302 is almost equal to our motors for the cheapness. replace the pistons then boost away.

That's exactly the reason I decided on a 302. And yes, I plan on going with a manual trans, I just have to figure out a way to adapt the cable clutch to my pedal assembly (Stock 240 is hydraulic)

Are you going to keep the AC?
Power steering?
A/C has been removed since before I bought the car, and I'd like to figure out a way to keep the power steering, but if I can't mount the pump it's not really a huge loss.

After it is all done, you could then take it to car craft where it would have a little more respect

BTW, even though it is fun to build your own motor, don't over look the possibility of buying one that is already built and has been slightly used. 302 race engines are very plentiful and cheap. 8 built rods for 5.0L are cheaper then 4 rods for a 4g63. Also I would see if you could stay fuel injected so that it is a little more DD. not that carbs are bad but you will get better fuel economy, cold start, driveability with Fuel injection.
I've been keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a race engine since that would save me a lot of time and money. I'm planning on going with a carb initially just cuz they are so easy to deal with, and it will get the car back on the road faster. If I decide down the road that I want to boost it, it would be easy enough to find a fuel injection setup for it.

Whoah, big change! If it happens you will lose your jdm drift king rep! It'll be sweet either way.

I say go for it! Get one built for some boost and flip the manifolds to mount a single up front.

get a ford mod motor ;) 5.4 or a 4.6 lol. Don't know if it'll fit.

Re: Project S14 240sx

^ They won't. The heads are way too wide to fit between the strut towers.

And Scheides, there's nothing JDM about my car right now, other than the S15 diff, and the fact it was assembled in Japan. haha

I think it would drift even easier with more TQ at hand.

I agree. The back end should step out very easily with ~400wtq and no turbo lag.

you need to run caigs fiero when you get the 302 in :)

Re: Project S14 240sx

Is the fiero faster than the hemi?

Re: Project S14 240sx

need to finish getting it in tune, but then it should be same horse power as the 300 but half the weight.

Re: Project S14 240sx

So I tried fitting my snow tires/wheels today and ran into a problem... The barrel of the wheel hits the front calipers, so I need to get some 300zx rotors instead of the 350z rotors to make a little more clearance.

being a Mitsu forum, I find this to be somewhat useful info....

iirc, the 3000GT VR4 4 piston calipers are identical to the 300zx calipers except for the name on the outside (Mitsu instead of Nissan, both made by Nissin, iirc again)

i have a buddy with a 96 s14 with a 406 small block with a single gt30r, he was having issues tuning it and took of the turbo and still runs 11's...

The 300zx caliper is made by Sumitomo (cast right into it, just below the Nissan logo) and the reason the calipers don't clear the wheels is because I'm running 350Z Brembo rotors, so the caliper is spaced farther out than it would be if I had the 300xz rotors. There is a little ridge in the barrel of the 3/S wheels that hits the caliper, so the backspacing isn't the issue.
