Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I babied it home..I'm not ready to go out and take that chance..when something goes wrong on my car, I DO NOT beat on it in any way till I know what the issue is and it's fixed.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
ready for that 16g now? ;)
Sucks dude. Hope you get it figured out. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
check the spark plugs for oil, do a compression test, maybe find someone to lend you a turbo that is known good and fits. If it was my car, those are the tests I would perform, if I could get ahold of another turbo.,
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Keep it simple, your best bet, pull your turbo and manifold. Oil in the exhaust runners, engine, otherwise its the turbo.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Look on the bright side, the thread is now living up to the title!
Compression and leak down test is the first thing you should do. That will let you know if there is any serious damage to the engine. After that I would start looking at the turbo. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
For in/out shaft play, none is normal. Most turbo's you can't feel it. If it is anything near side to side shaft play, it's fucked.

The exhaust manifold is going to get pulled this week to verify it's not the turbo. I have my fingers crossed that it's the seals since those can be done without pulling the head and it's only $30 for a new set of valve seals. GL man! |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Well, I went and checked again, and i'm not feeling a ton of play on the turbo :( I dunno what it is anymore. I don't have a compressor for a leakdown tester, even though I got the leakdown tester in the garage. I'll do a compression check tomorrow when I get off work I guess, but arg.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
That sucks Swifty. Hopefully you can diagnose and fix it quickly and without having to spend too much more money.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Yes, that is the key there. Little to no money to fix.
Good luck, it was cool to read about awd burnouts. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Im with black rose, pull your mani at least and check for oil or burnt up oil up in the exhaust ports of the head. If its just really sooty but not oil soaked like it sounds like it should be chances are its not in the engine. For there to be actual oil in your exauhst system I would think you would of noticed a huge performance loss due to plug fouling for it to run thru the cylinders and then out your exausht in that way. Probably turbo seals.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Pulled plugs, all great condition. checked compression..all ok. Pulled the exh. manifold..runners and head looked dry. Pulled exh. off, saw oil sitting in exh. housing on turbo. ARG! This center section was brand fricken new! I run it fed from teh oil housing, no restrictor, as I was instructed. oil is 15w40. WTF! Now it looks like it overheated a bit, and now I gotta fork up a fricken grip to rebuild it? I'm selling this damn thing, and getting something else. FUUUUCK!

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
push the car off the cliff and get an evo? lol
sorry man, i hope things change for ya |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
And you want another PTE turbo WHY?
If the center section was brand new, warranty it. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I'm sending them an email right now. I only suggest the 6262 for the price. That's it. Ideally, I'd get the HTA3586r, but that's WAAY too much cashola. Friiiiiickk..

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Run an adjustable FPR on the oil feed line and have it return the excess into the pan. Then you can put a gauge after that and set it to 30psi max or something.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Just curious, but why are you running 15w40? That seems a little heavy to me.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I wanted a bit thicker oil for the car. I was just trying something different.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
It's not abnormal to be running 15-40 at these power levels. Plenty of others doing it, including myself. Not sure if on that turbo, if running the feed from the housing without a restrictor is a good idea though. No idea what PTE recommends. Mine has a restrictor because that's what my turbo's supplier recommended.
Sucks to hear about your turbo. Stories like these are why I will more then likely never run a PTE turbo again (although I hear their BB turbo's seem to last a little longer). Good luck getting it taken care of. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I was just thinking that since he's running heavier weight oil that it might have increased the pressure to the turbo. In this case, it could have been too much pressure. In my experience the thicker the oil, the higher the pressure.
