E85 set-ups

Just out of curiosity I am interested in hearing about other peoples E85 set-ups.

Here is my mods list on tuners: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/memb...ngy-75046.html

Re: E85 set-ups

My last year setup:

PTE SCM50
1600's
single 255hp
DSMLink
366awhp on ~23psi on DynoDynamics

This year there are going to be a couple changes.

Re: E85 set-ups

What are this years changes for you? Sounds like a pretty good set-up, what compression ratio are you? On the msextra forums there are a couble of guys praising the high comp turbo e85 builds.

Re: E85 set-ups

My setup is

2.0 wiseco/eagle combo at 8.3:1 (wish i would of done 9 but didnt think I was doing e85 at the time)
1600 injectors
dsmlink
crower 414 cams with dual springs and titanium reainers
SMIM
TD06H 20g
255 pump

Dynoed this setup only on 92 and was at 306 WHP with 19psi but now have 12psi more boost and more timing as well.

Any guesses at what gains I am probably seeing with that much more boost and a hair more timing?

Re: E85 set-ups

Plans this year is a new turbo setup. and hopes to break 500hp on a Dyno Dynamics.

This is on a 2.0 Mahle/Eagle setup, 8.5:1 compressoin

Re: E85 set-ups

500hp on a dyno dynamics is quite the feat! all the power to ya man.

Re: E85 set-ups

You guys with 'Link/AFC's should post up your IDC's.

I haven't got mine running yet. But this is what I have.
850cc Injectors
DSMLink
FP18G
255lph
Hoping for ~23-25psi with a decent IDC(Hope it's not too high)

I ran 880's on a fifty with e85 and 24psi and was at 87%.

Stock longblock, minus HG & studs.

Re: E85 set-ups

Evo 3 16g
255 fuel pump
750 injectors, 19 psi and 80% IDC

60-1
Walbro 255
950 injectors 34 psi 90% IDC

Alot of people misconceive the injector part and go alot larger injectors then what is required.. which is fine since then you can later upgrade..

By "Adding", do you mean a second set of injectors, or swapping the 850's for 1600's?

I have 880's now and am thinking of adding a second set of injectors(680's that I have laying around). Wondering if it will be enough for the setup below.

AEM EMS
2.4l 9.0:1
GT3561
HKS 272's
Sheet metal intake mani
75mm Tbody
gigantic fmic(and 3" piping)
3.5" exhaust
etc. etc. etc(literally everything).

I'm thinking of twin 255hp, twin fuel lines, twin fuel rails, and a single Aeromotive FPR. One rail with 680's and the second with 880's. Want to get great gas mileage for daily driving and have the second set kick in when I want to go nuts. All on E85 or E98 depending on weekday or weekend etc.

I'd like over 500awhp at Shanes place. Doable?

I swaped the 850's for 1600's can't do staged injectors with Link.

I think 500+ on a 61 is very doable if your willing to push it over 30 PSI.

Re: E85 set-ups

Wow this is alot more e85 users then i though

Jungy 03-07-2008 09:19 AM

Re: E85 set-ups

Agreed! I didnt think there were this many people on the boards running e85 either. I'm at 86% duty cycle with my 880's according to megasquirt, running 22psi and a s20g.

Re: E85 set-ups

This thread FTW. Keep the info flowing guys.

Shane, what kind of IDC do you see on your setup? Also, you have tuned many-an-evo on E85, care to post up any info about those?

Mo, Screw the twin rails/injectors, just do some 1600's. Less parts = more reliability. I think bigger cams might be a good option for you to, no?

Shane@DBPerformance 03-07-2008 10:59 AM

Re: E85 set-ups

On the Evos we almost always just throw in some 1000cc injectors when we goto E85 on the stock Evo 8 and Evo 9 turbos. I have done a bunch like that with the factory ECU and the AEM EMS. Power has been in the 320awhp to 380awhp ranges, all on stock turbos. I haven't done an Evo on E85 with bigger than an Evo 9 turbo yet. I did max out a single Walbro Evo fuel system on race gas on our dyno at 480awhp though, so I think pushing close to 400awhp on a single Walbro might be about it on E85.

I don't know the IDCs on my setup, my car is a poor example though, the big injectors are over compensating for too little fuel pump and fuel pressure dropping. My fuel system isn't up to par at all and I have seen drastically different A/F ratios without ever changing the tune. It did make within 5whp with the A/Fs in the low 12s versus richer than 10:1 on E85.

It probably wouldn't be a huge deal for Mo to goto a duel rail setup though. He has Rau's old intake manifold from his 2G AWD with everything on it to run a second rail. I think Mo might actually have a stock DSM rail and stock injectors clogging the holes right now. He also has an AEM that can do staged injection. The factory Mitsu ECUs can actually handle 1600cc injector better than the AEM, when we do 1600cc injs with the AEM EMS we pretty much always do a peak and hold injector driver box and they still can be hard to control at idle/low load. We run 1000cc injectors for primarys and 1600cc injectors for secondarys that start kicking in when the primarys reach 85% duty cycle on that white Evo.

Re: E85 set-ups

I did 520 something at Shane's on E98 blowing off IC couplers. 1600's were at ~80% IDC.

2.4
9:1 Wisecos
HKS 272's
formerly AEM EMS
FP3575 (t67)

I've got 720cc secondaries all set up but I didn't need them apparently since it wasn't even close to 100% at 31psi. I don't plan on running more than 35psi, so I just don't need the 720's.

Can't wait to see that thing back on the road this spring Steve.

Re: E85 set-ups

Im surprised to see so many people running 1600's with link. Curious how well they work.

Mine:
95 tsi AWD
2.4 g4cs
9:1 wisecos
eagle rods
jmfab intake mani
fp3's
FP3565
1600's on order
DSMlink
bosche 044 with walboro 255 intank, -8 supply, -6 return
75mm tb with remote mount IAC
apexi delta wedge FMIC

Motor is still on the stand, going in soon once I assemble the tranny

Link works really well with the 1600's, just have to dial them in and you'll be good to go.

Re: E85 set-ups

1600s are a lot more forgiving on E85 also.

Halon 03-11-2008 12:31 PM

Re: E85 set-ups

Agreed. When I first put in my 1600's, I did it while I was still running normal pump gas, and it was difficult to get them to idle decently. Once I switched to E85, idle quality improved quite a bit with the injectors. My idle still isn't perfect, but better. Idle quality is one thing I'd really like to improve upon this summer.

Archertsi 03-11-2008 10:12 PM

Re: E85 set-ups

Good to hear, I've never tuned before with 1600's and DSMlink.

Any one got a link to tips as to how they made it work?
