Oh haha sorry evo tuner didn't know if u were being a dick and gonna say better not be doing in the house or something. It's really easy, parts need to be stripped and clean, buy the Eastwood powder gun and powder, put parts on an over rack attach the grounding cable to that, spray on powder and place in the preheated oven at 450, check parts every five min or so until all the parts look wet. Turn oven to 400 for 20 min, then turn oven off and open the door and let the parts cool slowly. That's it. Not really too much of a learning curve until you are multi coating

Hmm sounds pretty easy, have any pics of your setup? If youre okay with sharing it.

It's an oven and the nice Eastwood gun, air compressor and that's it. Not much to show

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Sounds like the same setup I used to have. Eastwood hobby gun, free oven off craigslist and a toaster oven from the thrift shop for smaller parts. Air compressor and an inline water filter. Worked decent enough, but I got rid of it all after realising how much of a mess it made in my garage. There is still pink powder in there from Mark's valve covers to this day :) lol

Anyone have the trans bearing and gear removal tool I can borrow? I am ready to start tearing down for syncros hub sliders a new shift fork and whatever else I'll need

Lol halon so far the mess is worth it. The prep is the only crap part of it imo

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Yeah, if you don't mind the mess it's all good. I did it for a few years, and finally just got to the point that I decided I was done with it. Everything in my garage had a layer of "dust" on it haha.

Prep definitly sucked too. I did chemical stripping which gets to messy and old real quick. And when that failed, I'd have to resort to finding someone with a blaster or have it blasted at work.

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

yeah tried one that looks like that and failed on the first bearing i used it on. the clearances are so tight between the bearings and gears

These 2 things is all you need, just press the shafts out. You don't press everything apart individually.

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

oh lol ok that helps but I tried to get the end bearings so how do i get those? also what gear do i press from?

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

There is a tranny rebuild how to on vfaq

dsmreck 03-04-2014 11:27 PM

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

unless you see something i don't mark i see dre's build and it tells nothing about how and where to press. also my service manual conveniently skips that part also. why don't those who this is easy for just illustrate a dummy pic or tutorial for me instead of posting on this project thread how to search around the internet for answers? please if all you have to say is search around and believe me I have than don't waste a post as someone with a better answer may miss this...

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

of pressing gears off? don't see it

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Go to 2g manual trans rebuild it's on the 4th or 5th pages. It shows assembly but you can figure it out from there.

TkrPerformance 03-05-2014 08:08 AM

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

So does the 1g tranny rebuild. Comes apart the same way.

dsmreck 03-05-2014 08:13 AM

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Oh now I get it I mean I said I've looked at it plenty and have the manual in front of my face and tried telling you guys it's not there but for the sake of you guys giving me the it's on vfaq 16 more times I get it haha. I'll call Tim again today

Sorry for being a dick on here it's just frustrating knowing I read dres build and I have the service manual and dre literally got two new shafts instead of pressing those bearings off idk
