I'd call that a success.

Thanks to FSUsucks1 from CL for the motivation to do this :)

Re: Project Lex

Purchased a set of Corbeau LG1's (black cloth) that should arrive in a couple weeks from MAP! I chose these because I was looking for a balance between Weight, Comfort, Cost, quality. Corbeau usually makes a seat that's more budget friendly than the other big names, while still maintaining quality standards. The LG1's are regarded as one of the most comfortable seats offered by Corbeau, this is still a Lexus after all not a real race care! And they weigh a fraction of the stockers. I could have gotten some cheapo ebay ones for a better price, but I think I'd be sacraficing quality and possibly comfort. I could have gotten some Sparco Milano's but that'd be coming at a big price. So I think this was the perfect choice for my goals.

This ended up happening a little sooner than I planned (planned to do this over the winter), but I have plans to go to the track in about a month and I would like to take advantage of the weight savings.

So, ditch both heavy ass front seats which weight about 75lbs each from what I've gathered. Replaced with these which are 26lbs each + maybe 10lbs for each bracket. Overall that's right around 78lbs shaved off the car in street form which I think is awesome. At the track I'll remove the passenger side so that'll actually be another 36lbs removed for a total of about 114lbs saved in track form. That's like removing a Tauni, I think I will definitely feel the difference!

I will try to weight the components I take out, and the new ones I'm putting in so I have more accurate numbers.

Trying to think of some other areas I could reduce the weight without sacraficing the quality/comfort of the car much. Things like a CF Hood, but for the price it doesn't seem like you actually save a ton of weight. $700 to save maybe 15lbs I'm guessing? Doesn't seem like I'd notice that reduction much, so not sure it's really a good use of money at this point.

Those look nice and comfy. How were they priced compared to a set of Evo seats?

Also, The gunmetal plastidip looks nice on the trim. I love how easy it is to just spray something like that up!

Love the wheels, but I might be partial to anthracite gray just a bit, although mine's a bit more permanent. :D

Lolz brown, cold day in hell I suppose.

I kind of gave up on evo seats as most of what I kept seeing were 8 seats in crappy condition. This way I'll know they're in good condition since they're new, probably about similar to some decent 8 seats price wise. And I think these are supposidely a bit lighter too. So I think this was a good choice for me.

Also rosey, that's black dip, not gunmetal. Camera kinda makes it look gunmetal but it is standard flat black dip.

Nice on the seat upgrade, do love a good race seat that's still comfy.
If you're looking for cheaper weight savings, a small lithium battery is a good place to save about 30lbs in the $200 range. Mine always worked well in the Lotus, thinking about doing the same on the Noble.

I already run a smaller lawn mower battery. I wonder what it weighs. Do you have a link to the one you're talking about?

Re: Project Lex

Ah, most of those mini batteries are in the 15lb range.
I was happy with my Shorai, http://shoraipower.com, many are in the 3-4lb range.

Re: Project Lex

Damn that's light, will have to check it out. How long do they last? In my Talon I had used a lawn mower battery, usually had to replace it every year. Decided to go to what I thought was a more legit batter setup with an Odyssey. That battery lasted me a year too and was way more expensive. So decided to just go lawn mower again on this car and get a new one every year for $25.

If these are that light though, and last at least a few seasons, I'll have to consider it, thanks!

I have a small Deka brand battery, you might find some info in my thread, but it was $52 shipped to my place and I've drained it and recharged it plenty just fine.
