Re: My Winter Upgrades

Well got a little bit done today. It doesn't seem like there's that much to do, but god when you stare at the car it seems like it'll never be done.

Today I went up to TNT and bought 2 FAL 10" fans (had 1 in stock, other 1 will be here friday). I will be running those as pullers (it's all I have room for), and will have my old cheap 10" from Checker as a pusher. I think I did good today though. I removed the cheap Checker puller 10", and I noticed something. They come from Checker with the blades setup to be a pusher. I thought for sure I had them running as pullers, but the blades are setup for pushers. So this could explain my whole running hot on the freeway issue I've been battling. Yaay! Anyhow, got the 1 FAL puller installed on the passenger side and wired up. Got the 10" pusher mounted but not wired up yet. Will finish the fans up on Friday when I get the other FAL.

I got the T3 gasket installed on the turbo. I do miss how easy it was to take off the turbo bolts on a 2G manifold. It's not so easy getting an Allen Wrench on these bolts. Also hooked up the oil feed line.

I still have a lot to do though.

Little by little, getting more done.

Today I got the SS socket head cap screws put on the valve cover. Got some new studs for mounting the TB. It is mounted now. I had to take the coupler off the TB and put it back on. I'm getting better at it, but what a PITA. Anywho, got the TB mounted with studs and nuts, got the UIC pipe on. Took the turbo off because I want to take the coupler to work tomorrow and cut it down a little bit. Also need to modify the lower IC pipe. So will be taking that to work tommorrow to cut. Also got a new coupler from Napa to replace the ghetto one that was going from the FMIC to the UICP. I took the air filter off to give it it's yearly cleaning. It gets pretty dirty in that fender well. Also took off the old small mitsu filter and replaced it with the ultra small RX8 filter. Getting close! All I have for a camera right now is my cell phone, so sorry for the shitty pics.

Got a bit done today. Picked up the 2nd FAL fan and installed it as a puller. Got all the IC piping hooked up, which actually ended up being kind of a PITA since the turbo outlet is a little lower then usual, the NT TB. Glad I had a spare hump hose laying around as it helped a lot on the lower IC pipe. But got it all worked out. Turbo is back on, intake is on (haven't put the MAS or Filter on yet). FMIC is on.

More shitty cell phone pics attached!

I like that intake pipe. So where is your MAF?

Halon 04-05-2008 01:31 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Thanks, Kyle at MAP made it. My MAS attaches to the end of that pipe, and the filter right on the end of the MAS. So they are both located down in the stock SMIC area.

Got the filter cleaned up pretty good, just need to oil it up now and I can put that stuff on. Still gotta put the new fuel line on and the dual Walbro setup. Then I should be trying to get ahold of Jet to get the new exhaust built.

Then she'll be ready to rock.

TiTe. What'd that run ya if you don't mind me asking? I need to get the GSX done, it was hot out there today.

I'm not into group buys on a service, unless it's dyno time. I didn't put the two together.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Well got a lot of the loose ends tied up today. I got the JMF Battery Kit installed. The install isn't perfect because apparently you need the A/C removed for it to fit right. But I got it half assed in there. The battery just doesn't fully sit inside the little square base where it's supposed to.

My filter is cleaned and I installed it an the MAF. Got the Turbo oil drain hooked up. Got all the misc tools and bolts removed out of the engine bay. Finished installing the rest of the SS hardware I have for now. Relocated the coolant overflow. Added coolant and Pennzoil Platinum 10w30. Basically it's all buttoned up for Jet to build the exhaust for now. Once the exhaust is done, then it's just a matter of me triple checking everything before starting it up. Now, gotta get ready to leave for Spain in 7 hours.

Will you trim that extra hose for the TB elbow?

Halon 04-09-2008 05:24 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I don't have a TB elbow anymore, the coupler connects straight to the TB. But if you're referring to that extra 2 inches after the clamp, no I highly doubt I'll trim that.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

What up fool.
I found a TB today, car looks good, however i am a little worried about the position of the MAS sensor in the wheel well i am not sure how much that thing is gonna like rain.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Agreed brownman...

I got my intake where you do Brandon, except my MAS is still under the hood, do you not have room to fit it in?

Looking good though, glad to see you are getting it done your self.

Halon 04-10-2008 03:19 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I have no concerns with it there. It was there all last year with no issues. If you're concerns are it getting wet, then feel comforted in knowing this car rarely sees rain. But even in rain, I'm still not concerned.
The plan is later on when V3 of DSMLink comes out, I want to switch to speed density so the MAS will be eliminated completely, and the filter will just be on the end of the pipe.

turbotalon1g 04-10-2008 08:07 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

LMAO V3, lol.

Thats cool then man, if you tested it out then no worries.
But for me i like being able to shorten the intake in the winter into the engine bay then in the SMIC location for summer.

There are a lot more BW setups coming out.

Exactly what I was worrying about. Are you going to protect it in any way at all? Maybe a plastic shield? Or some aluminum at least?

F it, it doesn't rain in Minnesota...

I have had my filter out there for years and BR sells an intake like that too.

Get over it. If you don't like it, don't run one. Next topic.

Jet, get my exhaust done :) !!

I just got my talon hauled over to my house yesterday. I should have yours over in a couple weeks. I am going to try and get all the tools moved downstairs this weekend, then I have to run some heavy duty wiring down for the welders. She'll be looking pretty when you get home, when are you coming back?

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I was talking about the MAS not the filter.

Anywho, B man said about a month. I can't wait to see your car in action B.

I'm thinking around May 1-7 anytime in that range, is when I'll be home. Let me know when you get started on her! Maybe I'll give you a ring from Spain here to make sure we both kind of know exactly what we want to do with it.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I'm also now considering purchasing the smaller comp cover for my 362. I'm guessing it'll negatively affect performance a little bit, but for me I think it'll be a good compromise to help things fit a little bit better than they do with this larger cover. I haven't purchased it yet, but highly considering it. I don't think the smaller cover is neccessarily "small", I think it's still decently sized so I think it will still perform well. Anyone have any good input on this? I'm wondering if the smaller cover is still similar in size to say the cover that comes on FP's 35R's, but not sure.

Just found out that to use the smaller cover, I'd have to send the turbo in to get the backplate machined down a little, so I will be sticking with the big cover.

Also just talked with Jim at JMF about making me a custom dual chambered catch can that should help save on space a little, and look nice and clean like everything he makes does. Attached is a real rough drawing of it to give a basic idea. Also since I seem to have no time anymore and really need to get this thing running, I ditched my SMIM manifold project and just purchased a new Race SMIM from him as well. I still plan on building my manifold for fun, but who knows when it'll get done.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Sweet.

A question for you, with the inlet so low, what will happen once the fluid level becomes higher than that, won't it start to backup the tube?(depending the tube level of course)

Just something to think about maybe.

Hit me up when you get back i get done with school in 2 weeks then we party like rockstars.

Halon 04-30-2008 08:31 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Good thought. They should be placing the inlets about half way up actually, and the outlets towards the top. I'll just have to make sure I regularly drain it.

Same here. I'm thinking group buy.

Halon 05-01-2008 02:04 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Price I was quoted was $125 plus shipping. With combined shipping, I would be willing to suck up the shipping costs since I'm already buying a SMIM from him as well making the shipment a bit bulkier. So we'll just say a flat $125. If you are interested, see the thread I started:

Mine will just use rubber hosing and barbed fittings, but he can do AN as well.

Here's a quick idea of how mine will be setup.
