Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I am very impressed with the quality and fitment of this bar. When installing, it was apparent that the stock chassis has already gotten tweaked a bit b/c some force was needed to get 2 of the 10 bolts in place; overall not bad though so I'm really happy I did this now instead of waiting. You can see in the pic below how weak and puny the stock tie-bars are in comparison. Since I no longer need to run spacers for the bars to clear my downpipe I don't think I'm losing a whole lot of ground clearance, I'd say a 1/2" at the absolute max, but I doubt its even that much. I haven't done much hard driving yet so I can't really give a review on it yet, but going into clover-leafs the car did feel more compliant and planted which is good. One thing though, the front stock tie-bar is 3-point but for some reason Carbing opted against using the center mounting point (on the brace that holds the front motor mount).

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Do you know what grade Stainless Steel it is? Maybe he just used cheap 409 stainless which is typically what OEM exhausts are made of.
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Cheap 409 is probably right...even eBay exhausts use polished 304.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I just got back from my first hard drive since installing it last night and all I can saw is, "Wow!" Whipping around clover-leafs the car just plants itself in the corner and holds the line the whole way through! No more need to make steering adjustments as the chassis flexes changing the alignment. Even at low speeds making hard cuts and quick transitions the car feels a lot more solid and eager. I'm definitely glad I got this and can't wait to feel it on the autocross course this summer!

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Wow what a comparison stock looks usless next to the new one
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I just got another alignment from Jeff the Alignment Guy and the car is feeling great! He used Andres' specs which are from Robispec so it should be a great setup for autocross.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Humm... Maybe I should have John make something like that for my car. Sounds like it made a good difference in the feel of the car.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I think if you do it right, you don't need brakes. ;)
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Installed RacingBrake ET500 pads, Technafit SS lines, and ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid today :D Tomorrow is tranny, transfer case, and rear differential fluids day :)
I'm doing everything this weekend so I'm ready for the first auto-x even next weekend! |
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Nice, I think I'm gonna need a ride in this thing on the dyno day if it's there. :D
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
It'll be there...probably not dynoing though.
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Redline MT-90/MTL in the transmission and Mitsu Diaqueen 90W in the xfer case and rear diff!
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Mitsu Dynoqueen 90W huh? Sounds awesome.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
After auto-x last weekend I was fairly disappointed in the pads, they felt very soft, mushy, and just didn't bite that well. Fast forward to last night, I removed the stock pad shims that I reused at the recommendation of Smikevo and wow what a difference! The pads bite nice and hard right at the top of the pedal! They were squealing while I was rebedding them to the rotors, but once I did a few hard stops they've been whisper quiet. Also, I'll add, that after almost two weeks of use and an auto-x event my wheels have very little dust on them. As of right now I'm very impressed and can't wait to autocross again this weekend; I'll report back afterwards!
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Its interesting that shims could make such a difference... isn't it just a really thin piece of metal?

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Ah, interesting. I can't imagine they'd even help that much to keep the brake fluid from boiling... how much insulating can a thin piece of steel really do?
Makes sense though, the pistons were probably hitting the pad at the edge of the shim and making weird things happen. |

I love buying new toys :D
Seat lowering brackets! These will lower both front seats about 1.5". |
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Low ridah!
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Haha does your helmet hit the ceiling? Or does this improve foot to gas pedal angle? lol
|
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I'd put $ on helmet+roof. I know I hit the roof of about any car I get in with a helmet on.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I think it lowers the center of gravity for his fat ass.

I suppose these work best for tall fuckers like yourself huh? lol
I don't think I'd want to sit any lower in that car if it was mine, but I can see where you would want these. |
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
I replaced the tube that goes from the UICP to the BOV with a nice black silicone 90* bend coupler yesterday and I got the Binary seat lowering brackets installed today! They really drop the seats and its a pretty dramatic change! I like it though since I now really feel like I am riding in and apart of the car. Zac (hellomynameis) helped me install them and he also really likes the feel. I'll have to do the fiancee test later...
*edit* Passed the fiancee test! Janelle likes them. |
Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...
Does she mind that you spell fiance wrong?
