It's dropping a bit at redline, 25.5ish

Ask Shane where your IDCs end up at when you're done. Did you up base fuel pressure?

Coupler pooped off

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

So one coupler was leaking slightly (the whole time it looks like) and then when we hit 410 two popped off and one was the LICP one off the IC. So the bumper needed to come off but we didn't have time.

SO basically, back to square one, well not that far but I am going to pull the bumper tomorrow and leave it at home and tighten everything. Then we will tune bumperless to avoid this again.

Took us a bit with the boost leak test...everything was going so smooth. I am thinking 420whp should be possible on this turbo but we will have to see. Spool was about 700 later at 25psi.

I will post up a few graphs later.

Get a wrench on those t-bolts and be manly about it! If you feel the pipes are too slippery rough them up a bit with sandpaper, but I've never had to do that before.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

30psi and 450hp possible?

I want to see how broad the power band is on a X compared to a IX.

This thread delivers!

Or ask to use some of Shane's hairspray.

this this!

Sorry about that man, but the numbers sound promising! Sounds like you are really close to complete, prepare for awesomeness on the road!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

I am thinking when I get my clutch in and we crank it up to 32ish psi that 430-440 is what we will see.

I could be wrong though, might make more. If i do some valve springs/retainers and we rev it out to 8000 we could get there i bet.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

Compared to stock, if you look at 25psi, lost about 700 as i said. Still not a laggy turbo, people who call this laggy need to ride in a 35r car.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

Wow I'm still amazed how power on the X's just goes up up up! Looks like a set of springs could really help your peak whp by 20whp or so, depending on how high you rev it and when it starts to fall off.

What was peak wtq?

Murlo26 02-26-2010 10:23 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

353 I think. At less boost than before though. Didn't loss too much torque, 376->353, 23, meh.

Wow, nice power band! Get that coupler tight, throw some springs in the head, upgrade the clutch and see what it can do!

Murlo26 02-27-2010 12:18 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

Grabbing a new set of plugs tomorrow just in case. Then some hairspray on the couplers, take the bumper off and hit the dyno sunday.

Springs will come later, because it looks like the power isn't dropping so revving it should help for sure.

get an electric impact after that coupler, or even a nice drill. that should do the trick

Murlo26 02-27-2010 09:25 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

My IC pipes are aluminum, they bend easy. I think one of the ones that was leaking was bent a bit. I don't want to bend my 300 dollar IC Pipe.

Nice power band, clutch should be hating life in a little bit I'm sure. haha

A $300 IC pipe? god damn

I'm with goodhart electric impact ftw!!

That seems like insane power you are making, I don't know much about the FP stuff, but what size is this turbo?

I checked their site and it looks like you are making way better power than they did.
Congrats thats nice power and the powerband looks awesome.

The Reds on E85 do about 480 on a Dynojet fully modded. I think Dave would like to see 500 but it might be a stretch.

The wheels are the same as the Red for the 8/9. Rated for 57lb/min but everyone assumes it is a bit less based on real-world output.

Given how Shane's dyno reads, Dave's numbers are looking good. There should be more in there.

Its an alumium pipe, pre bent kit ftw? A little bit DIY? local welder/shop?

You ballers are out of control.

Thanks for the info on the turbo, 410@27psi sounds damn good compared to those other charts and he can still do another 10+psi.

Good luck I hope you break 460-470 that is nuts.

haha. It lists at $340 on the website so Dave must have gotten a discount.

^not much better:(

The upper was like 300 and lower 330...i know its way too much, but i trust ams' stuff and i had one piece already, didn't want to mix and match.

The most I will run the red to is probably 33psi. The key is going to try getting the turbo to hold more boost up top. Mine is falling off a little more than expected. I don't think we had the wgdc's turned all the way up yet though. Plus with the leak who knows.

Let's try this again...easier in a heated garage, took like 10 mins this time.

Yup! I think I will do this every time I go to Shane from now on, just in case.

He said all the honda guys just take them off in the parking lot because theirs are so easy to remove, lol.

Wow I guess if my IC pipes were that much I would either have custom ones made by some shop like primo or DB or Ebay that shit lol

Yeah, but how is Ryan Gates going to remain sponsored that way?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

I really doubt you could get custom Aluminum IC pipes for 300. That would mean they would have less than 3 hours shop time to get it completely done, doubt it.

I would think you could get it done for less than $630 for the two.

The pair from Ultimate Racing is $370, which is what I bought. It isn't quite as solidly constructed (they don't bother with brackets, it doesn't fit perfectly, etc). AMS is on the premium side of the aftermarket and if that's what you want then it is worth it, imo.

Murlo26 02-28-2010 10:54 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

I am the type of person that gets truly upset if i find something better than what I bought (parts, tv's furniture, anything, lol) for not much more money. I always figure you get what you pay for, and usually it is true.

This is why I bought the AMS, so I wouldn't regret what I bought later and have to rebuy pieces.

Round 2: strapping it down now. Lomker is here distracting Shane with shiny parts:)
