just wondering

yes

how much you think the stock headlights costs?
how much you think the stock front bumber costs? (97-99) |
I did this on my talon. I bought an OEM Poly. front bumper from a seller on ebay new for $190 dollars shipped. You can buy OEM 97+ headlights, but it's to your advantage to just purchase after market lights. I got a nice set of APC dual projectors for 200 shipped. They use the stock bulbs, not the crappy H3 fog light bulbs that many other projectors use.
Everything bolts right up... you shouldn't have any problems. |
where do you think i can purchase this stuff? ebay? and jimwross did you get the stock 97+ fog lights? and where can you get those? the mitsu dealer? could i get everything from a mitsu dealer?
|
I've got a 98 GSX front bumper for sale, I've just got to clean it up a bit. Email me offlist if interested. sghenterprises@comcast.net

That is an auction from the same seller I bought from. I highly reccomend him; from payment to recieving it was ~3 days. ----- You'll need the foglight bezels (little plastic holder things) from the mistu dealer. I think the total is like $11. I didn't buy the actual fog lights from the dealer I used: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2454687561 They are exact replicas of the Piaa 1100x PLATINUM SERIES. As you might know the PIAA 1100x fits the stock holes perfectly. ----- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2462360274 That is an auction from the same seller that I bought the dual projectors from; he's an ok seller, kind of a jerk but I got the product. If you have any questions let me know. Jim |
do the headlights come with bright white bulbs, like the fog lights?
where could you get stuff painted in MN? |
Matters what kind of stuff you need painted. Everything Jim posted up is all you would need to get the lights working and everything by the looks of it.
|
i think i would like to paint that front bumper if i buy it, and maybe repaint my whole car. i could do all the other stuff (installing, electrical, etc)

yeah ill hit you if i get it, aite?
gotta get a dsm first |
I'm not quite sure what piece you are talking about; the fog light bezel or the entire front. Either way, if your going to just paint the front or anything, just take it to a Maaco. You can get the entire car painted for 700; and its good quality; atleast was for me, just make sur eyour particular one does good work before you take it there.
Jim |
when you say entire car , do they strip every thing and paint it? or is it just the out side of the car? they put shiny gloss pain or what ever on it too right?
|
this 97+ headlights/frontbumper swap works on all 2g dsms right?

HA Maaco, quality. Thats funny.
You get what you pay for. There is really no prep, for 700 bucks you just get a new color sprayed on your old color. |
They used clear coat on mine, they sanded and prepped... I dont know I mean i've heard horror stories about maaco but heres what you have to remember. Every macco is a franchise... so every shop can be different in how they deal with you; go in talk to them, look at examples of what they've done just like any other shop. The only thing most maacos have in common is that htey are uniformially cheap. I dont know, when I took mine, I couldn't justify paying 1500-2500 on a 95 talon... seems dumb to me. Anyway, it turned out great; I know other people have had lots of success with them as well.
If you'd like some photo examples let me know. |

You might get a little prep with maaco if you do the cheapest option they have but it wont be down the the metal priming etc. They will just scuff it and paint it. The paint is prolly not the greatest either. It may look ok and for 700 bucks it prolly is, just who knows how long it will last and how durable the coats are.
|
could you make your own color? like mix up other colors to make a new one. you think they could strip down the whole car and paint every single body part(sanding it and all that good stuff)?

taking out tall of the interior, take out the motor, wiring, and everything else that does not need to get painted.

$700 Isn't thier cheapest option, its a pretty high option; they do the sanding and stuff. There's a cheaper option that they advertise, where many people get thier opinions from. Here attached are some maaco paint jobs (same option I used)

wow , that stuff is nice. i think im going to get a 1g if i can repaint it for $700. that blue one looks really nice(1g).
|
what about the 97+ eclipse wings, could you put those on any 95+ 2g?
|
Yup... I bought mine off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2461298132 It's around ~150 new shipped. Haha, I guess I did the whole conversion... if you want info on the conversion from talon to eclipse, or the whole info on it all lemme know. |
Yea I said you didnt get the cheapest option thats why you got prep. The cheapest option is the worst. That is where they basically just spray a new coat on to make it look pretty to sell it quick.
If they did a good job and used good paint that is sweet, but Ive just never been a big fan of maaco just becuase of there scam job of painting for real cheap just so it looks "new." |

My grandma had a fairly new accord that rusted on the fender... she took it there and did absolutly shitty work. I guess even at maaco you get what you pay for. But.. then again, how much do you really want to spend on a 10-15 year old car for a paint job? hehe. |

As far as the rust on the fender goes, what were you expecting? You should have just bought another fender. It is going to rust again anyhow. I highly doubt that they cut out the rust and welded a new section in. You should have just gone to a junkyard and found another fender for $75. Then you have a better chance of the paint matching anyhow. |

Nobody does down to the metal sanding. It is pointless. many cars have dents, dings, etc anyhow. They prep every car. Just some better than others. There is no way they could take your car through the wash and spray it. Painting is alot of work. Amaco is cheap for a reason. Their prep work is less than that of a normal shop. Painting is not the difficult part. Painting in itself is the easy aspect. Sanding and prep work is the hardest and most time consuming. That is why they are able to charge less than other shops. They only scuff to make the paint stick somewhat to the car.... I didnt know that Amaco painted cars, is that new? ;) Oh and about welding a fender area. Maybe its not worth it for the front fenders, but I had a section behind the passenger door that was welded in and painted.... Also if an area had rust and it was properly sanded off and primed and prepped then it should NOT rust back. Unless it was crapply prepped and painted. |

Painting takes alot of skill.. if you dont want runs and stuff. I mean any person cant just grab a gun a spray the car and expect to have it turn out well. |
