At Porkys last night Scheides asked to see my graphs, and I thought they were in my trunk. I didn't see them. I looked for them this morning, and sure enough, they were soaked in my trunk under a shirt... Thanks broken trunk weatherstrip.
Here are my wet graphs. HP/TQ and HP/BST |
Re: My Talon
You got drunk and pissed on your graphs :) Don't lie

Re: My Talon
Not making excuses. But from my experience, boost comes on earlier on the street because the motor is actually under more load. That could account for the 20psi by 4400rpms on the dyno vs. others STREET logged 4100-4200 threshold for that boost number. And also, can't remember your setup, but a ball and spring MBC which several others use can make a significant difference.
Still cant complain about +325ft-lbs of torque before 5000rpms with a bolton turbo at 26psi at that same rpm. Considering your uber conservative timing for your CR and e-85, it would be nice to see you push it a little farther before you sell it :p |
Re: My Talon
Looks a little laggy but that thing has got to tear your fuckin head off after 4k rpm!! Nice to see what a Holset can do since not many people run em.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up paying for the HX40? |
Re: My Talon
400 is no slouch on a DD w/o correctons on. That is a very quick car there.
My car was making 480-520awhp when it was running 127mph on 92 octane with 3800+lbs. |

I'd say it really isn't that laggy when you're driving around normally and cruising. When you want to go, it goes. |
Re: My Talon
Nice that is how mine is.

Re: My Talon
Makes me feel even better about running my twinscroll hx40s etup this year. I'll jsut wind out the h1c with the improved twinscroll setup and report the numbers. Then come back with the hx40. As of 2 days ago, it's just done 685whp on a dynojet with the .55 a/r bep housing and hks 272 cams. So I know the original holset housing will give me more than what I want.
. . .Oh, I forget which cams you have? . . .Nevermind, BC 272s from your tuners thread. . . 212-213 duration does so well with the sirius motors it seams. |
Re: My Talon
Not too shabby dood. 400whp ftw!
And freaking LOLerskates at posting up crumpled/wet dyno graphs! Nice work! |

I'm putting in a new ceramic 6 puck sprung clutch disk tonight after work, at work. I'll be getting my flywheel resurfaced in the AM and will hopefully be driving by afternoon sat. I called ACT and they said ideally, a .612" step height is best as that is stock. So I'm sure +/- .005" is alright. I'll have the machinist shoot for .610" I got a Mitsu fuel filter and oil filter, and throwing in some NGK 7's on sat. Gotta be ready for Rock Falls! |
Re: My Talon
Feed fitting came loose tonight.
Turbo seized. :( |
Re: My Talon
What are you serious? Aint that some bullshit. But atleast it happened here, and not in Wisonsin...
|
Re: My Talon
That sucks. Good luck getting a quick replacement!
|
Re: My Talon
That sucks! Good luck getting another one quickly

Re: My Talon
That sucks! At least you caught it before it shot all the oil everywhere and caused engine damage.
|
Re: My Talon
I randomly heard about this last night from a friend. Sucks dude. I was just at applebees with your friends paul, mike, and his gf, and paul was talking about how he was working on your car to get ready for rock falls.
|
Re: My Talon
Fuk dude that sucks :(. Time for that 16g? 20g? I've never had a fitting come loose like that; ghey in the pants.

