that bodyshop had zero problem with doing paint work on my IX.

I should see how much paint was for both my bumpers as well as the quarter, fender, and door. Pretty sure it was less than that.

For $900 the WRX got a brand new bumper, 3-stage pearl paint, all the installation labor, and some body adjustments to the hood/fenders.

I'm gonna see how much the quote is when I take it in. Honestly though it seems like labor/work is cheaper in Texas than up here just in general. But hopefully I get lucky.

Spaz, so did they work with you on your insurance check? Do you remember the gentleman/woman's name you were working with?

I don't get a check, remember? That shop acts as the claims adjuster for my insurance. They just bill the insurance for whatever the final amount ends up being.

All of the actual work stuff I've talked with them about has been through Gerald.

Funny thing, the car is getting towed tomorrow to DB for the tranny rebuild and speed density tune. I pulled up the blow pic to see what date it was so I could look at my phone history and was like FUCK it doesn't go back that far! Then I looked up again and saw the phone number on the side of the truck :) It's been a long weekend, was barfing most of it.

OK time for an update.

Towed the car to DB and talked to Shane quite a bit. We're gonna put some fresh oil/gas in it. Get the tranny fixed and then have him speed density tune it. I'm not looking for more power just a smoother drive with about the same power.

I also have two leads on shops and will have my new trunk lid and an extra evo spoiler tomorrow. After that it's off to Jim's to get the seats/door cards, Jae Sun's to get the JDM rear end and hopefully everything will be like new.

So far $190 in towing fees. Lets hope that the tranny doesn't cost an arm and a leg so I can still get a new turbo for it.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

The Evo's tranny, per the transmission repair shop, said that it's going to cost fucking $2k to repair in parts alone. Somehow 2nd gear is gone even though I was shifting from 3rd to 4th, granted I know nothing about transmissions but this is weird to me.

Shane and I are working on figuring it out and he's being really awesome and helpful.

TRE came up and I'm also thinking about doing a 5spd swap or finding another 6 speed. If any of you guys know of anyone that has one laying around, let me know.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

sounds like a new tranny would almost be cheaper than repairing the broken one 2K just for parts?!?! thats crazy, are the a retributable shop? and do you trust them?

Kracka 03-01-2011 07:53 PM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Might be time for a 2nd opinion, or just go straight to an Evo tranny specialist. I bet you could buy a working used 6-speed and have it fully rebuilt for less than $2k, that seems crazy.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

I think I might do a 5 speed swap. I don't know, too many options/directions/variables for me to get my head around right now.

Shane and I were trying to figure out what all is needed to do a swap, I have yet to look into it.

Also the shop is reputable and what DB uses for all their builds. They do 5 speeds and DSM trannies for very little and do a good job.

The 6 speeds are spendy transmissions. Around $5k new. If your cluster gear got messed up the price goes right through the roof on the repair.

Best bet is to find a used 5 speed and have it rebuilt.

Check with Ron at RS too for transmissions, I swear he either has one or he knows someone with one for sale.

Good Luck!
