Wife and I took a test drive around our block. All 6 gears and Reverse work. Drove and shifted smooth as butter.

Car so far is still running OK. I think I have some sort of fuel issue though because everyday when I start it, the fuel pressure is different.

Anyhow with it mostly running, I figured I'd give this new buffer and goop a try. First time ever attempting to do this on my own, and figured this is a good test subject since I'm pretty sure it needs new paint, so if I do any damage no harm no foul.

So far I've done: NoRinse wash, clay bar, NoRinse wash, M105 w/ Orange pad, water/isopro wipe down. Tomorrow will be M205, water/isopro wipe, then some Zaino Z5. Car already looks way better, but still not as good as I'd hope. Pretty sure new paint is the only end all cure.

Nice, I need to get some of those lights.

Did you do a dawn wash at the start?

Halon 07-15-2013 10:43 PM

Re: Project Lex

No dawn wash. Dan told me my order was good so far. I started with a NoRinse wash. Then used NoRinse for claybar lube, followed by NoRinse wash. Then M105. Then water/isopropyl wash (which could be substituted for dawn wash).

Did you get your partial RPM sync issues figured out?

Re: Project Lex

I didn't get it 100% fixed, however I redid some of my grounding to be setup more like this:

http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/grounding.html

That seemed to help a bit. So I think what I'm going to do is add some better grounding to the car in general. I bought a 25' spool of 4awg wire from Fleet Farm so I'll just be creating some new ground, replacing the old stock cracked stuff. Hopefully that will help more.

So I completed my first ever full on exterior detail I've ever done. I'm pretty much a perfect example of an exterior detailing newb. And I seriouslly mean newb, like wash my cars with dish soap, stack shit on top of my cars, never seen a claybar in my life. That all changed a month ago, thanks to Aaron's detail day with Randy and Dan of Northstar Detail. So I picked up some new stuff from then, and this week decided to give it a go. Here's basically what I did.

1) NoRinse wash with MF wash mitts, and dried with MF towel.
2) Zaino Clay Bar using NoRinse as lube.
3) NoRinse wash and dry again.
4) Using Griots buffer and Orange pad, applied Meguiars M105 to entire car.
5) Wiped off with MF towel.
6) Spray/wipe car down with 50/50 water and isopropyl alchol mix and MF towel.
7) Using Griots buffer and White pad, applied Meguiars M205 to entire car.
8) Wiped off with MF towel.
9) Spray/wipe car down with 50/50 water and isopropyl alchol mix and MF towel.
10) Applied light coat of Zaino Z5 sealer using MF applicator.
11) Wiped off with MF towel.
12) Final wipe down using Zaino Z6 detail spray and MF towel.

Here's some pics of the results. Pretty much the best looking job I've ever done. Don't think Teh Bean has ever looked this good since I've owned it. It took me about 3 days, 2hrs per day, so 6hrs total. I learned a lot doing it, so I think next time I could probably do a better job, and do it faster. Key take away, if my newb ass can do it, anyone can do it!

Note: in the 2nd pic, that big white chip in the middle of my hood, that's not actually a chip, that's the mufukin reflection of the moon!!!
