^ Right, as i said far from controlled, just posting the data I have.

There are also other tests out there from other folks with very similar results moving from the eBay core to the Treadstone core.

Re: Project Lex

Just some small updates.

- Still moving forward with remote tunes. Vlad said the tune (AFR, Timing, Boost Solenoid type stuff) is looking very solid now. Just some very minor tweaks, but it's pretty solid at this point. So we're starting to look more at some of the "other/extra" features.

- So the two AEM 12pos switches I wired in for Boost and Trac control. We verified I wired them in correctly and AEM is seeing them correctly. So we've activated the boost switch. It starts out at the lowest boost setting (17psi which is roughly WG level). Then increments roughly ~2psi in each position up to I think 29psi is the current highest setting.

- We also verified the front ABS sensor is coming in clean. The rear one isn't for some reason so I need to look into that. I didn't think there was a polarity on these sensors, but I might flip the wires to see if by any chance polarity does matter. Without both working, we can't implement the traction control yet. But with the front one working what we can do is use that for a sort of boost by speed setup. In 1st gear I hook with just a very tiny amount of chirp/spin at the lowest boost setting. So we'll probably just stick with that setting through 1st gear speeds. 2nd gear it hooks decent at the 25psi setting, I have to do some more testing at 28psi, but 2nd gear speeds will probably end up somewhere around 25psi. Then no limit on 3rd gear speeds and above. And really with that in place, it makes the whole traction control piece just a little less important to me since this is sort of already helping me keep traction in check a little bit.

- I pre-ordered up the Grannas 8.8 rear diff kit. I'm going with the 1000hp axle option that retains the stock hubs. I purchased a diff from the local junkyard for $128 that I'll be getting built with a custom gear ratio and LSD. And hoping Grannas can simply make me a diff adapter that will allow me to just keep my current driveshaft. So I'll have my current 3.26 diff with Torsen LSD & Axles up for sale at some point here.

- I remade the cold side IC pipe. It was really cobbled together and was the source of a boost leak. It's been redone and is much better. Fixing these leaks has really made the car feel more responsive, but that could all just be in my head too lol.

That's about it for updates at the moment. I'm getting anxious to setup a dyno appt here soon as well to see where I'm actually at. But here's a screen shot from a 3rd gear log I took yesterday to give some sort of idea of where I'm at right now.

Had the day off, made a couple quick videos showing where the car is at today. Walk around video and a drive around video. Drive around video was at 23psi. I usually keep it at around that or 21psi for normal driving around, and only turn it up if need be.

Hopefully have some more footage for you next week as I hit the dyno on Monday to see how she does! All I'm hoping for is a number that starts with a 6 :)

Wife lost our normal digital camera that I always use. So I used my Contour 2+ Action Cam. It's got a big piece of solid foam in front of the mic for wind noise, but muffles sound. I also had it turned down a bit. I just did a mod to it tonight so it should be louder and more clear from now on (basically ditched solid foam for a more airy kinda foam).

But I can hear it on my computer, just turn up your volume.

Re: Project Lex

Dyno'd today. Rented the Dynojet at DBPerformance. Danny was nice enough to run the dyno and the car. Vlad was remotely connected to the Infinity and did all the tuning.

We started off at Wastegate boost (~20psi) and made ~590hp. Over the course of about 2hrs we were all in on this little 61mm (~29-30psi tapering off by redline of 7500). Ignition was starting to break up once we went all in. I brought a spare set of plugs which Danny was nice enough to gap to .020 for me. That took care of the issue and the car was able to make a few clean pulls at max boost.

Ended up at 709HP / 665TQ. Extremely happy with those results as my goal has always been somewhere in the 600's. Here's a couple photos and some videos. Sorry about the sound, they have huge exhaust fans in there which make a lot of backround noise.

Bit thanks to everyone who has helped me with this. I'd try to list all your names but it's impossible to remember everyone. But you all know who you are, thanks a million for all of the help!!! I'm super stoked!

Re: Project Lex

Very awesome. So 700 on kill mode? Pretty sweet you made all that power on stock motor. Congrats. Wish I had the balls to push the limits of my car.

