Yep..another one.
SO yea I thought I was gonna stay away from dsm's for a while, but just couldnt pass up buying a car, that I've been wanting for a year now. Im bored, so why not shout out what I got. Pics will come tomorrow, after it gets shined up.
Its a 1992 Eclipse GSX, 5 spd. Went and picked it up today from John here on mitsustyle. It's white, with black top, and 17 inch gunmetal rims. Black cloth interior, and what I believe to be a factory moonrooof! Got some stuff in it, nothing crazy, just a simple set up. Heres the mod list- act 2600 recently rebuilt tranny b16g SAFC FMIC 660s walbro 255 rewired battery in trunk Blitz BOV Ported 2g Exh mani Ported 2g O2 housing Full N1 exhaust 3" turbo back, no cats boost gauge and MBC Intake manifold spacer plate 17" gunmetal rims with good rubber 2g mas w/intake Thats just copied from the pm, so Im sure theres stuff here and there. Deal with it, is that it needs a new ebrake assembly, and its got a leaky oil filter housing, nothing big. Plans for the next couple days are to give it some fresh brakes, have the guys at primo powdercoat and shave the valve cover, install fans that are not in there, and have a set of hks 264's that will be going in. All in all, Im very happy with the set-up, and im sure it will be some fun. |
Re: Yep..another one.
If I remember correctly, I think it has a full Apexi N1 exhaust on there instead of the Bushur one. Should be easy to figure out by looking at the exhaust to see if it is a bluish purple color. The car also has a fairly new (low mile) ACT 2600. I bought the car from someone a few years ago and all it had done to it at the time was the exhaust, the 2600 and a recently rebuilt tranny. It had a few issues and I have not actually even driven the car. I had most of the aftermarket crap just sitting here and decided to throw it on the car as I already had it. I also pulled the head, put in arps, a new copper sprayed hg and did some other maintenance stuff before trading it away.
He probably could have made more selling the parts off the car instead of selling it to you, but he just wanted to get rid of it. |
Re: Yep..another one.
Get some pics up!!

Re: Yep..another one.
Oh and I think I remeber putting in a 2g MAS when it was my friends car. You can check by what MAS is on there. I soldered the plug and crap on so you couldn't tell by the wiring.

Re: Yep..another one.
Hard to say as most of the stuff was done as my friends car a while ago. I remember soldering the MAS stuff on for him. He was a mechanic and kept it in pretty good shape. His work did the tranny and QPR did the valve seals, EGR blockoff, and intake mani spacer. Reason it didn't have the headliner was because james got one at a junk yard and it was one without the dam sunroof...
|
Re: Yep..another one.
Yea I tracked a headliner down, waiting for the guy to get back to me. Need to clean out the drain offs for the moonroof, it was dripping a bit last night.

Re: Yep..another one.
A little update, sorry I'm being slow on pics, havnt been near my computer in the past couple days. Worked on the car all day yesterday. Swapped oil filter housings, installed the hks 264's, swapped some eibach springs onto some struts, redid the timing, and started her up. Ran good, cams lope nicely, but the leak wasn't from the housing. Gasket where the oil pump is, seems to be bad, so it's leaking a whole lot. Just gonna pull the motor and do all the seals while I'm at it.

Re: Yep..another one.
its to bad, i enjoyed seeing the progress on the maroon one you got from me, oh well, glad to see your making progress, get some more pics up

It would be nice to see what the car looks like clean :) Haven't seen that in a couple of years. LMK if you need any motor parts. |
Re: Yep..another one.
If I get time tonight I may be able to post some dirty pics. Don't have many though.

Re: Yep..another one.
^^haha. Nah john I had a spare housing lying around. I'm guessing that rather large gasket just got old and failed. I have some pics just haven't gotten around to putting them up. Gonna take new ones once I have the eibachs put in and once I get around to waxxing it. That might be a little while, so I'll try and get some up tomorrow.
Oh and cut out that front piece inside the bumper, the white line piece in front of the fmic. And cut and fitted the bumper support, looks good now. :) |
Re: Yep..another one.
Cool. If I ever had the time I would have thrown the support on and definitly got rid of the center. I didn't remeber the bumper sagging until I took the dirty pics. I know my car didn't look like that, maybe I had a larger FMIC or it was placed higher to support it better. IDK, I will have to check swifty's car next time I see it.

