New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Needless to say I ordered an AppleTV as soon as their store came back online. This thing will stream video from any iTunes mac or PC and let you download videos straight to it from the internet. Built in Wifi and hard drive :)
http://www.apple.com/appletv http://media.macrumorslive.com/p/1168363669-thumb.jpg The iPhone is expensive, but it looks absolutly insane. No buttons on it. Plays music, and then as you bring the phone to your ear there is a motion sensor that fades out the music and a proximity sensor so it doesn't push buttons as you touch the phone to your face. Built in google maps, yadda yadda yadda, the thing is as featureful as everyone was hoping. http://www.apple.com/iphone http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.en...official-1.jpg |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Damnit, if I knew this was coming out, I seriously would have bought some of their stock. It will only keep growing now!
Sweet new products!! |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Yup, their stock is up like $6.80 today ;)
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
haha I was gonna post this right after I found out, but I've been too busy talking to people at work about it. That and I wasn't sure if anyone on here would care.
runs OSX which means it should be supportive of 3rd party codecs, which means... I have to get one. I can't believe I want an apple product, this is the 1st time in history. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
That's kinda cool and exciting. Apple is pretty good about bringing to the masses what geeks can already do. This looks like a friendly packaging of a Tivo/MediaPC and SlingBox combo plus a proper mobile phone (like a Treo).
I'm still not sold on watching video "on the go". My Treo 700p already has SprintTV and a pocket video player and I rarely use it unless I'm just trying to kill time. So while cool, that feature just isn't necessary for me. The cool thing about this is the on demand content. On demand is the only way to fly these days, but I'll take an original XBox running XboxMediaCenter and downloads via Bittorrent over paying for Apples DRM'd content anyday. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
yeah, I already use orb.com to view all my media on my pocket PC phone, however the interface is extremely nice on this. Plus the 8GB storage space is awesome too.
The only things I don't like about it, is the fact that it uses EDGE so it's not on a 3G network. I'm also worried about how well the keyboard will work, the qwerty keyboard on my phone is amazing and I use it quite often. And how hard it will be to install 3rd party apps/codecs. But if all those things work out and the processor is fast enough for divx.... I'll probably get it. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Nevermind, I thought the AppleTV would stream to the phone. Guess it actually does less then my XBox can.
The builtin WiFi in the phone kicks ass and kudos to Apple for getting it in there. Palm didn't put it in the Treo because cellular providers didn't like it competing with them. I'm a little skeptical of no "hard buttons" though. Good luck using it without looking directly at it. Been there, done that, bought a Treo. :D |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
That AppleTV is out of the question for people that does not have HD ready TV's. My TV does not even have componet video. Hell it does not have S-video. Eh...I love to get that but I have to get a new TV. As for the iPhone looks very nice. Damn I want that iphone. That is more powerful then the video ipod. Heck its a itunes built right into it. That is very nice. But eh...can not get it at this time. grrr Thanks for that info man thank you.

Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Any idea how much they are gonna cost yet?
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
That phone is sweet. I wonder if you can download 3rd party software to it and how much memory does it have. I bought my Treo just for the ability to run car pricing software. Other than that, it's a complete brick.

Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
My $80 xbox does what the apple TV does and in HD and much more. Then again I have to maintain it and build the damn thing but still!
The apple phone is insane, didn't check the price but looks expensive. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
AppleTV seems like a waiste of money to me. I can already currently do everything it allows you to without it.
However I will need to be picking my self up aa iPhone asap. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
I would never buy that iphone. Frankly, I dont like how phones are so much more than phones now. Not to mention apple stuff breaks so easily/often. I need a phone that can withstand a reasonable amount of abuse, I would give the apple phone 3 days of working on a car before it breaks.

Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
The 8gig iphone is 599, the 4gig is 499. fucking christ thats spendy.

In any case, the iPhone is pretty sweet, too bad I just got a music phone from cingular with a 2 year contract last month... I do think the price is about $100 too much for most consumers though, hopefully they go down at the end of the year. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
8gb for 600 dollars that is insane. Forget that.... That thing is to spendy for my blood. And besides most music phones have more space then that. wow spendy iphone I say.
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
yea, its rape to buy a PS3 for that much. much less a god damn phone, albeit a cool ass one at that.
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Ummmm.. show me a phone that has 8gb of space built into it.
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
when you consider the fact that when you pull up google maps it knows where you are, and can bring up traffic info, directions, and nearby listings (and one touch calling to those listings) the price is even nicer. Built in sat-nav! ;) well, sorta...
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
That phone is fucking sick..... I'm actually considering buying one since I don't have a camera yet anyways.... Anyone wanna buy my i-pod? haha

"It's brilliant, beautiful, groundbreaking. But there are a few serious hurdles Apple (AAPL) will have to clear if it wants to truly revolutionize the communications world with the iPhone it announced yesterday: Price: As it stands now, the iPhone will cost $500 for a 4GB version and $600 for an 8GB version. That probably will place it among the most expensive phones and media players on the market. What's not clear, though, is whether those prices are before or after any subsidies Cingular might offer to get people to sign up for service plans. (Carriers typically discount phones by $200 or so to entice people to sign up for extended plans. If $500 and $600 are prices without a subsidy and service contract commitment, it could be a decent deal.) But either way, at these prices Apple is probably locking itself out of a market that has been key to the iPod's success: the youth market. Cingular's sure to sell iPhones with plenty of talk time and an unlimited data usage, and I suspect such a plan will cost at least $90 a month. High school and college students can't afford that, and neither can many recent college grads." More at the link above. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Damn, I need 30GB at least. I've got a 1 gig for snowboarding.
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
My 8gb Nano was only $210. There is also only a $50 jump in price from 4gb to 8gb on the Nano's. Wonder why it is double on the phone?
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Well, my phone service with T-mobile is done in a few months, so i think maybe i will be swapping to cingular and picking up a new phone :O)
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Cingular blows. This needs EVDO service.
|
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
I checked the prices on plans that cingular has, and it would be about $150/month just to have this thing and thats only 1350 mins/month.
I don't know about this anymore, i don't think that i am balling enough to spend $150/month or more on a cell phone, when i am spending about a 1/3 of that now. |
Re: New AppleTV and iPhone released today
Cool I think I can talk to the wife and see if we can resign up again. Hahaha she kill me if I say I want that phone.
Oh and how much for the 60gb ipod...? |
