my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
my boy wants to get a 12.9 on a 91 awd tsi, his current mods are 16g turbo, whalpro 190 fuel pump, ported O2 houseing, 2.5 in upper intercooler pipe, 5 speed conversion, ported exhaust manifold, 2.5 inch exhaust, boost controller, 4 bolt swap. What else does he need to get in the 12's the car club he is in you need 12.99 or faster to quallify as elite. he's planning on buying a front mount and dsm link, any other mods that should come first he doesn't have a lot of money.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
i have a 61 setup, he could use that and get 12s easy as hell.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Be a responsible parent and keep your 16 year old out of the 12's before he wraps himself around a tree. A lightly modded DSM is plenty for an inexperienced driver.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
hey... when I was 17 i was driving a mid-12 second car.... you just have to be a responsible person and know when you are actually able to use the power.... my mom hated my car and when I made it faster, but I always told her... its just for getting up to speed on the interstate and back country roads :D
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
He should be able to go 12's on that setup. Don't mod the car any further until he does :) Put in some race gas and crank up the boost to like 22psi, drop tire pressure to about 15psi, and then then SHIFT EARLY! 14b/16g isn't making much power after 6k, search around this forum for good shift points for that turbo/setup.
Then teach him to be responsible with the car, respectful to other people on the road, and polite and extra respectful to the police! If he is not, he will loose his license in a hurry and none of this will matter. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Just drop some race gas in her crank the boost and let her buck!
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Also, teach him that street racing is a BAD THING, and don't go putting NOS or anything silly in the car. I sold my 1G to a guy that was a REAL A-HOLE and really up on his son street racing with it. It had a 20g, FMIC, 650's, good clutch, etc. great combo. The car ran for 5k miles and ended up on ebay because they blew it up with NOS and probably dumb-ass driving.
Don't be that guy. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
My dad's friend gave his 16 year old son a '91 TSi AWD...he lost his license within 3 weeks. The final straw, busted doing 100+ in a school zone with his little sister in the car.

I would have to agree with people here, but him some roller blades instead, and keep the car stock.
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
yup, i'll have to agree 100%. I was one of the few cases of a teenager who drove respecatably, and when my friends saw I had a car with a 50 trim and such they started buying dsms also. Next thing you know I'm the only ticketless, licensed person out of 4 of us who had turbo eclipses.
So bacially, keep it on the track, and if you cant be reponsible throw a 14b on there and drive it like that.... you can get into enough trouble i've seen. Oh yeah, and with the good driving comes trust... enough for my uncle to let me drive his 69 gto for a week and his 02 M5 around for a few days.... but have your son make an account and get to know us... we dont bite (well kracka might) |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
:) I'm harmless.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
There's lots of Negative Nancy's on here, but there are also a few that have legit and knowledable answers!
Good luck...soon-to-be Grandpa! (your kid is going to have a sick little turbo coupe) |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
What club is he in? And how many want to bet that there isnt a 12 second car in that club, but a bunch of 17 second civics claimin 12s because they have an intake and a muffler.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
^I will put down 3 packets of Perkins creamer as well as 2 Multi-Fruit jelly's that you are correct.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
I was pulled over a few times in my first car (mazda mx6) because I was drivin stupid or speeding. I have yet to get a ticket driving my dsm and it's quiet a bit quicker. Basically, I feel like I don't have to prove myself faster than every little honda that wants to race. I can finally just shake my head and laugh knowing that I'd more than likely smoke his socks off.
You're the father though not us. Just make sure your kid is a responsible driver and doesn't get himself or somebody else killed. 12 seconds is pretty quick for a 16 year old. I'd just get that 1g as clean and pretty as possible then they'll want him in the club. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
16 yr olds and 12 sec cars dont mix. damn, ill put my pancakes in with that bet!^^
P.S. should be able to hit 12's with that setup w/ a good driver and with more boost and 110 race gas.. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Great, parental advice from a bunch of 20-somethings, except for old Kracka. :-) I had a 14-second car when I was in HS, I raced everybody and never lost to anyone my age. You don't know his kid, so don't bother with the advice unless you're a parent yourself.
That being said, some good tuning and race gas will get you there. You might need some sort of fuel control if you don't have something already. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
drag racing at 16 sounds like a good father son thing to do.
just make sure that you are letting your son know its better to race his car on the strip and have nothing to prove on the street. hell if i had a fast car id carry around my time slips from the track and when somone wanted to race id say hey look at these slips prove you actualy race your car legaly and meet me at the track other wise shut your mouth. and throw a beeoch at the end of that. anyway id rather help my son build up a fast car and participate with him in legal races than have him go out and do it on the street like all these dumb ass honda boys out there i got video of me in my gd bonneville smokin honda ass all over the place at the drag races 2 weeks ago but i got owned by every dsm i came up against. time to get intense on my bonne then ill run with the dsm's if thats cool with you guys? |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Get your kid's car going as fast as you and he want, but keep his racing on the track. Put down firm rules that he will not have the car any longer if he's caught fucking around on the street. We don't need to have a news headline from him.
I get accused for driving like a grandma on the street. The very reason for that is I have one speeding ticket 9 years ago when I was 19 and I promised myself I would never get another. I autocross enough that I don't feel the need to mess around on the street. |

