Getting a tooth pulled.

I had a tooth extracted today and I opted to be awake over being put to sleep. This was a tooth that went to shit on me over the last year and finally needed to go. Man, was that a fuck'n mistake. I could feel everthing and the pain it starting to get worse as the night goes on.

I think they'll have to kill me before they take my wisdom teeth.

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

Was the tooth already out? As in they didn't have to cut it out?

Didn't they give you some Vicodin? That stuff works wonders.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled a couple months back (both of them were out so they didn't have to cut them out) and I just had them hit me with a bunch of novocaine and they wiggled them out. I thought it
would be a good idea to see how bad it felt when the novocaine wore
off. Bad idea. I wanted to die as it felt like my whole head was going
to explode. I then took the Vicodin they gave me and the world was
just dandy. :)

Vicodin For the Win. (Acronyms ftl)

Hahaha I had two root canals(sp?) done on me. And the 2nd one sucked more then the first. Oh man I think if I need another one done. I'll just have them take the damn tooth.

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

I've had 2 or 3 root canals, and I don't mind those as all. This tooth was already out of the gum, one of the lower just before a moler. They sliced and diced and even drilled, then yanked. If I would of hand anything in me I would of blew chunks all over them, and wouldn't of felt bad about it either for the amount of pain I felt during the process. The lady said I looked like I was about to pass out. I thought I was back there for an hour plus, Jana was like "wow, that was quick".

Overall, not something I'll willingly do again without being under the gas. I'm taking some meds, not vicodin (BOOOOOO).

I had to have four permanent teeth pulled and I made them put me under for that no way i'll stay up through that. they usually don't give you vicoden on regular teeth but wisdom teeth they do and when I had mine out I was on the stuff 24/7 for a week

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

When I had my wisdon teeth pulled, I had them put me out. For some reason I only had 3, the 4th never developed. Two came out fine, but one was coming in all crooked, so they basically had to crack it into 3 peices to get it out. They wanted me to stay up for it, but I told them that if they were gonna have to crack it apart to get it out, there was no way in hell I'd stay up for it. After that, they gave me Tylenol 3 (the stuff with codine). That was some good shit. Two of those and a beer, and I was good for the night.

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

Had a root canal done Feb. Didn't put me under but the entire side of my mouth was numb during the process. Didn't hurt a bit. Only thing that hurt was the $700 payment. They suggest a post and crown within a year because the tooth will get brittle. That's another $800. Screw that.

As long as we're on a tooth subject, has anyone had a root canal done and not a crown on that tooth, if so..how many years are you on now without a crown?

Yeah had all 4 of my wisdoms pulled with novacaine I was awake for that... Only the noise of it got to me.

I hate vicodin I'm allergic to the shit.. found that out after my back surgery.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was knocked out for it. It was great, woke up and it was all done; I felt no pain during or after.

Get the fucking crown, this is exactly why I had to get the tooth yanked today. Cause one day when I was new at ATK almost 2 years ago I was eating a milk dud and the tooth broke a bit. Little by little it got worse and eventually got really bad, my gum got infected, and after I saw the x-ray I knew it was no laughing matter. Basically I was a walking time bomb to where I could of woken up one morning with an infection that was the size of a golf ball.

Over the last 2 years I've spent a lot of time getting my teeth fixed up, and even had some serious cosmetic work done for preventative reasons. I'm not ashamed to admit I was horrible as a kid and in my teen years for keeping my teeth good and clean, but I do realize how important it is now. I wouldn't suggest putting anything off very long.

What about in the days to come? All my wisdom are in now, but they want to take them out. And when I have good insurance again I'll probably do it, but I can't stand being laid up. This one tooth it bad enough, thank god I have a laptop I can cuddle with.

I was back at work the next day. The only reason I used one of the 15 Vicodins given to me was b/c I was bored sitting at home and just wanted to sleep (this was the day-of the pulling).

Getting wisdom teeth pulled definitely seems to effect everyone differently, but the sooner you get them pulled the better.

exact same thing here. i would have gone back to work that day if i hadnt been all gassed up. so i went home, popped a vicodin.... and slept for 12 hours haha

next day i was back at work and everyone was asking me what i was doing. it was no big deal

I'll have to take your advice and get the crown done this summer. They told me at the time that they recommended around 6 months or so. It's my back bottom molar. I hardly chew much back there.

Was yours a molar too or one of the frontal teeth?

Had my wisdoms taken out a couple years ago, none were out yet, one was peaking though. They put me under and woke up to what seemed like a few mins later, they wheeled me to the car, got my prescription for vicodin and went home and slept for a long time. It wasnt bad at all, but the saltwater rinse was gross...

