Titan crank pulley showed up today.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1359683741 I spent some time cleaning the deck surface of the block best I could. Once I was done I threw in the MAP Ultimate Duty head studs, thanks again guys :) That's pretty much it for today, kind of a lame update I know, slowly but surely. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1359683741 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1359683741 |

Titan pulley on. Pretty much just waiting on the head now to move forward.

Still waiting on the head :( Maybe next week.
Came home to a bunch of stuff though, kind of felt like xmas! - LSD for the rear diff - SC300 flexplate (need it for the trans swap) - 350z transmission mount (got it to make a custom trans mount with) - New flywheel friction disc (thanks MAPerformance) to put on the used JWT flywheel I bought |
Re: Project Lex
I'm sure the wifey will be very happy about all that stuff on your guys's new carpet. :D

Well I had to pull the Titan pulley back off because my dumbass didn't think about the fact that I have to get the timing belt stuff all buttoned up before doing that.
So anyway, Titan pulley is back off. I replaced the t-belt hydraulic tensioner, as well as the idler pulley. Head shop called me yesterday and since the cams had .040" ground off, that's too much to correct for in shims alone. So they had to order some lash pads (no idea what these are) to take up that extra spacing. So hopefully head will be back next week. Since I've never done a t-belt on one of these before, I made this little sketch that I think is correct based on everything I've found. Putting it here for me to reference later. |
Re: Project Lex
Looking good! If you want I can print out the service info from my work for you

Re: Project Lex
One thing i ran into is that it was easier to put the head on if you just put a few studs in and the rest in once the head is on the block. Yours may slide right on though. Did you use arp lube with the studs in the block or no and is there a tq or just finger tight? I cant remember.

Might take your advice Kerry. And yes I put a very light coat of ARP lube on the threads going into the block, just so they aren't going in bone dry. Most the lube ends up on the top threads.
So today I decided I'm sick of waiting for my head and going to move forward. Using some old headstuds (thanks for the idea Momin), I put the motor back up on the hoist. Took the flywheel off. Bolted up the adapter plate. Started to put the flexplate on. Shot Collins (adapter maker) an email about how exactly this flywheel adapter is supposed to go on. Calling it a night, will get back to it tomorrow and over the weekend! Adapter on and flex plate on with bolts finger tight: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1360896875 3 sets of hardware that came with the flywheel adapter. Pretty sure he said to just use one set, which will replace the actual flexplate bolts. waiting for confirmation http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1360896875 |
Re: Project Lex
Haha so impatient. Looks good.

Way to make progress.

The long bolts in the pic ended up being too long, so I used the shorter ones. The ARP ones are for the flywheel.
Got it test fitted and up in the air. So far all the holes are lining up very nicely, and he's included about 95% of the hardware needed for this whole job which is excellent! I need to run to the hardware store to grab a few more bolts for the bottom portion, then will be dropping it into the engine bay to make sure everything fits. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361035093 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361035013 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361035093 |

Well holy shit, this thing took a bit more work than I thought to get it back in place. Was trickier than the stock trans. I got it about 75% of the way in and couldn't get it further, so decided to take a break. Went back out a few hours later and bam, amazing what a difference a break can make.
Anyhow, so here she sits. Basically it's just sitting on the 2 stock motor mounts, and I have a floor jack under the car holding up the tail end of the trans. Tomorrow the goal is to mark where the shifter is going to sit so I know where to cut a hole. Once that is done, take it all back out, cut the shifter hole, wait for the head to come back. Assemble and put it all back in. Might need to try and recruit some help for when I put it back in, would make life much easier! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361053872 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361053872 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361053872 |

Little update. Here's a pic showing how the trans looks from underneath.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361577840 I'm working on cutting a new hold in the tunnel for the shifter. Also got the head back. Here's where it sits as of right now. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361577840 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361577840 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361577840 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1361577840 |