Is X-Rated Car Club still around Minnesota?
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
i believe so, i see their cars every so often. Didnt they have some 12.99 deal to be in the club?
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
HAHA @ X-Rated! Who knows if they are still around, but I've heard Tyler is out of it. They may still be reppin' the mean streets of St. Cloud.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
I was racing at the track with my dad when I was 15 in his 67 cougar that ran mid 12's with street tires that would not hook up
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
For all anyone on here knows maybe his kids 1G is a track only weekend father/son bracket car. It doesn't say if it's a DD or not.
Race gas on that set-up should be well into the 12's. Hell I ran a 12.99 with only race gas, ACT2600, open stock, downpipe, 23psi and a blaha K&N setup. That car ran 13.0's @ 103 all day long. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
doesnt take too much to get dsm's into the 12's which is nice... but it doesnt take much for them to break either ;)
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
I did it with a VPC, 550 injectors, and a 20g. (Supporting intake and exhaust with fuel pump). Ran a 12.7 with bad synchros.
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
I remember when there was three DSM's in the 12's locally. The fourth took a VPC to break that 13.0 barrier. Seems like anybody can do it these days.
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
race gas lots of boost, I ran 12.85 on a 14b stock clutch and dp, I took the stock exhaust off and my spare tire out, got to the light reved to 5500 last yellow came on, and I let er have it...
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
The easiest thing to do is run race gas and turn up the boost at the track, that should net him a 12. Even my wife ran 12s with the stock turbo on race gas and she can't shift very fast.

Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
he will be running the car at the track. he ran 14.5 last year and had probally 60 runs down the srip under his belt at 15 years old. He biuld't the car himself from my leftover parts Its only fair to let him drive it. the club is clubredline at clubredline.net check it out, they do have a few fast cars including a 600+ horsepower supra and one of the fastest gtp's in the state, hes already a member but wants more.
he knows better than to play on the street he started on this car two years ago and is not going to lose it to the cops. he also has a honda to get to work and school. if you check most tracks require only that you can leagally drive on the road to run with me in the passenger seat and his permitt he was legal at 15. thanks for the advice and concerns I would rather have my boy in the garage than doing drugs with his addiction to cars he don't have money for anything else. |
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
Well said! Buy him some race gas :)
|
Re: my 16yr old needs 12.9 on 1g awd
wish my dad would help me with my car.
My dad sux in that aspect but i let my 11 year old work on my car with me and when he is 16 i wanna spank that ass at the track of course dad will have to have a slower car to let the son beat him and feel good about himselfe but its all good |
