Friends new ride!

3 Attachment(s)
For those of you that know my good friend Derek, he's the skinny white guy with the white 89 RX7 that has met most of you guys. Well he finally got rid of his old Civic daily driver, and just picked this up today from Morries. Pretty nice upgrade from his civic I'd say. Wish my daily driver was this nice!

I was kidding. I have driven a few of these at Tires Plus. Nice cars, power band is good down low, they kind of poop out on the top end though but they handle awesome.

To be honest, it was a bit slower than I thought it was going to be. But you're exactly right. the first 2 gears pull real nice, but kinda lacking in the higher gears. It would be ahorrible DD for me because I'd be figuring out what to mod already. But he says he isn't going to mod it at all. Either way, it's still quick for it's class, and is just overall very nice.

And ya, it's a Mazdaspeed 6. He bought it with 26 miles on it! They haven't been selling well it seems, so they are going for pretty cheap now. He paid slightly more then what SRT4's were going for new a couple years back, and it's a much nicer car in my opinion.

Can't complain for a daily driver!

Just out of curiosity, do you remember the name of the salesman your buddy went through??

I know most of the sales staff there and was just wondering.

I love those cars as well. I think Nash was even looking at one while evo hunting.

I don't know the salesman's name, but he drives a Prelude apparently. Oh and you can see him in the second picture kinda.

Sweet car. I really like them, but have never driven one. The NA 2.3 is a good engine, so turboed with direct injection it should be even better.

Great car, I test-drove the white one they have in stock last weekend and was fairly impressed with it. I do agree though, it really dies out in the upper gears and anything above about 5500 RPM's. I think a good exhaust and intake would really help that problem though. If you look at the exhaust piping, its at most 2", but I'd almost guess a little bit smaller.

Re: Friends new ride!

That guy wasn't working there when I was there (probably not you either, black97civic) but just like any dealership, they love to go through sales staff like a jeep through mud. You're buddy should have bought that mazdarati in the background! It's used and is sitting outside, I'm sure you could talk them down to 85,000 bucks or so. Put it on the credit card.

Halon 09-03-2006 01:10 PM

Re: Friends new ride!

I think he really wanted the turbo rx7 they had sitting out front actually.

What were they asking? 50K?

You must not know much about how fast maserati's depreciate. For a plain jane spyder or coupe, you are looking more in the 75,000 range, and if its an '04 you could pick up a low mileage one for around 50,000.

They are just all around stupid.

FattyBoomBatty 09-03-2006 03:59 PM

Re: Friends new ride!

Sweet, the price is getting to where it belongs: in corvette territory. And you're right, i had no idea of how fast they depreciated.

To..bad them don't come in AWD. But very nice ones at that too....

^^Umm... they are AWD....

Re: Friends new ride!

i ALMOST bought one of these. for the lower end model you can get them for 24k. not bad for 280hp and AWD.

Halon 09-04-2006 12:53 AM

Re: Friends new ride!

He bought his for less then 24k. And ya it's AWD, and 27x hp

Re: Friends new ride!

I'm curious about how these cars take to mods, and what kind of power can be milked out of them. Is there much aftermarket support for the Speed6's yet? I know you say he isn't gonna mod it, but I'm just curious in general.

Re: Friends new ride!

They are soo heavy though, 3600 pounds.

A FMIC would really help that cars top end, im sure the top mount IC that is stock gets quite toasty after you pull it through a gear or two.

TheBlizzard 09-04-2006 10:46 AM

Re: Friends new ride!

Yeah I am sure the car is made to feel like it has a bunch of torque down low. Most people for a daily driver don't care about a car pulling to redline. They just want to be able to merge into traffic and pass people having the feel of a V8. The car handles great and would be a great daily driver. Yes very heavy though.

Re: Friends new ride!

I am sorry guys. I forgot...I new I screwed up after the post. But eh...they are nice cars. hahaha

FattyBoomBatty 09-04-2006 03:51 PM

Re: Friends new ride!

I'm sure corksport or the other mazda specific aftermarket companies have stuff out for them already.

If I bought it, I'd do a fmic, "sport"-ier exhaust and some 23" blades with wood spokes and diamonds.

Kracka 09-04-2006 09:12 PM

Re: Friends new ride!

It is a heavy car, but the suspension holds that weight very well; its much less noticable that it is on other similarly sized cars. Its fairly nimble and the suspension/tires really hold the road.

Mazda makes a sweet chassis. That is why volvo and ford use their chassis'.
