How does she ride? Pics?

Kracka 02-21-2009 06:03 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I'll get some pics up tomorrow, but the ride is very soft and plush compared to the Tein S.Techs. I almost wish it was a bit firmer though! LOL Maybe I should have gotten the Swift R-Specs instead :)

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

why those shocks as opposed to the bilsteins?

Kracka 02-21-2009 06:14 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I decided the Bilsteins would be too soft since they're designed for a more comfortable ride. After driving with this new setup I am very glad I did not get them b/c its already a bit on the soft side for me. Overall I am happy though; I can't complain about a softer ride and better handling. I do miss the slammed look though ;)

HAHA its still 1.4" down from stock :)

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

The car still looks nice, just not quite as slammed in the front. Everything came out/went back in easy as pie and these springs are an awesome mix of comfort and performance.

They ride *just* slightly firmer than my eibach pro-kits.

Yeah, when I rode in your car, scheides, it was like driving a cadillac through snow, and really really slow.

Just ordered my new brake setup!

-RacingBrake ET500 pads
-Technafit SS brake lines (black)
-ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid

I hear good things about all these products and found them to be what I consider the best bang for the buck parts for my street/autocross car.

Here is a graph showing air temps at the MAF (blue) vs. air temps inside the intake manifold (purple). This was a 3rd gear pull on DB's dyno.

MAF temps are above ambient due to engine bay heat. Once the car starts flowing air you'll notice the MAF temps drop drastically as its pulling in cooler, fresh, air.

Super Bleeder!! 03-03-2009 07:43 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

Hmmmm maybe. Yea the stagnant air is going to get ingested and replaced with cooler air but the engine is going to be pumping more heat into the bay as well throughout the pull.

Something about this temp data erks me the wrong way. The sensors arent even from the same manufacturer are they? How does the manifold sensor calibrate?

scheides 03-03-2009 08:07 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

The manifold temp sensor is a GM IAT, mounted the the top of the intake manifold plenum, next to the map sensor. The other sensor is in the oem MAF. This has been discussed to death on evoM, and its what we all see. Part of the issue is the sensors (MAT) themselves becoming heat-soaked, but once air starts rushing through them they cool down. The important data is near the end of the pull, if temps rise or stay flat. This is a pretty good example of staying quite flat, esp considering its just on the dyno not on the street where there's a LOT more air coming through the engine bay.

If you think this is fuct up, wait till you see what my car does with the alky spraying ;)

When the car is cold (been sitting overnight for example), the sensor readings are equal.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I think if we had an Audi dyno day fan setup, then the intake manifold temps might be lower than the MAF temps.

I don't need the Audi fan setup, my manifold temps are already lower than temps at the MAF ;) Manifold temp is the purple line and MAF temp is the blue line.

I'd really like to get a temp sensor to log ambient temps too; I might have to look into if that's possible.

Gheyrod got its spring waxing and door/hood/trunk seal greasing today! Tempted to put the summer floor mats in too.

I'd wait on the floor mats. I heard we're supposed to get snow this week.

It ties together the front control arms and the chassis.

huh... Interesting. Any tests or anything to prove this actually does anything other than lower ground clearance?

Haha

The M had a brace like that, was called an X brace, and you could definitely feel it stiffen up the under body though.

Nope, but I had something similar (Spoon X-brace) on my S2000 and if it can make a difference with that ultra-stiff chassis this should help with the Evo's chassis pretty nicely :) I don't mind testing out unproven products that I feel will be of benefit. Even if it doesn't actually noticeably stiffen the chassis, at least I know it will help keep the car in shape over time. When Scheides installed his front motor mount it was noticed that his chassis is starting to deform with age and its fairly common on higher mileage S2k's for the X-braces to not fit. Also, it really won't be lowering ground clearance by much since this bar is replacing some thinner, weaker, stock bars. Besides, I just lifted the car .5" a few weeks ago :D By biggest worry though is whether or not this bar will clear my Buschur 3" downpipe...we shall find out tomorrow evening!

Even Miata's have sub frame connectors and braces available. I'd give it the +1, Maybe even add some X braces in there. What does it weigh?

It looks like 14/16 gauge oval tube, mild steel w/ 1/8" flanges. I would guess 5-8lbs.

John is probably about right at 5 lbs; its fairly lightweight considering the size.
