finally getting the car tuned
After 3 or so years of fixing , rebuilding and replacing it is time to actually tune the car. So #'s will be posted tomorrow after i get back from LSE, even though it'll only be on pump gas then re-tune w/ e-85 once spring hits and i get the rest of the fuel system in place.
so for those who asked here is the list of whats done block bored 40 over weisco pistons eagle rods balanced ported and polished head ss valves bronze guides bc 280 cams crower single valve springs titanium retainers 1mm lifters fidanza adj cam gears twin in-tank walbro 255 pumps pte 1600cc injectors aeromotive adj fpr high flow fuel rail-not sure on brand turbonetics t3 exhaust manifold tial 38mm gate gt3561 turbo w/ ar 82 exhaust housing xs power front mount-go ebay dejon tool upper pipe w/ gm maf tial 50mm bov tre stage 2 tranny w/ welded diff act 2600 clutch and flywheel w/ fidanza friction disk home made 3in exhaust dsm link thats basically it for power stuff of course brakes and suspension have been upgraded |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
so i lied i went ahead and put my 1600cc injectors in and did a fall tune on my car on e85. put down a good number but the boost will be turned up in the summer once the blend gets put back to normal. So this is at 22psi spike to 24psi

Re: finally getting the car tuned
very nice what mods done?
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Very nice numbers Craig!
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
gt3561 turbo, ported head bc 280 cam. springs and retainers. weisco pistons and eagle rods, bunch o other stuff that goes along those lines. good part is w/ the dual 255 pumps the stock line seems to be holding up so i can go get some cash back for the an line i have.
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
craig was up here you a good part of the day and I got me some free gas out of the deal when I drained my bro's tank about 9 gal's of 92 bp.
I know you were realy happy with the numbers when you were thing around 350 or so. wait till summer blend and 28-30 psi to come |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Damn...nice!
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Nice numbers Craig. I've got my AN line kit here on the workbench as well. Stockish size lines and dual pumps work just fine, so far.
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
yeah thats what i thought too, thanks as well
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Good power Craig!
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
oh yeah and of course the crappy act 2600 was slipping as well according to john
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Nice numbers man! What rpm are those tq and whp peaks at?
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
i cant remember exactly but i think its like 7200 or something idk i'd have to ask john
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Peak Tq: 349.0 @ 6000 rpm
Peak Hp: 408.3 @ 6400 rpm The clutch might be a problem in spring with a summer blend and a MBC, but it seems fine for now, it slips a little but I have seen worse. ~John |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
I think SA is the only one who uses a summer/winter blend, i called holiday and they said they run 85% yeah around, it also says on the pumps at SA 70%minimum and at holiday 85% minimum.
Congrats looks like a fun ride. |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Nice numbers!!!
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
There is supposed to be 4 changes in E85 in this area throughout the year. Summer blend is June, July, and August. Merkzu has an alcohol mixture gauge in his car and had something like 81% ethanol on the dyno day from a Kwik Trip near his house, he from the Holiday's near his house he was getting something like only 70% ethanol.

Re: finally getting the car tuned
Craig, do you have a chart with boost and RPM? What cams and intake manifold?
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
well i finally called up SA n Holiday and told me that they have switched to E70
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
no chart on the boost and rpm unless john has one saved somewhere. as for cams they're bc 280's and a stock intake manifold
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
The dyno logs everything and you can look it up at anytime, I will give one to your bro if you want. Dyno settings: 4wd Center Viscous, inertia set to 80, ramp rate of 120, all corrections off, straps on the back only with a strap to hold it back so it does not pull up on the dyno, no knock showed up, NGK BPR7es plugs @.028, E-85, and 24.5psi of boost.

Re: finally getting the car tuned
Here we go again. Here is a link to a post I made about the DD and why we use it the way we use it.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/sho...=dyno+dynamics Long story short for this thread, if the car pulls up on the rollers you have the weight of the car putting load onto the load cell also. This will make the power read higher then if the car did not pull up the rollers. We did some testing with my stock 1g and the car would make anywhere from 140awhp to 210awhp pending how the car was tied down and the ramp rate. Also we did some testing with my Honda and the settings in the computer, and it would range from 80 fwhp to 225,xxx.x fwhp that is not a typo. The graph screen can only show up to 30,000hp and the snap shot file can only show up to 99,999 hp but tractive effort can read up to 9,999,999 lbs, which the computer showed 1,xxx,xxx lbs of tractive effort for the Honda. As long as you set the cars up the same each time and you see gains/loses from tuning thats what matters, the end all number is just that, a number. Just like any measuring device, two people measure the same thing and you get 2 different numbers. ~John Time to go run my car again and let it pull up on the dyno and see what numbers we can get. |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
I don't know how you would ever get traction on FWD cars without letting it pull up on the roller some, if you hold them back too much, the tires will spin.
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
C'mon guys, let's keep the drama to the dyno day thread! ;)
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Craig, when are you getting your car? We always check MPH vs RPM if we hear a car spin the tires or have the clutch slip, as long as the RPM is off the engine somehow it will show a straight line if the clutch/tires hold. This is a fun Q/A though.

Re: finally getting the car tuned
got it like at 730
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
So, is anyone not running E85?
Was that reving out to 8000? Time for an intake manifold. My wife's drops power like that too. |
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Mine drops off pretty hard after 7k on top too. I am also on the stock intake manifold.
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
yeah i'm planning on getting a smim but gotta get the funds back up again first

Re: finally getting the car tuned
LOL i got my intake manifold a LONG time ago, when magnus was having the Buy an intake mani, get a fuel rail free. That was last year, around this time actually. I love it though. Always wondered why everyone runs the stock manifold on these big turbos, i guess it just doesnt make sence to put a bottleneck right before the engine.

Re: finally getting the car tuned
i agree but i just needed to get it tuned before it gets re-tuned this spring

Re: finally getting the car tuned
I'm also on a stock IM. If Jet would just hurry up and make his! If he doesn't get it done soon, I'm going to slap something of my own togther with some scraps :)

Re: finally getting the car tuned
my father and I just changed the car over to a 1gb talon rear. I like it so much better than the 1ga so yay me.
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
nice mods I looking for more power as well GREAT JOB
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
Did you find the plugs you needed?
|
Re: finally getting the car tuned
father did his thing and made the ones we have work.
