135 would be a helluva trap!

135 would be sweet to see! Good luck with your efforts sir, love seeing 1g's locally that are well put together, seems like they are getting so rare here.

135 trap should put you in the 9s son. Well if the car can cut a a good 60 foot. Some days I miss my DSM but kinda hard to beat what I have now. Can't wait to see this thing next year at the track. Hopefully we can make it out more next year.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

The newer springs provided by the shift kit are suposed to raise main pressure and reducing pressure. Im sure it did but for me it didnt seem like much as I physicaly measured it. My fluid was showing signs of slipping clutches as well. Very well could be just from 4th gear but 145 psi from a stock presure of I believe is 128 is not a very big increase considering how much power you and I have over stock.

What I have is both main pressure springs and reducing valve spring adjustment as tight as possible. I also made my own shims using washers to add even more tension on the main pressure and reducing valve pressure springs. You put them in between the spring and valve. This will add more pressure to the valve, increasing the fluid pressure requirement for the valve to exhaust main pressure to the pan, and obviously this will increase main pressure. With more main pressure you have more clamping force on the clutches and will cause increase torque capacity, less lip and less heat.

Reducing pressure is only used when shifts occur. The tcm will trigger the solenoid and main pressure will reduce to reducing pressure (about 2 times less) to cause less harsh shifts. The tension that is on the reducing valve also has an overall affect on main pressure when not bieng used so thats why shimming the reducing valve tighter will cause high main pressure.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Thanks for that chad.

I missed these lasts posts somehow.

Goal is to start the year with a 130 trap.

I'm also hoping to start another project so to be honest, this will take a back seat until that is done.

Right now, to get the car to run decent with this setup I'd need:

Fab downpipe
Install turbo
Buy wally 450
New converter

That last 2 items are not needed for the car to run, and since I have the nitrous on hand a converter isn't 100% needed.

Didn't Vassil trap 143 once with the auto?

yeah, but not with a old 57mm, he did it with a newer, higher flowing 6266 and 2.4

Oh, I didn't know you meant on a 35R only.

My apologies, my post did not reflect that. I edited it to be more clear.
Finding info on old turbos is tough these days, that is why I posted that vid from 2011. That looks to be shamus or one of those crew on your dyno making that power, maybe you can shed some light?

Let me know what you get for a converter. I was thinking picking one up from sinister speed this winter. The stock coverter seems so loose up top.

I have an IPT restall that worked perfectly with my 5857, 3076, EF1. If you are on a 20G it would be perfect for you.

What video?

You could look at old SC61s also, it's the same compressor wheel.

9/10/15:

I need to make an intake pipe, redo lower ic pipe, make downpipe, upper ic pipe.
Then mount radiator along with a long list of other things.

Feels good to work on it again.

Looks good! Must be nice to have the skill to make all those parts instead of having to buy them!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, but I am going to give it a try.
Sadly this year will be another year of me having it thrown together, so as long as it works I'll be happy, then I'll work on making it pretty.

It's gonna be a tight squeeze for the radiator to get in there and I like puller fans over pusher fans, but I may have to compromise in this case.

No pic update.
I got the radiator fitment figured out, I just need to purchase a better fan setup and I'll be good.
I started trying to mock up piping to weld a new upper uicp, then was ready to head to bed and found a good stash of 2.5" u bends, and othe various pieces.

So hopefully next Friday I'll be welding a new upper pipe.

3/5/2015:
Picked up another scirocco radiator because I wanted the fan setup on it and the seller would not split it up.
But I love it, real fan setup ftw!
Flex-A-Lite dual 8" fans rated to 1600cfm, it will be the highest flowing fan setup that I could get for this radiator and the thinnest at 2.5" thick.
