Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
I just got off the phone with Jack from Jacks transmissions, I have a pretty good idea what i'm going to get but wanted mitsustyle input
Welded center diff for $50? orrr 4 spider for $399? I have heard many people complaining about how crappy it is to turn with a welded center diff, I refuse to stick with the 2-spider, and the 4-spider is $350 more than having jack weld mine up. HONEST opinions. Stock 1st gear with new synchro? orrr Evo 3 double synchro and evo 3 input shaft for $319 I wan't to rev my lime green spilner mobile to 8000k rpm, launch it like Apollo 11, all day long no problems.... and my goal is for 500whp (up a solid 100 from current) Which brings me to clutch disk, price isnt a big deal they are all within $20 6-puck sprung? (my choice unless u can convince me otherwise) 6-puck solid? Street disk? The order goes through tomorrow so w/b asap! |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
Unless this is a drag car, I would always recommend 4-spider. After that, I'd say just get a stock rebuild/refresh. That's all I ever ran. Stock rebuild (stage 1) with a 4-spider.
As for clutch, most single disc setups will drag above 8k RPM's which may affect your high RPM shifting. Not much you can do for that as far as I know. What clutch are you running, and whats your setup and goals? I really liked me ACT2900 PP / Clutchnet sprung 6puck bastardized setup. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
Agree with B-man, although I never really minded my welded diff. either.
I ran a TRE stg. 3/2.5 (they changed it since i bought mine), I absolutely loved it the best DSM trans I have driven, the higher RPM you revved it the smoother it was. I wouldn't set my heart on a 8k RPM limit, although if you are shooting for 500whp you might/should get there, however focus on where you make power. Clutch setup, I have read good things for people using a ACT PP with clutchnet disk, it seems to be the way for single disk setups. If you can go twin, i say go twin. I'd say stg. 1 w/4 spider and a twin disk. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
Only input I can offer is if you go with a single disc clutch, get an unsprung 6 puck. I've broken 3 clutches due to the springs busting....

Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
XTD, aren't those chinese knock offs?
I and many others have had excellent luck with ACT 6 puck sprung. The only clutch to run in my opinion until you start making over 700hp dynojet. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
I had the TRE stage 3 with the 4 spider and loved it. I never had a problem shifting with either my competition stage 4 clutch or my twin disc.
I really liked my 4 spider, and I only got that because of people telling me it was better for a street car. I also really liked the longer first gear for drag racing. I'd probably go with a sprung 6 puck if it will hold your power/tq goals. My comp clutch stage 4 I remember holding to a little above 500 @ db with some nitrous. Maybe that clutch is worth looking into as they were super cheap when I bought mine. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
Cammaxon, why not have DB Performance rebuild your tranny?
They can get your tranny rebuilt within two business days most times. I just had my 5 speed evo with bad syncros in 3rd and 5th and a worn out reverse get replaced and fully rebuilt for ~$800 in just a couple days! I also brought them a pretty rough shape 2g tranny that grenaded 4th gear and took out other stuff and they quoted me just under $1600 for pretty much new everything. |

Some interesting reading regarding XTD. Post 163 is a good one to jump ahead to. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
LOL heres a pic of Cams tranny, i had too!
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2..._2216337_n.jpg I use an xtd stage 3 pressure plate and 6 puck sprung disc. I bought it seeing a few dsm buddies have luck with them and a some of the honda crowd. its cheap and i wont mind replacing it if it breaks. I wont go out and brag about them but i rock it and it works for me, I did recomend to Cam though that he get a ACT sprung 6 puck with his pressure plate. Keep your head up cam. i would just wait a little while and shop around for someone selling a used built tranny with your $$$ goals. |
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
Just run it.

Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
THanks for all the input im still trying to figure every thing out. I kinda really wanna buy tony Kellars stage 4 tre but he wont get back to me

Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
but really, i've got $1500 maybe more if some one has a mint epic 2g awd tranny.
|
Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
go with something sprung for a clutch disk, I have an ACT unsprung 6 puc and a ACT HD pressure plate and I hate how harsh it is for street driving. As for shifting at 8k I rebuilt my tranny and shifts great at that rpm with a single disc. Either way have fun with it!

Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
with $1500, you mind as well jsut get it rebuilt by DB or shep, jacks or something. Halon knows what he's talking about. His car scooted down the track.

Re: Rebuilding my Trans, what to order?
You cant get shit for $1500 from them that's gonna hold power and considering shipping is $200.... that brings it up to 17.

http://teamrip.com/DSM_AWD_STAGE1_REBUILD_SERVICE.html http://www.jackstransmissions.com/co...-trans-rebuild basic rebuilds aren't that spendy. You'll have to tack on 200-300 for a 4spider installed, then shipping. You'll be under 1500. If you're on a tight budget, it's a cheap setup that'll hold some power. The other things that come on stage 43594 sure can be nice, but if you are on a tight budget, there is nothing wrong with a standard rebuild with a 4-spider. |