Halon 07-17-2017 09:49 PM

Re: Project Lex

Yeah 700 with my boost switch turned all the way up. But I like to cruise around town with it down at like 21psi because no need to push it hard unless I have to, like if Peter rolls up in his Vette next to me lol. Seeing how the car did today, even 21psi should be right around 600hp so plenty of fun to be had there and plenty to gap 99% of what's out there usually anyway.

Yeah the car goes straight. So today we also added in Boost by Gear. So in 1st gear now the car will be on WG boost no matter what, then every gear after that it'll just be whatever I set it to on the switch. I'd really like to try and make a pass this year as I'm pretty sure it has 10's in it now even with my shitty driving, and the Boost by Gear I think will help me getting out of the hole in 1st gear which is what I struggled with in the past on this car.

93gtpeater 07-17-2017 11:19 PM

Re: Project Lex

It should run 10s pretty easy with that power and boost by gear. Plus those big meats in the back...... proving grounds in the fall?

Halon 07-17-2017 11:40 PM

Re: Project Lex

That's the plan. It's all gunna come down to if I can figure out how to launch it. Best 60' I've done yet was a terrible 2.1 or something I think lol. All I need is maybe a 1.9 and I should be in the 10's I think.

Re: Project Lex

Awesome numbers! I gotta ask as I'm a bit slow, why is the graph so choppy up top?

Be fun to see that thing make some passes, hopefully I can make it to proving grounds and see it in action!

Re: Project Lex

Im guessing because no correction and no smoothing? This was on E85 right? So solid! Now you need to find a different car to put that built motor/turbo into and just rock this one as is. :)

Halon 07-18-2017 02:16 PM

Re: Project Lex

It's choppy because smoothing is set to 0. So my understanding is it's basically the raw signal. For whatever reason that is what Vlad prefers. I could add smoothing to make it smoother, which I believe is what most people do. Doesn't really make a difference to me though.

Halon 07-18-2017 02:17 PM

Re: Project Lex

Peter, I've had the exact same thoughts lol.

Speedfreak 07-18-2017 03:21 PM

Re: Project Lex

I'd agree with leave the car as is!

And if I were remote tuning, I'd probably want zero smoothing as well. It's one more data point to consult.

Halon 07-18-2017 03:38 PM

Re: Project Lex

I completely hear u guys. But for sure some things need to change. The rear diff for example is on borrowed time at this point I feel. Also at this torque level at this rpm, my rods are 'safe-ish' but this motor has almost 170k on it so nothing is guaranteed. He purposely said he doesn't want torque to go any higher or any sooner at this point for the sake of my rods.

But I totally get it. The thought has even crossed my mind that if I want a new project, this is pretty much the best time to sell as after I throw the new entire setup on, that money would never be recouped.

Yea it is pushing the stock boundarys, especially with that mileage, thats awesome haha. Would be a good time to sell, but then what do you do next, tough decisions!

I'd I sold it, whatever I got next would need to accept the 2jz I'm having built haha. I think the NA 2jzge motors and me are a good fit. Cheap, abundant, and can make gobs of powaz. And they sound sexy as hell.

I'd love a jz swapped FD. Or a big power gs300. Or a supra of course haha. There's a JZ swapped c3 vette that's kinda badass too!

Re: Project Lex

No huge updates, but I made a Start-up / Idle video just to show how the car starts and idles with the current setup.

Note that I already had the car semi-warmed up. I have a complete lack of any sort of idle control devices (FIAV, IACV, etc). Literally just a TB with an idle adjustment screw, that's it. So when starting from a complete cold start, the car still starts fine but I hold the throttle at about 1500rpm & count to about 15 just to help it warm up a little. Then I let off and it idles just like this. Very happy with how it starts and idles, especially with the lack of idle control devices. I think a lot of that has to do obviouslly with Vlad's tuning and the AEM Infinity, but also these FID 1600 injectors do a great job as well. Also these cams are fairly mild (268 w/ 9mm max lift) and don't seem to add a significant amount of lope, help keeping idle fairly smooth as well.

2JZ BRZ! I like the watch the B is for Build youtube channel, but I'm not really interested in JDM stuff anymore, and especially not interested in anything to do with drifting. But his latest build of the BRZ would be really cool as more of a street/strip/Mexico car. It's a nice little platform with a crappy stock motor.

