Has anyone ever heard of this stuff? My friend makes it and the shit is great fun once in a while, and it's legal. I can't even describe what happens when you smoke this stuff.

Pure ignorance in this thread. Salvia is a legal hallucinogen and if properly studied and thought out before use(like all drugs should be) there is nothing wrong with it. If any of you have or know someone that has smoked it and had a bad trip it's because they were stupid and didn't do the proper research before trying it. I make salvia in my home and when used properly and in the right conditions, it can be a very mind opening trip. Salvia should never be smoked in dark, uncomfortable places and there should be no more than 2-3 people with you. You should be in a well-lit area in a surrounding that is very familiar and comfortable to you(in your room on your bed, in a room on a couch, etc.) Don't knock something you haven't tried just because you heard bad things about it. Also, to the person who said that anything that makes you act like that is bound to be harmful to your body, salvia poses no medical risks if used in moderation and it is not addictive either.

Also for those of you that think it's too expensive, stop buying it from head shops and porno shops, first of all, the labels on the packages in stores always say they are a much higher extract than they actually are, for instance I bought "40x" from a local headshop and it the effect it had on me was NOTHING compared to the 5x that I made myself. Secondly, I made an ounce of 20x extract from $15 worth of salvia leaves whereas a gram normally costs $40+ in stores

This isn't middle school Tauni, people don't do drugs anymore just because they think it makes them look cool, drugs get such a bad rap from all the media hype that people don't realize that drugs aren't used to gain a higher social standing, but to open our minds to different things and allow ourselves to see everyday events and objects in a different light. Again, I don't care that you are against drugs, but don't assume that the only reason people use drugs is to appear cool to their peers.

How long has this stuff been around? It would seem like it's just not the type of thing that anyone can use legally and walk around in public without possibly walking into traffic, or even getting behind a wheel from what I've seen in the vids and read on here. So I'm curious about it's background.

Well, I don't think that HaredX meant that things like Coke or Heroin are used to open your mind, in fact I have no fucking clue why that nasty shit was ever invented. Thinngs like hallucinogens are used for that; that's what the 60s' were all about man. Coke, Meth, Heroin, etc is just fucked up and those are some of those things that we wish we could uninvent. And yes, other drugs are bad if you do them too much too, but you don't see things like towns falling apart to shit over something like Marijuana or Acid, usually it's those other ones.

Salvia has been around for quite a long time but it is very unknown for the most part. I learned about it by watching a news special on it on a local news channel. I have seen someone smoke it right in front of a cop before and there isn't shit they can do about it, but last I heard they are trying to make legislation to make it illegal.

If you knew anything about alcohol you would know that excessive drinking can destroy your liver and kill you and you can die of alcohol poisoning by drinking too much at once, I would like you to find me one case in the history of the world where anyone has died from marijuana or smoked so much that they overdosed and died. Your "stoner" friend may be a pothead but he's obviously much more intelligent then you seeing as how he knows that alcohol is more harmful than marijuana. I have a few friends who's lives have been negetively affected due to Marijuana. Marijuana didn't ruin them all by itself, it's the fact that they started with Marijuana, and that just cracked their shell into the life of illegal drugs. They couldn't just stick with Marijauans, a year later it was crank, then acid, then meth. I've seen what happened to them, and formed my own opinion on using illegal drugs. I could care less what you guys and your friends do, as long as it doesn't affect me. But you won't find me taking anything illegal, or even LEGAL in this case.

Anyone who says pot isnt a gateway drug is full of shit. I have and am still dealing with friends whos lives have been ruined by drugs. I have one friend that I am in contact with from my childhood, all the others turned to drugs. First pot, then coke/crack, then cooking meth and doing heroin. In the last year 3 of my child hood friends have had their mugshots on the front page of the local paper because of it too.

Anyway, back to Salvia, I dont want any. I will stick to my beer too!

Well, technically it isn't. The reason it is said to be a gateway drug is because of the lifestyle of the people surrounding it. There is no physical link between smoking pot and doing hard drugs. Alcohol and tobacco could also be called gateway drugs, because more people who smoke/drink end up using hard drugs, but not everyone does, so you have to see the other factors.

What made them do hard drugs, smoking a joint, or hanging out with the people who smoked the joint with them, and happened to have some coke/heroin that night. Catch my drift?

Edit: BTW, I'm not a pothead, nor am I defending/promoting pot smoking, just clearing up some misconseptions about the whole gateway drug thing...

For once I side with blue89quest. While its not chemically a gate way drug, it gets you in to much of a fucked up mind state.

And Haredx: There are exceptions to every rule. Look at the majority of pot heads? Social low lives is what most of them are. And how do I know? Because they were my friends. And they were all social leeches as well. But after graduation everything becomes clear of who is going where and why.

But what did the people that do hard drugs start out on? Pot is cool(to the user) until you get sick of it and want to try something else. I have heard both sides and I still think that if people dont try pot they will more than likely never try coke of anything else. Yes it is probably the people that surround them that are the culprits and not the drug itself but I still think people get sick of the pot feeling and want to try something else.
