Nope :( The new clutch won't be broken-in in time. These Kevlar discs seem to be ultra sensitive to break-in so I'm not willing to risk it. Now if someone wants to let me borrow their Evo... I will be in attendance for at least spectating though and plan to come up with a few others who will most likely run.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I got my car back tonight with the new clutch and its feeling good so far. After about 10k on my previous clutch the TOB took a crap and destroyed the pressure plate in the process. MAP worked with Competition and got a replacement Stage 3 sent at no charge, and Comp even reimbursed MAP for the labor. Thanks to MAP for getting this taken care of and thank you to Competition for really standing behind their product and doing what it takes to make the customer happy. Competition has had numerous Evo TOB failures so they are now recomending the use of an OEM Mitsu TOB instead so hopefully this fixes the issue. So far after driving it for an evening it seems the OEM TOB is much quieter than the Comp TOB which is a good thing since the clutch no longer rattles on decel.

While I was away on my honeymoon I had Primo powdercoat my radiator brackets in gloss black and my hood damper brackets in gloss white so that adds a few small finishing details to my underhood appearance which makes me happy!

I saw those sitting at primo, they look nice. Post up some pictures when you get a chance

So did I. I have a Cusco strut-tower brace on back-order right now and was wondering if some of the other braces would be worthwhile. Sounds like a good project to add to my list for the Spring.

I'm assuming that they just bolt on using stock bolt locations, yes?

Kracka 09-29-2009 10:14 AM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

Yup, the chassis braces just attach to factory bolt holes.

I threw the RacingBrake ET500 pads back in and some black Centric front brake rotors today.

While Scheides was here two weekends ago we decided to go ahead and remove the evap charcoal canister system since we've been talking about attempting it for almost a year. Once removed I'm guessing it saves about 10 lbs. and the car runs just as good as it always has. This was the final emissions system left on my car :)

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

My SpoolinUp COP setup arrived today so I threw it on and went for a test drive a little bit ago. It uses used (~60k mile JDM take-offs) Toyota (made by Denso) coils. I kept my stock (46k miles) spark plugs in for now and plan to replace them tomorrow with some Denso IKH24 plugs. The car seems to run and drive very smooth, but I can't honestly say the COP made any noticeable difference like a lot of people on EvoM are claiming. One of the coil plugs also rubs on my o2 sensor plug which I'm not real thrilled about. It sure does look nice though :) Once I get the plugs replaced tomorrow I'll do a better job of routing and tucking the wires.

TITS!! I like that! Prius coils ftw..I can't believe I didn't try this since I threw out TONS of them due to warranty coverage on prius's with em..

Kracka 01-25-2010 06:35 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I believe these are actually the Celica coils, but I think Scheides kit has the Prius coils.

Did you register your car in Texas? If so, you had better keep that emissions stuff because they do emissions testing every year. Looks good though!

It still has MN plates on it, but there are ways of passing the emissions testing ;) The WRX is catless and we already got it inspected and registered.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

*update*
After some more driving around the car does seems to be accelerating from a stop and driving at low RPM (<2000) a bit smoother. Its tough to say if thats due to the COP or my 46k miles plug wires and boots being due for replacement. I'll change the spark plugs tomorrow as soon as the FedEx man arrives and report back then!

Nice they finally arrived.

Do they make these for a DSM, I likey the fiber

scheides 01-25-2010 10:37 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

These would be badarse on a DSM! I've had mine for about 2 weeks and for me too, the change was very subtle, but the car does seem quite a bit smoother in the very low revs. That, and I'm able to run .030 gap on my car @30psi w/o issue. :)

Halon 01-25-2010 10:48 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

nice, i struggle to run anything over .020

Kracka 01-25-2010 11:48 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

The plugs I bought come with the gap set to .032" so I'm going to give that a shot with my 26 psi. If that gives me trouble, which I doubt it will, I close it a bit to .030". KevinD, a tuner down here, was able to run an Evo on low boost (18 psi) with the gap set to .045" using this same COP.

scheides 01-26-2010 08:31 AM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I'm sure it'll be fine at .032 at 26psi. Plugs are a PITA to gap, mine might be a tish higher than .030, who knows. Don't forget that these are also said to improve gas mileage by a few MPG, keep an eye out for that.

Here are my stock plugs with 46k miles on them, overall I think they look very good considering their age!

Nice. They don't seem too bad. Prolly like that 93 better than 92 shit.

Can you check if they have something for a DSM please?

Kracka 01-26-2010 01:24 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

SpoolinUp is only making COP setups for the Evos right now. When I talk to him later today though I'll ask if he's ever considered making a DSM kit.

Jebus, I had to change plugs about every 500 miles in my talon. How the hell do you get that many miles out of them?

A good tune. :) My plugs have never not looked like that and my car has proven issues.

Time to buy an Evo I guess. ;)

Does the COP make each cylinder fire individually or is it still wasted spark?

Kracka 01-26-2010 01:47 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I could be wrong, but I believe it is still wasted spark and fires the same as the stock ignition. I'm sure Scheides will correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

They are iridium spark plugs and Mitsu has a recommended replacement interval of 60k miles.

You're right! The thing is the DSM uses an ignitor that then leads to the coils, so I'm not sure quite how it would all wire together, since the evo doesn't (I don't think?) have one of these. I think you'd just need the right plug and then the wiring would of course be a bit longer. I'm sure its very possible :)

Kracka 01-26-2010 02:04 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I just measured my stock plugs and they came out at (passenger to driver side) .025", .025", .023", .027" gap (factory spec is .020-.024" gap).

Halon 01-26-2010 03:39 PM

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

The iridium plugs are made to last longer than our DSM copper ones. Might have something to do with why they look cleaner. The iridium ones on my Envoy are rated for 100k mile intervals.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I tried running iridium plugs in my DSM just after I got it (they came with the car), and on a stock tune with just a small 16g (14psi), the electrode was almost completely burned away in under 3k miles. Went back to regular plugs and never had another problem.
