Having a huge turbo is all cool, but when you go through multiple clutches that are $1k+ a peice, that just wouldnt work with me... Seriously I dont enjoy driving a beater around everywhere. I got sick of having my car on jack stands and love being in the driver seat more that 2 weeks out of the year. Someday maybe youll understand, Id love to throw a huge as turbo on my car and make 600hp- I know it can be done on an M... I just dont need that, plus that would defeat the purpose of what the car was designed for -handling. I could use another 100hp from a nice S/C though. But I dont have that kinda of money to throw at it, I like to put money into other things as well. BTW it has nothing to do with being NA. |
Re: Anna made me do it!
Listen, I didn't even read past your first line, but my car is down because of the clutch, not me. You don't know shit about it, my car has been very reliable except Tilton's clutch.
|
Re: Anna made me do it!
Alright ladies, chill the fuck down.
|
Re: Anna made me do it!
You should try reading more then, I know its down because of "a" clutch.

Re: Anna made me do it!
Nobody is talking shit about you or your car Cher, merely expressing opinions.

Chris, mod the fuck out of that Evo. Join the club. |
Re: Anna made me do it!
Im not a big fan of huge turbos on my daily driver. But I dont think big turbos "ruin" a car or destroy reliability, and I'm not going to tell someone else what to do with their car. If everyone was ultra conservative with modding this hobby wouldnt be as much fun. Scheides obviously knows what he's getting into based on his 2g.

Re: Anna made me do it!
And, who the fuck said a big turbo isn't streetable? I'm sorry you shift too soon. I find it just fine, and my turbo isn't even big! riding around with nate in his civic, cher's old white car, or the evo..Stock really does suck. It spools super fast, then just goes blah..power falls off, and it doesnt feel like it's pulling anymore. I like the ability to keep pulling and pulling. Tune it correctly, don't drive like a dick all the time, and boost/beat the piss out of it constantly, and you'll be just as reliable as any other car. All cars break, modded or not. So, why not go for broke, live a little, and enjoy the car for more then what it came with? Who wants to stay stock, and generic?

Re: Anna made me do it!
LAG=POWER nuff said.
Honestly buying a sports car, modding it, and not expecting it to break is fairly retarded. |
Re: Anna made me do it!
Evos are neat.

Re: Anna made me do it!
Honestly, the big turbo thing has gone around and around like a ffing record. Some cannot stand a big turbo (or do not want one) and some insist that there can't be one big enough (well, sorta). Let me tell you a story about AJ (DSMStyle). The other weekend when we were over at their place I let him take my 2G for a spin (since his nickname is fucking DSMStyle and he doesn't have a DSM, I figured I'd help push the issue a bit! :) ). He was insistant on wanting a smaller turbo on the car, wouldn't shut up about it. After the drive and a few mind blowing (or skirt lifting?) runs through some twisties, he was absolutly certain that the car was awesome as-is.
What it comes down to is trade-offs. More lag = more power. I LOVE a 16g'd car (dsm or evo). The car is sporty and fun! It makes mere mortals into rally drivers, makes city-scapes a playground of fun loopdy-loops and back roads. Then come the big turbos. Whether it's a simple 20g or a 600++ hp turbo, there will be more 'lag', and there will be more power. I was really wondering really how drivable a gt35r'd car would be in every day driving (I drive 50+ miles per day now). I have to say, I absolutly love it. Yes, it is a comprimise. But the dynamics of that big turbo are such that it is VERY streetable. The car has decent torque down low, as it makes 5-10 psi between 3000-4000rpms, but up top it *really* kicks ass. Now, a note on the term 'lag.' Let's talk about this in another thread, but know that I would (and hopefully will) gladly strap on a gt35r onto my evo! This car ROCKS stock, so I really think it can only get better with modification. Honestly though, the car is so solid and well balanced (especially after a simple MBC @ 19psi-ish), that I feel as though I could happily invest my money elsewhere and drive it as it is for a long time. |
Re: Anna made me do it!
I started a new thread:
http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?p=153458 Concerning the evo: I took the evo back to my home town for the holiday weekend. The streets are a bit wet, and I took some highschool friends for a spin around town. With 4 people in the car, everyone 'WOOHOO'ing, we were 4-wheel drifting up a storm! These guys drive 1.8t vw's (passat & golf) and the other a mazdaspeed protege...they all agree that the evo is hands down awesome, even if it is stock. |

Re: Anna made me do it!
And the modding begins:D What BOV is that?
|
Re: Anna made me do it!
Either a Tial or some weird name but shinny at that. And start modding it ya crazy bastard...
|
Re: Anna made me do it!
Lookin' good man! Is that a high-flow cat or a test-pipe in diguise? Hopefully that goofy band-clamp works for you, when I tried one it leaked like a 3-cent hooker no matter now tightly it was wrenched down.
I'm guessing the BOV is either a GReddy Type-RS or a FORGE. |
Re: Anna made me do it!
It's a Forge DV/BOV. I really wanted to run a Tial again, but I don't have anything to run a vent-to-atmosphere setup yet, and I've heard lots of great things about the Forge's so I thought I'd give them a go.

Re: Anna made me do it!
Yes, that is a high-flow cat. I wanted to see how well it worked being 'street legal' :)

Re: Anna made me do it!
Looks like a Works exhaust system?