Re: Yep..another one.
Yea it looks a lot better. Here are some pics I took the day after I bought it, after a quick wash. Ill get current ones up, but figure I'd at least get some up.

Re: Yep..another one.
The bumper no longer sags as much, since I installed the bumper support. Ill try and snap some pics today when Im working on it.

Re: Yep..another one.
Was it an option or something for the 2gb to come with the more aggressive side skirts and front bumper? I don't think I have ever seen a GSX with that front bumper and those side skirts.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
That's factory gsx I believe. The talon 1gb came with a twist style side skirt, and a 3 hole front bumper. Most people cut the white piece out of the front (like I did). If you look at goatblowers gsx he has the same sideskirts.

Re: Yep..another one.
I see, looks really clean though! Nice pick up, doesn't appear to have any rust which is getting harder and harder to find in MN. Plus I love when any DSM has the black painted top, I'm jealous! :)

Re: Yep..another one.
looks good!
|
Re: Yep..another one.
It has it's problem spots, nothing too major.

well i don't have your number....

Re: Yep..another one.
Looks good.

Re: Yep..another one.
Those are the stock GSX side skirts. The 1gb Talon had the skirts and door moldings that went all the way up to the body side molding. That's the same way my car is, but mine has the talon tail lights and bumpers.

Re: Yep..another one.
So the timing belt keeps moving closer and closer to the block, fixed the oil leak today, but the timing belt is getting chewed up :/, any ideas on why this is happening?
|
Re: Yep..another one.
id check the crank pulley out that happend to my old one aswell. Pully got loose and the lower timing belt drive got cockeyed from the belts tension
|
Re: Yep..another one.
Did you drop a bolt down the timing cover or take the oil pan off? If you took the oil pan off, you likely put the bolts in the wrong holes. You might have a longer bolt rubbing against it. The previous owner did that to the first dsm we ever bought. Good thing we decided to take the top cover off once.
The crank pulley seperating doesn't mess up the timing belt. At least not in my experiences. |
Re: Yep..another one.
There's a thin aluminum plate between the balance shaft pulley and the timing belt pulley that holds the timing belt away from the block, make sure that's still in place and make sure the large bolt holding those on is not loose. Another possiblity is that either the TB tensioner pulley or the TB idler pulley is worn and wobbling in there making the belt jump around.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
My buddy says that he put the tensioner on backwards and it's pulling it towards the motor. Gonna tear it down again tomorrow and check things again. Just waiting on brakes and need to swap shifted linkages before it's ready to rock.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
If James is right, you will see a line wearing on the outside of the timing belt. Not sure when my buddy/if he messed with the timing belt. It has ARPs I think so he must have replaced it.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
Haven't touched the oil pan, and the cover has been off 3 times now, so I know there's no bolts down there.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
I guess what he is asking is if it looks like something is rubbing on the timing belt. On a car of mine, a prior mechanic put too long of a bolt in the oil pan and the timing belt rubbed on it creating a grove in the belt.
I am guessing it is not the issue here but that is what he is saying. I would look at what Steve (Goat Blower) is saying. What was the oil leak, the oil filter housing gasket?? |
Re: Yep..another one.
The belt was new. I did the HG and ARPs on it. Maybe had 2 minutes of running time on that T-belt. Too bad your buddy put the tensioner on backwards.
|
Re: Yep..another one.
saw your car today! looking nice! good luck with the timing belt issue and thanks for hte cover!
|
Re: Yep..another one.
damn tehehodi i must have just missed you! by like 10 minutes!

Re: Yep..another one.
John-The oil leak is from where one of the balance shaft pully bolts was, and since there isn't a pulley there, there was just an open bolt hole pouring oil out...haha.
Tehehodi-thanks, and youre welcome for the cover, isn't in the greatest shape. Sorry for not sticking around, I was wiped out from yesterday. Julian-get a haircut Slowbubblecar-yea they meant last night haha Timing should be fixed today, waiting for my full brake set-up to come in from Iowa, should be here tomorrow or saturday. |
