My first project "The Beast"
This my first build for a DSM, and i'm trying to do what I do. The motor is only 60% done but it's coming along, trans is built with all the goodies and PTT twin disk. It should be done next week. Once it's back, it's on to get a little body and paint work done. I made a little slide show.

Re: My first project "The Beast"
Very nice! Quite a collection of quality parts!
Is that a jhm manifold? I probably got the name wrong, but he's that guy from wisconsin with the low 9sec 150mph 1g. |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
looking good, good luck
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Thanks. Yep that's Jake, he's a cool guy. It's a JHRacing manifold. The design is crazy. I know it will help spool up but I want to see how much power i will gain from it.

Re: My first project "The Beast"
looking real nice!

Re: My first project "The Beast"
Looking good!

Re: My first project "The Beast"
Looks good, what turbo is that?
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Is that little cooler up front the radiator? Car looks nice! I like the air horn :D
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
It's a custom spec triple ball bearing Comp Turbo. It's made from the ground up just for racing.

Looks good!! I like the color choice on the block, Our motors look some what simular..
Did you stick with the 2.0 or did you do a stroker setup? |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
They do have a resemblance. That's some nice welding and fab work.
It's still 2.0 I'm not ready to jump to full drag car, I like to cruise the streets, and it will be capable of running laps at the track. My next setup I will have the motor destroked to 2.1 and have 11,000rpm red line. But that's years away. Right now it's a all around race car :seeya:. No drifting. |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
DSM builds are either really nice or really crappy; good work!
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Good luck getting a DSM to shift at 11k rpm! I am not sure if even a dogbox would shift that high and I doubt the engine would last. As of 2004 Shep was shifting at 9,800 rpm.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Looks decent man, what parts did you use in the motor and what type of 'racing' is that turbo designed for? road racing? drag? Judging by the dual wastegates, it's probably fairly big...but how big?
Keep us updated! |

Diagram of triple ball bearing assembly please

Re: My first project "The Beast"
The radiator is not in yet. Still have to do wiring, radiator, catch cans, and a number of a couple of things.
The engine has ross piston, crower rods, port & polished job, FP 4r cams, etc. Red line is 8500rpm. Ported and polished Forrester intake mani with Q45 throttle body. The turbo is a .70 twin scroll T4. It's around the size of a 40r but will make more power than a baby 42r and spool up much ,much faster than both. It's big but will spool fast enough for me to lower the boost and do some road racing. |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
We aren't noobs around here, what turbo is it? TS T4 doesn't narrow it down much, nor does the .70 ar compressor cover.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Yea like jet said. Just tell us what wheels are in it.
I hate that "it'll spool like xxx but make power like an xxx!" |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
it won't spool xxx as advertised..fmic efficiency, piping size, exhaust size, cover sizes, intake mani, ported head, cams, degreeing, etc etc all make a difference..and even more so in tuning. so spool at xx rpm's doesn't mean much man.

Now for the turbo It's not that simple. These aren't off the shelf parts. Both wheels are custom. It's 70mm the same size as a baby 42r. I can only compare my turbo to turbo's of similar size because I'm actually the only person with this turbo, I never stated any rpm for spoolup. There is no secret I'm withholding. So it's a 70mm compressor wheel ( it's not a Garrett 70mm P trim or 42r wheel) and Comp Turbo's turbine, which is there own design and not a Garrett turbine, with Comp Turbo's own ceramic triple ball bearing CHRA. |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Comp used to be Innovative right?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
They worked for Innovative. They were two of Innovative head turbo builders.

Thanks, Shotgun! and samrawet.
Here's the latest addition to the car. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_0215.jpg |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Looks pretty good, you will have to let us know how the fitment is.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Yeah, curious who you got it from. Mine didn't fit all that well. The hood pins are what made mine finally sit nicer.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Got it from HI REV PERFORMANCE. Halon I may be getting a carbon fiber hood scoop like you have on your car.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Cool. Yeah mine was from them also. Mine is still only held in by 3 bolts. I have to wollow out a hole in my hood bracket to get the 4th to fit yet. Also it was like the whole thing was warped. Here's how mine fit out of the box. Too high here, too low there, I was a little peeved. Fits better now after I put the hood pins on.

Re: My first project "The Beast"
It's a bit disheartening to see the fitment come out like that. I know a good body man could work with it but it's still a PITA and bugs anal folks like me. I was looking at getting a set of CF doors from them and I hate to think about that fitment!
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
I have a VIS hood and it its pretty well, not quite stock, but very close and I don't have any hood pins on. Post up some pics when you get it on!
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Even the best body man couldn't get a hood like Brandons to fit like a stock hood withhout pins. It's way too high in the middle, hence the reason it's better now that the hood pins are in. But without them, there isn't much that could be done to get that hood to fit right. Unless you took the headlight covers off and egg'd out the mounting holes to get them to fit the contour of the hood.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
you couild try [arking your car in direct sunlight in the summer on a hot day that will pull the hood in a bit more but it still might not fit right
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Carbon fiber doesn't get soft if it gets hot. There's prettymuch no way to permanently alter the shape of it without fucking it up once the resin has cured.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
THey weren't the most helpful company either. I wrote them immediately about the fitment, and it took them a long time to reply. WHen they finally did, all the told me to do was to adjust the rubber bumper/stopper things underneath, and that should fix it. Ha, yeah right....
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Wow, that's fucked up. They were totally different with me. FedEx messed up my first hood and Hi Rev had it returned to them. One week later another one was shipped out overnight, which was yesterday arriving today.
But they respond to all my emails in a timely matter. |
Re: My first project "The Beast"
Glad to hear you had better luck with them then I did. Hopefully yours fits better too.
|
Re: My first project "The Beast"
The car is complete. The motor has a little more dressing up to do. But it is running. The hood looks real good.
