Yeah I lnow it takes some time. But these bubbles are like an inch or so long. Anyway I know if they don't go away they will fix it. And 100% agree on doing business with people that show you appreciation

Car looks great! Tint can really make a difference.

Bubbles are normal, the water and air will evaporate. If they are still there after a few days then let them know.

Looks so much better with tintz!

Token Anti-Lag Test video :)

Got the clutch switch wired up over the weekend, so that meant we could now turn on 2-step, antilag, and NLTS.

I didn't know that's what you drove. What's all done to it? I plan on swinging down there on Thursday over lunch, maybe I can check it out!

It's a 2013 FR-S Base with an unequal length header, e85/tune, wheels, tires, pads, fluids, coilovers, aligned proper with adjustable arms and that's about it. Rather stock really. But heaps better than a truly stock car in both sound, feel, handling capacity, and torque. I still get 28.5mpg average on corn, with 205whp and only weigh 2700lb. Now with regard to more power there are literally about 20 different FI kits out there if you want for cheap to make up to around 400whp stock block. That said I'm waiting to put a 2UR engine in it eventually but for now it's a killer daily that has proven extremely reliable after hours and hours of track use and almost 20k miles a year.

Looking forward to you stopping by! It's not the be all end all car in my mind, but it used to be a car I absolutely hated until I drove one. On paper or picture they might not do much for you, but ownership has proven different for me anyway.

Your SC looks great btw! I saw a red one driving around with the plate "92SC300" and it was MINT. I assume you probably know the owner.

Halon 08-01-2017 10:52 AM

Re: Project Lex

Hmm I actually don't think I know that SC. I'm an admin of the Midwest SC group and I don't recognize the plates. I'll have to ask around.

Damn that 2UR motor sounds sweet. Never really heard about it but googled it. Would be very cool! Dare I ask why not go the JZ route as they are fairly cheap and abundant?

Yeah see ya Thursday then. Forecast shows storms so I won't be in the fun car unfortunately.

Haha I imagine your car in the rain is an animal. I would love to, especially with the 1JZ non VVTI being a very common engine used by the guys in back shop who drift well. The main issue being weight really. As well as using a good trans. I will be building my transmission with all carbon synchros with Jacks here this fall, to help raise the power limit ceiling and also treat myself on the daily aggressive driving and road course. I can't remember the super strong inline aluminum 4 cylinder Toyota engine they had a special name for that was factory turbo and came in some car we didn't get, basically a unicorn engine but some guy swapped his FRS with one of those and it was a glorious way to blow 20k I suppose lol.

Halon 08-01-2017 05:42 PM

Re: Project Lex

1JZ VVTi I think would be a really cool swap. VVTi over just that last maybe 2 years has really started to catch on. And the 1JZGTE's can be had for much better pricepoint than the 2JZGTE's, so very cool swap! I personally love the 2JZGE's because nobody wants them so they are so damn cheap.

Transmissions, yeah I hear ya. People ask me all the time about how cheap these are to build. They are pretty easy to make power on but there are 2-3 somewhat high dollar items that you just can't avoid. 1) Transmission, 2) Standalone (no stock ECU solutions like with Mitsus), and 3) Differential.

Dropped off mine and another local's 8.8's to get rebuilt. They will be completely rebuilt with all new bearings/seals/gear-set from Ford Performance. The LSD we chose were from Wavetrac (supposed to be best of the best w/ legit lifetime warranty), which we got from Dogwhistle on here, thank again for hooking us up and letting me take your go-cart for a quick spin :D . Should be done in a week or two, then basically just waiting on Grannas Racing to send the swap kit!

Got the diff back today. All buttoned up with the new guts! Also my old helmet (Snell M2005) apparently expired this year per NHRA regulations. So with Proving Grounds coming up, I grabbed myself a new Snell M2015 helmet so I should be ready to rock!

Waiting on the kit from Grannas Racing at this point. Should be here soon so I'm going to start removing the current rear end and so I'm ready to throw the new setup in as soon as it gets here!

Got the front bumper with new lip re-painted. Same guy who painted the car a couple years back, does great work for a great price!

Looks amazing! Mind if I ask how much the bumper and lip cost to paint? Thinking I might do a repaint on my front end as well.

Kracka 08-30-2017 08:15 AM

Re: Project Lex

I like the lip, looks good!

On another note, are there some center caps you could put on the wheels?