93gtpeater 07-26-2017 10:49 AM

Re: Project Lex

You can pick up brz for a decent price now days. 2jz swap that with some 4 link mini tub action.

Halon 07-26-2017 11:16 AM

Re: Project Lex

I don't want a BRZ, but thanks :) Lots of other things I'd have other than that.

Might as well stick with this car. I've put so much time/effort into little things on this car, like rebuilding & powdercoating the rear subframe with all new OEM fasteners, the expensive things that go unnoticed like the new control arms everywhere, the new expensive door hinges, zero rust. It'd kinda suck to start over at this point. So I'm going to keep moving forward with my original plans with one potential change. I'm not sure if I want to run my new BW SXE turbo. I should have waited to buy that, was kinda an impulse thing. Something about telling people it's just a little 61mm and they think wtf you put that pea shooter on a 2jz for. Then seeing their reaction to the 700hp it's putting out. It's just funny because everyone puts on 66-67mm or bigger on these cars. People will buy an S366 with the goal of 500-600hp. So it's kinda fun to be able to show some of those guys they don't need these huge turbos just because that's what everyone on the internet says.

And at this power level, I feel like I'm in a really good spot. I get good 1st gear traction on this wheel/tire setup with boost by gear, and I can pretty much run max boost in all further gears. I'm still using a single disc clutch. My 'weak points' are already being addressed. Adding another 100hp with the larger turbo may not be as great as it seems if I need to drop $2k on an expensive clutch setup that doesn't drive as nice. Maybe my 3" exhaust starts to hold me back. Maybe my current tires don't hold well anymore and I have to get something even more ridiculous. I think this power level is a beautiful spot to be at right now.

So not sure about that yet, I have time to think about it. I really want to see what this does at the track, that might help me figure out what direction I go as well. If it traps really well, maybe I'll look into getting a set of drag wheels/tires, and see what a little 61mm can do with some time and practice. A low 10sec pig on a 61mm would also be fun to get some folks reactions.

Badass setup, looks like you are getting mega popular in the local SC scene.

Yea agree stick with the baby 61 and show people what it can do! Perfect street setup with the power and traction you have.

Ooorrr, get and efr61 and improve spool, airflow, and power and sell said SXE haha. Go baller! (Sorry don't recall the efr model, just meant same size for reference)

Got it tinted today at Auto Trimmers. All of my cars have been tinted by Tint Pro's, but I decided to try Auto Trimmers this time. They are like 2 miles from my work. Met the owner and he was extremely friendly. Showed me there shop and all the stuff they work on. Told me "thank you, I really appreciate you choosing to business with us" which I can't even remember the last time a shop owner has said those words to me. Much respect to him!

Goal with tint was to just make the car less of a fish bowl, not go dark to the point where I'll get hassled, and also enhanced heat rejection. So I went with the Carbon CXP45 (which is actually closer to 40% according to their site spec sheet). I really like how it turned out. Exactly what I was looking for, not too dark but functional. The sun was blaring into the drivers side window on the drive home, and I could tell the heat was much less intense then it used to be. The rear window has a bunch of bubbles which I don't particularly like but they said that's normal and to just let it bake in the sun as long as possible. And if in a month they are still there, to just come back and they will fix it. So I guess that's normal and sounds fine.

Cost $250 to do the whole car. I plan on getting a new windshield at some point and once that happens I plan to add either some really see thru tint to the windshield or an eyebrow / visor.

Highly recommend these foilks though. For me, the fact that the owner came and shook my hand and told me thank you for choosing them, that alone right there is why I'll probably choose them for any other future related work.

Re: Project Lex

I assume no quality issues with the tint? Tint pro's did my evo and it was just ok. They put on the felt liner deals because the evo x's are prone to scratching the tint and they did a terrible job on that part of it but the tint was decent. I want to get my new accord done soon.

It has some bubbles in the back window. But they said it's normal and if it doesn't go away the can redo it. I'd be amazed if they go away on their own tho, so we will see.

Hmm, I don't think that is normal but I guess we will see. No where for that air to go. I guess keep us posted. Tint pros seems like a good option, but I am all for dealing with people that seem to actually want my business too.
