I like it, took a good hour or so to finally bite my lip and get it. There is so many different aspects to look at when getting one of these. I never really payed much attention until it actually came time to get it.

Nice! We just picked up a new Samsung as well. First one actually died within a week. The free replacement is working peachy. NFL in HD FTW!

Yeah I'm not going to get screwed on another TV, Bought the 3 years service with this thing. Worth the extra 300 bucks if it ever shits the bed.

We have 20 more days to decide on the service plan, not sure what we will do yet. Our first one just wouldn't turn back on after last sunday. We picked ours up from CC and they have been great to deal with, quick delivery of replacement was a nice touch.

My buddy across the hall (I live in the dorms) has a best buy brand 34"? HDTV and that shit is bananas, I can hardly fathom what the samsung must be like. The broadcast HD channels kick ass, I cant go over there when he's watching TV because whether I am into the show or not I end up watching it because the picture is so clear. Nice purchase man.

The link you posted said it had a PC input, which means it should have a VGA hook up, just like a monitor has. Usually a VGA plug is blue in color.

Once you get your first HDTV, you end up watch 10x more TV than you use too. And then you keep asking yourself, why you didn't buy one sooner. ;)

Curt

Nice buy! I looked at the larger ones but 40 inches is plenty big for what I'd want.

I must say, Having the laptop hooked up to this tv is the shit. Using a 40 inch tv as a monitor is fucking awesome!

Question: My TV is a 720, I feel as if I am kicking myself about this. I have until the 21st to bring this back and upgrade to a better 1080 i or p. What should I do? I gotta act quick if I do! Opinions and and comments are much welcomed!

JET 11-07-2007 03:42 AM

Re: New TV today!

For a 40" I wouldn't bother, once you get over about 50", then you want more. If you are going to use it as a monitor for the lappy a lot, then you might want to upgrade.

AJ 11-07-2007 07:54 AM

Re: New TV today!

In most cases I can't even tell the differance between 720 and 1080. If it's more $$$ and you use it more for standard tv and as a monitor you could just leave it as is. If it's not much more and you want to change it, do it now.

The only thing you can even view in 1080P is PS3 games (like a handful) and blueray movies.

If you can get 1080i, it's ALMOST the same. It does make a difference, but until 720p TVs are gone and 1080p is THE standard (meaning they can't charge extra for it) I will wait on getting a 1080p TV.

The TV you got was a great choice, I love my Samsung DLP. Curt is also completely right, I didn't watch shit for TV until I got mine, and now I spend at least a night a week vegetating in front of it.

A//// Guy 11-07-2007 10:19 AM

Re: New TV today!

Yea there is a major price jump between 720 and 1080 so I figured it wasnt worth it... And the difference is not hugely drastic like HD vs analog.

Why are you getting a new one? 1080? Id say research some models before you just go pick one...

Yeah I'm getting 1080, Thats all I have been doing is researching for the past 3 days. Way to many aspects to flutter the mind, All of them make themselves look like the best. I think I have it narrowed down a bit. The response time in my samsung vs sharp tvs is quite a bit different. 8ms vs 4ms.

X Factor 11-08-2007 01:14 PM

Re: New TV today!

Samsung is great... basically stay away from anything you haven't heard of an get some info on the manufacturer warranty, Samsung warranties tend to be good.

JET 11-08-2007 01:18 PM

Re: New TV today!

Remeber, the 4ms vs 8ms isn't accurate, that just represents what generation it is. The 4ms will be one generation newer than the 8ms one. In generalities I would go Samsung, but like Peter said, research the specific models if one catches your eye. Why did you decide to go 1080 on a TV that size?

X Factor 11-08-2007 01:28 PM

Re: New TV today!

The 8ms vs 4ms is interesting, I wasn't aware of that.

JET 11-08-2007 01:38 PM

Re: New TV today!

It is the same way with LCD monitors, they start skewing the tests more and more the farther they get down to help them fudge the numbers. There will be a difference, but not a full 4ms, probably 2-3ms.

Well I settled for basically the same thing as I got. It has 1080p now and the contrast ratio is 10000 vs 9000:1 now. The one I wanted they didn't freakin have so I got the one just below it. Now I just have a headache..

Well planning on going and getting another tv tomorrow. Looking at getting a 52" Samsung 120hz LCD. One thing I need help with is what series to get.. 650, 750, or the 850. Leaning towards the 650 just because of the money side naturally but the 850 I would think would obviously be "better".

What do you guys think?

Halon 11-28-2008 09:11 PM

Re: New TV today!

We just picked up a 46" A630 for my girlfriend a couple weeks ago. You don't see them in the stores as muc,h but it's pretty much identical to the A650, except for the screen has a matt finish instead of the glossy screen on the A650. She has a window facing the TV, so the matt finish screen helps cut down on glare a good bit.

I highly recommend it. We got her the TV, along with a Samsung Blue-ray, and the Samsung reciever/surround setup. It's amazing. Her new setup blows my 720p setup outta the water.

The 120hz is something else!! Things will zip by on the screen, but won't go out of focus. It's incredible. It does take a little getting used to though, because it's so in focus, unblurry, crystal clear, that it sometimes just tweaks you out. I highly recommend it!

Also, we got it all off Amazon. Quite a bit cheaper if you're on a tight budget, and delivered right to your doorstep! Circuit City did say they'd work with us on the price though, so if you're looking to stay local, they were the best about trying to price match.

Re: New TV today!

Well we got the last one at sears, and looks like we are going to go with them again. 3 years no interest and tomorrow is the last day of it I guess. 650 is about two even give or take then the 850 is about 2700 +/- a bit. The in law has the 750 and it blows my "standard" 40 inch sammy lcd out of the water. There is no comparing.

Halon 11-29-2008 01:31 PM

Re: New TV today!

We didn't research into the 700 and 800 series. The 630/650 seemed like it had pretty much everything. 1080p, 120hz, more inputs/outputs then we'd ever need. What does the 700 series ones have that justifies another near $1k?

asshanson 11-29-2008 01:50 PM

Re: New TV today!

The 700/800 series have slightly more contrast I think, and more inputs. The 800 series is only 1.9" thick, pretty crazy.

Well we bought the 52 inch 120hz 1080p 650 LCD. Not going to take delivery of it until we move into our house.

Main differences from what my short research was 850 was the thin one and like the 750 has built in hard drive that has games and pictures. That was it.. The all had 120hz they all were 50,000:1 contrast ratio. The housings were the only real difference. Picture quality in all three were all the same from what I could tell. They had the 650 and 850 side by side and there wasn't anything different that I could tell.

I just piced up an LG 47" 1080P 120Hz 50,000:1 LCD today yesterday, I read a lot of the reviews about it, and compared it, and have been eying this up for awhile and caved in finally.