Halon 08-30-2017 08:21 AM

Re: Project Lex

I have the center caps. However the place that did the coating lost the metal clip for one of them. So I cant put them back on unless I want to run only 3 lol. I've given up on them getting me a replacement so I just need to order one myself.

Re: Project Lex

ABS or PLA? A little acetone on a rag, then rubbed across the front will really smooth out the surface and remove those lines from the printer.

Pretty cool that you are making your own parts, what CAD program do you use? I need to draw up some new wing supports for my car.

Halon 09-01-2017 11:49 PM

Re: Project Lex

I use Solidworks to draw the parts up. I was thinking of getting some kinda satin black vinyl wrap/sticker kinda material to put over the top. Kinda like how people get the CF vinyl to put on their interior trim, just something like that but satin black to sort of match the other black pieces, seems like it would look good assuming it sticks to this.

It's ABS.

Slow on updates. My best time of the weekend was 11.1 @ 131mph. That was with a 1.9 60ft. I was spoiled with AWD in the past, so taking me a bit of time to learn how to get this thing out of the hole. But had fun and I'm happy with that for being my first passes in 2yrs, and first ever passes on this new setup.

What seemed to help me was doing a 2nd gear burn-out for ~5sec. Tires were at 14-15psi. I think I need to stay on the anti-lag a little longer, or perhaps raise my launch RPM and that might help me get a better 60'.

The whole family came up too which was really fun. The excitement on my boys faces was priceless. We stayed off site a couple miles away at a private site with a lakeside cabin. I think I will definitely be doing that again in the future!

Overall was a fun weekend. Here's a couple photos as well as a short video of my best pass.

Little video showing my best pass from this weekend. Could have been the worst pass in history, but the excitment on our little boys faces would have still made it all a complete success.

11.10 @ 131mph (1.9 60ft needs some work)

Super cool about having the entire family there, and wise choice staying off-site!

Re: Project Lex

You should go to rockfalls before winter. Get some more runs in and try to dial in your launching. Hope you can make some more passes before winter and get that beast into the 10.50s

Re: Project Lex

Car looked great up there man! Was really fun to watch and listen to. The traction looks tough honestly. Made me sad I didn't have my car up there, but staying in the condo, allowed me to drool over every pass lol. Offsite is very peaceful and glad they all got to enjoy the event!

OH! PS don't forget to the big minigolf Pirate's course next door, they would have a blast.

Halon 09-11-2017 11:15 PM

Re: Project Lex

Damn didn't even see ya there. Cool you got to see me run, how'd it look going down the track? Sounded like a gun shot everytime I shifted lol!

I gotta find the video, but I have an in car video of my first pass of the trip on Friday. It was next to Nate's pesky little black civic that completely left me in the dust :) Can't believe I lined up next to him on my first pass haha, he made me look sooooo slow! But if you read this Nate, thanks again for all your pointers throughout the weekend, and good chatting with ya! Cute kids too!!

Speedfreak 09-11-2017 11:24 PM

Re: Project Lex

Sounds like a fun time! Maybe next year I'll bring the family also. Would make the chances of going higher.

2wd traction is all about seat time and trial and error. There are some tricks as well to try.

Halon 09-11-2017 11:53 PM

Re: Project Lex

A set of real drag tires would make a huge difference. But the class I was running in, I can't run slicks. If I can figure out how to hook on drag radials, pretty sure I would have been very competitive in my class. Well, that is until they kick me out for running too fast lol. I did get spoken too after that pass by tech.

URV8SUX 09-12-2017 01:35 PM

Re: Project Lex

Yes thanks, it was nice to meet you in person. A few small changes you will be getting kicked out for going 135mph!!!!!

A//// Guy 09-12-2017 01:37 PM

Re: Project Lex

Good stuff!! Offsite on lake cabin action is definitely the way to stay up there! No need for that BIR nonsense.

93gtpeater 09-12-2017 02:05 PM

Re: Project Lex

Last year at pg it was super calm at night. I remember the past 2 years it was crazy at night with people riding pit bikes and other toys around. But last fall it was quiet and calm at night. No crazy stuff which was nice for some of to sleep.

At 135 you need to have some safety stuff and a license I believe. Since at 135 mph your suppose to be able to run a 9.99.

Yea the pops were funny, but that said, the chassis looks calm and controlled actually. That civic and a few others were roasting several awd cars even.
