Screw having fun I wanna win!

What kind of cars do you usually see in SI? Are many of them crazy modded with Rspec rubber and what not?

The majority of SI cars are your typical street-prepped daily-driver cars. There were a few Evo's in it last year which was fun. If a driver is good enough to handle a fully prepped car with R-compound rubber he's good enough to have already gotten kicked out of SI ;)

I'm trying to think who on this board has won SI; Matt D. and I both have, Spaz is working on it, Zac will probably try this season, and Ryan skipped SI and went straight to SM-T (will be running SM this year along with me). I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting. I don't remember if Andres or Brandon competed in SI or not.

If I get a car that can actually go around corners this year I might give it a try.

If you're interested in getting into or at least trying out the sport this is the best way to do it. Register soon because it fills up fast.

Registered! Almost forgot that it was opening this week.

I'm going to compete in SI because there is no way I can compete in the SM class where my car should be given it's mods.

Re: The Great Autocross Mega Thread!

To win SM your car needs to be prepped for it. Your car's better off than mine is.

I signed up for SM because everyone else was SI. I wanted to win it, if only once. Too bad they don't do classing at schools.

Why go to those schools when go karts teach you just as well?

Spaz, if you do that school, and then go do an autocross, let me know. Because I want to drive your car after you and see if I can best your time. :)

I've been karting all my life and the schools are still very worthwhile. I did the novice school last year and will be doing the intermediate school this year. Not to mention, the 2-day school is cheaper than a few hours at the go-kart track. You can practice all you like, but when you ride along with an instructor and/or an instructor rides along with you and critiques you its a real reality check.

more questions: My car currently has an aftermarket axleback, cross drilled rotors, and a front strut bar. Which of these, if not all, have to be removed for me to compete in stock class? I read the rules, and from what I understand the axleback is ok, the other two have to go. Is that right?

There was a lady who ran her Beetle last year and an elderly couple who ran their Prius.

From memory, you are correct, your axleback is fine but the rotors and strut bar have to go. I say leave your car how it is and compete in SI first; when/if you win that class then worry about prepping your car for a certain class.

Re: The Great Autocross Mega Thread!

Are they going to recommend that I compete in SI either way? Which class is less competitive, D stock or SI?

Kracka 02-27-2009 08:59 AM

Re: The Great Autocross Mega Thread!

SI is less competitive since it is only for novices. While you're in SI keep an eye on the potential classes you could run in so you can figure out which you'll be the most competitive in.

So, for a modded dsm... Basiclly start in SI then get bumped to SM after a single event win?

Pretty much. There are generally 30+ cars in SI so don't expect to show up and win your first time out. It took me two events and that was after the novice school and a test n tune day.

And the remaining 20% for a solid suspension setup, good tires, and a lil power.
