Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I started learning last winter, wouldn't mind keeping it up.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
have you bought a board or bindings or any thing yet?
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I usually go once or twice a year. This year I've been recruited to teach Allan and Jana. We'll see how that goes. :) I'm going to teach my Girlfriend too. Oh, and my cousins are coming up for christmas this year and they want to try snow boarding too. So, I guess I will be going a lot this year. :)
I just have a cheap setup I picked up from an old roomate a couple years ago. I got new bindings last year, but I want to get a new board and boots too. |
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I do but have not gone in a few years. I will be going this year if I have the time

I've been doing it for 6 years now, had that SIMS board until last year when I got a Rossignol travis rice board, 159cm and much faster. However, I should have held out until this year and bought the Libtec travis rice board, The House now carries Libtec. Went to crested butte my first year, and been going to Targhee every year since then, including this coming new years. For me it's a toss up between freeride and freestyle. I really like the out of control fast downhill stuff with lots of powder, but at the end of the run I like to get a few jumps in at the park. Nothing like a half pipe or crazy rails, just basic stuff so far. |
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I go to spirit mountain. It is so nice to have a season pass there.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been boarding since 1991. I used to get a season pass at Spirit Mountain every year. I've gone once or twice the last few years, time is short and it's not too good for us with low back problems. I miss it though, Hot 100 Schnapps on the chairlift to keep warm was lots of fun back in the day. Bloody Mary's at 9am in the SM bar was a lot of fun as well, the best ones out there.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I'll be at Welch Village a lot this year ($100 season pass for college students). I'll also be heading to Colorado to board over Christmas break.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I used to have a Black Snow snowboard, it was awesome, it was the black plastic one.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been boarding for like 5 years now and I absolutely love it. Lutsen is nice, hyland sucks balls imo, and afton is sweet. I usually stick to colorado or montana when it comes to really snowboarding.
I just got a new setup last year: nitro mark frank montoya sig board 32 lashed boots burton cartel bindings http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/phot...17621_6104.jpg i figured since everybody is a pic whore I might as well please the crowd |
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been to Lake Tahoe twice and try to hit the slopes around here a few times a year. No parks for me, I just carve and leave trenches behind me.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been boarding for probably 5 or 6 years now years now, but it's been quite a while since I've gone. I ride an old Lamar Hexan 159, and 2 years ago I got some K2 Cinch bindings. They're the best bindings I've used so far!

Re: off topic, who snowboards?

|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Goofy rules.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been snowboarding for about 6 years now.
I have a pass to Welch (College pass, $100 baby!) And I usually make a trip out to Colorado, Idaho, or Utah every year. But right now I ride a Rome Anthem with Flow bindings. I love my current setup and would suggest Rome boards to everyoneone. Only problem is the Flow bindings are really heavy, so I think I'm going to get some Flux or Rome bindings soon. |

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I've been skiing since about 1987. I spent some good time riding goofy on a snowboard, but now-a-days I've been sticking to a pair of skis. I've gone out west every year for the past about 13 years, except one hunting for deep powder. Last year was no different:
see if you can find scheides! http://www.scheides.com/albums/bigsk...1089.sized.jpg My buddy grabbing some air: http://www.scheides.com/albums/bigsk...1207.sized.jpg (tough to tell, but he's a solid 10' in the air right there) Another of the same kid....he's 15 ;) http://www.scheides.com/albums/bigsk...1509.sized.jpg |
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
^I hate when I see younger ppl better than me lol!

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Well I been snowboarding for 8 years. Been to Utah three times. Loved it I wish I can go back. But I have not boarded for four years now. My set up is pretty much all Burton. I know I still have my 158 Hooger. My new board is a Burton ... Dragon series. I have the Stomp in bindings with boots. Pretty much all I am saying is I can not remember what kinda board I have. hahaha I started on a Burton 4.1 back in 1995 and boarded regular. I am hoping next year I can go out again. If I get a chance I'll dig out my board and snap a shot. But I ant putting my bindings on it until I know for sure I am going out!

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
This year will be my 7th year 'boarding. I've got a '02 Burton Balance 157 or somewhere around there, with Burton Freestyle binding (not to bad). Im planning on getting more of a freestyle board. Im thinking about the Gnu Street Series for now. Been doing the boardpark here and there, but most people I go with are too scared of even going through the park, so I've been held back everytime I go. I think I suck for a 7th year rider. This year I'll be teaching a bunch of people and hopefully they pick up the sport. It's way fun. I'll going to Spirit Mt this Friday afternoon then to Afton on the 29th and more during the winter as I get more people to go with me.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
^I totally agree. I'd love to get better in the park but most ppl I go with are kinda nervous and I don't want to split up and board alone. I do alot of backcountry though and you can find some pretty rad stuff to fly off of and jib in the woods. Big mountain in one week baby!

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Are there any places or suggestions for practicing before going to an actual hill?

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Hyland is closer to you than buck, and its tiny but good to learn on.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
hyland is so packed its not even fun
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Yeah, going to a packed house isn't ideal but more so I'd rather go my first time with some others who are also learning.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
^I'ma teach my friend to board in a couple weeks. I'll probably take her to buck hill.
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
I used to snowboard. I bought everything I think 2 years ago but I never have time anymore and my ass always hurts for days because I still suck at it. So if anyone is looking for a good set up that is still basically new for their gf or something let me know :)

Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Just wanna let you all know I'm in montana right now. Went to blacktail mtn the other day and it was kinda a downer. $28 got you a day pass but the bottom of the mtn was closed so there wasn't much to ride. I was at big mtn/whitefish mtn yesterday and that was the best snow I've ever ridden on in my life, and I've been to some bigger place: vail, breck, big sky, bridger, keystone... The only downer (and it was a big one) was that it was so cloudy and foggy you couldn't see more than 40 feet in front of you at times. Hopefully it clears up tomorrow
|
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
Ah, I used to live right by Bridger Bowl. Almost worked there.
If you want to save a few bucks you can go to Moonlight Basin instead of Big Sky in that area. Smaller, but plenty of runs and on the same mountain. |
Re: off topic, who snowboards?
The snow really depends on when you go. Nearly every single year at Targhee we get a couple feet of snow the week we are there, plus several feet before we get there, so it's incredible. However, last year they were really light on snow early in the season, so everything was moguled up, or groomers, which suck. So it was pretty average skiing most of the week, until the last two days it snowed a foot overnight each day, made up for the early week. Even then you still caught a little mogul under the powder.
I think I was at Big Mtn. two years ago visiting my uncle and I wasn't impressed, mostly because it was overcrowded when I went over Christmas break and there was no good snow. Timing is everything when it comes to your opinion of a place I guess. |