Re: My Talon

Hmm, maybe time for a new turbo?
|
Re: My Talon
fuck! We all are screwed!
|
Re: My Talon
Ouch! I'd say that turbo is pretty much toast.
|
Re: My Talon
I've seen worse damage than that on Holsets and my brother was still able to rebuild them at the diesel shop he works at.
|
Re: My Talon
OMG!!!! I didnt think it was going to be that bad. Sorry to see that man! Any idea on what you are going to do now?
|
Re: My Talon
I thought these were supposed to be durable?
J/K, Sucks to hear man. What's your plans? |
Re: My Talon
I had the same thing happen to me, well the line was uber loose, but i noticed a new leak so i checked it.
ANother thing to check. |
Re: My Talon
Wanna take our turbos and throw them at each other..we can see which will be more durable then! flippin car shits.
|
Re: My Talon
Haha, well the feedline fitting that screws into the center section came loose. I'm sure because the turbo had very little oil flow and almost no pressure as I was making a pull everything got hot, the shaft seized/broke, and the turbine wheel went crazy. It also tore up the BEP housing I have...
So I will see about getting the turbo rebuilt, if it's possible. It that works, I'll try my best to clean up the turbine housing with a die grinder and hope it works half-assed. This isn't anything about the turbo being unreliable. I'd get a Holset again. I might look into a PTE as a cheaper alternative IF I cannot repair this turbo. |
Re: My Talon
SCM61 go for it!
|
Re: My Talon
I was kidding about the reliable thing. Best of luck with it dude!
|
Re: My Talon
Yeah I heard about your car this morning. That really sucks since you just got it up and going not too long ago. But what can ya do..
|
Re: My Talon
I cant believe this happend, its crazy I was actually at my house when you called. Alyssa came in and said some car was on fire at the gas station and then i get a call from you. At least it wasnt the motor, I guess we all are not having the best of luck with our cars.
|
Re: My Talon
weird man. sorry to hear.
|
Re: My Talon
OUCH!
You can get a wh1e to bolt into your hx40 turbine housing. It has a 58mm 8blade compressor. Or just a standard 8blade 58mm inducer hx40. You don't need that 7blade or 6blade 60mm wheel. Not remotely for your horsepower. 8blade hx40, 535whp on a dynapack and 139mph with 2760lb race weight: Click. You have another 100hp to go before you should wonder about having the 60mm wheel. That could save you some $$$. . . . Research holset fakes if you decide to get another holset. There's chinabay fake hx40s floating around. There's a thread on tuners about it. The word holset in the same font on the id plate that looks like a holset plate on the compressor cover and all. "xs power" pops up when you move the mouse over the pic. . .But You can spot the difference easily if you know what your'e lookign for. Holset is even pressing the issue with the authorities. Just a heads up if you're looking on ebay for a real holset. Here's the thread. Click. |
Re: My Talon
I dropped it off at a local diesel shop. I even called a few places, pretty much everyone said I'll need a new center cartridge, if they can even ID the current one. Should be about, oh, $600... :( Booo.
All I know is that this is a 6-blade comp, 12 blade turbine, I got it brand new as just a HX40 for a DSM. Apprently there should be some part numbers on the back side of the compressor wheel, and they will hopefully try and match up that wheel with a new center section. I'd like to keep the 69lb/min comp wheel if possible. I won't be a stock 2.0L forever ;) Wheelhop do you know any part numbers for my 6 blade hx40? Also, my turbine housing is a little messed up, guess I'll have to whip out the dremel! Oh, and BEP housing for the lose: The bolt holes not tapped all the way through, my hardened steel turbo bolts missing 1/3 of their threads and a pain to remove. |
Re: My Talon
Or I'll just buy a new one lol cause I'm an idiot. or some lame PTE lol. :p
|
Re: My Talon
Did you try East Central Diesel up in Cambridge? My brother works up there and they do pretty damn good work.
|

There are VERY few hx40s out there with the 6blade wheel from the factory. They usually come with the slightly faster spooling and slightly lower flowing 10blade hx40 turbine (will bolt right into any hx40 cut turbine housing). |

Re: My Talon
Ok. So I brought my turbo to diesel components, and I'm extremely happy I did.
After looking at the turbo, it wasn't lack of oil that caused the failure, but a turbine blade broke off and sent everything to shit. Diesel Components had a matching turbine blade in stock, and it was the same. They normally stock the CHRA I need but they were out and one should be in next week! I'm kinda pissed, kinda not, about the turbine blade. They said they have seen it happen before... |
Re: My Talon
I wonder how they determine that. Wouldn't a catastrophic failure of the Center Section destroy a turbine blade?
Glad to hear you're getting it worked out. Come to the track!! |