I remember vicodin really fucking with me taking only half the dose too. lol

Getting a tooth pulled is the worse. After I got my wisdom teeth pulled I could hardly eat for 2 weeks because I could not open my mouth.

Well good luck, I hope you start feeling better soon!

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled. They wouldn't be willing to knock me out as I had no driver, so I stayed awake. boy, was that an experience. I could see my chipped teeth flying all over the place. And the worst part was, when they tried to numb my gumbs the first time, I guess they didn't put enough or in the right spot so I felt alot of pain on their first try until I corrected them.

My mouth was really sore, and bleeding nonstop for an incredibly long time.

I had my wisdom teeth (only had 3) extracted (oral surgery) when I was about 22. It was terrible. I think I was off work for most of the week, and I don't think I ate much for about a month after. Good way to lose weight though. :D

It was one of my lower ones right before a moler. And the lack of a crown also made me change my chewing habbits, but over time it didn't matter. I wish I had an x-ray to post up, cause you'd get a better idea of how bad that shit turned out.

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

I actually still have my wisdom teeth, all 4.
It was a custom back home in Bosnia to take the teeth before the wisdoms out so that when wisdoms come in they have room to grow, so yeah, i don't have my whatchamacall it ones, but i have the wisdoms.
The suckiest part of it all, the dentist was in one corner of the schools building.

At the end of the 6th hour i went over to the dentist, got 4 perfictly good teeth pulled out, it was a shortage of novacain, she only used 1 dose on all 4 teeth, a guy comes over, she straps my head in and hands and legs too, and says to the guy "hold his head too", puts the mouth guard in and spreads my mouth open. She then climbs up onto the chair, puts one knee on my chest for leverage and starts yanking the teeth out, i swear she pulled my jaw out at least 2 times. after the 3rd tooth i don't remember anything because i fainted.

Now thats what you call being put under...

Not like these days they give you a injection and you wake up 2 hours later.

Then i went back to my 7th hour class to take a test, was 12 years old.

The memories...

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

i just had my 3rd root canal done yesterday, and it was the worst, the dentist didnt numb me up enough and then stuck the needle right in the nerve of my tooth, i started shaking and damn near ripped the arms off of the chair. Next is my wisdom teeth.

Onefast99gsx 05-30-2007 02:12 PM

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

Ya, when they did my root canal in Feb, the xray showed that my wisdom teeth appear to be coming in. I need to have it done before they surface. I don't have dental insurance. As long as they are below the surface yet, it's covered under my medical insurance.

With the R.C. the procedure itself wasn't bad. Not sure about yours but mine was done over a period of 3 visits. First visit was just to remove some of the abcession. The painful part was the numbing when they stick the needle into your gum. I'd swear he's coming out the other side. The other painful parts is that dam clamp they put around the tooth. I'd swear it's like a Vise grips plyers. They kept pinching the skin around the tooth. Hurt when the numbing shit wore off.

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

the wisdom teeth usually aren't that bad if they are not impacted. all four of mine were impacted and I was in excrusiating pain for almost a week thats why I used the whole prescription of vicodon and the refill. but it's different for everyone

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled in bootcamp.. That was fun had Two Lr Cmdrs do it and the one got to practice on me. That was weird hearing a drillling and sawing noise and then cracking. eww. The one who was practicing on me pulled like a nerve or something because that was paniful. I've had about 15g's worth of dental done. Yep Mt dew was the devil when i was little. But hey it was all free baby!

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

Enes, that's some hard core shit.

I can take a root canal like it's no ones business now, I've had to deal with a shit ton of pain in the past (not all cosmetic stuff is a joy either) and this tops it. All of my wisdom are showing so I'm not sure what I'll do. I wonder if I coudl just be put in a coma for a few weeks and wake up when everything is done.

Dang, I consider myself lucky. I have only had one cavity and it was in one of my baby teeth so its now gone (I think). And I never had to have my wisdom teeth pulled because they didn't pose a problem. I never had to have braces either.

Getting a tooth pulled just chills my spine.

mdost03 05-30-2007 07:44 PM

Re: Getting a tooth pulled.

I've never been put under for getting teeth pulled out (probably 4-6 altogether, don't remember). Luckily, I don't have any wisdom teeth (x-ray confirms this) so I won't have to go through any of that crap. I had braces from 4th grade to 11th grade though, but now my teeth are perfect so I can't complain too much. I never even had to wear my retainer after the braces were out.
