Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
So a month or so back, I sold my 1991 1G-A Eagle Talon TSI to Alpha DSM.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24543 At the time, to the best of my knowledge, I diagnosed the current issue as massive boost leaks. The car was sold AS IS. After the sale, he texts me asking how to do _____ or why this doing _____. Basically annoying texts all the time. Now, he texts me while I'm at school, asking who did this, how to fix this, telling me that this part and this part aren't working, this issue is popping up. My point being... Should I keep dealing with his texts? I feel like for a car sold as is, I shouldn't be taking time out my day to answer questions. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
He bought a DSM. Unless you were shady and didn't tell him if something was booty/ghetto-fab, just tell him to quit bugging you.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
This seems to happen often with dsms.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Tell him there is a search button on the forums for a reason. If he has any questions he'll have to learn for himself.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
lol, true. It happened to me and I sold a stock dsm. I tried to be helpful and made sure that he was fully sure he wanted to buy it before doing the switch.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
if it was sold as is it was sold as is and no need to help but there is nothing wrong with helping someone out a little bit
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
This happens way too dam much. I get it all of the time when I sell parts. I sold a 14b turbo to someone once and he kept texting me asking how to hook up the external wastegate, and then he changed his mind and wanted a different turbo so wanted to trade me back my old turbo that I sold him for other parts that I had and i was getting to annoyed so I finally stopped responding and told him I dont have time for his shit. Tell the guy that it is HIS car now so leave you alone and use something called the INTERNET to find his answers.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
guide him towards researching on his own. That's what I had to do. Research, REsearch, RESEARCH. You did sell it AS-IS, so at this point, you don't need to help that much instead guide him to VFAQ or to Tuners or someplace where he himself can learn much more about these cars.
I know some people who come into the DSM world thinking it's a Honda...no...no. It is not a Honda and it does not have a VTEC solenoid. *sighs* |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
The forums are here for a reason :) Tell alpha not to be shy, start a project thread, and let us help. Cars get sold as-is all the time and getting pissed off to no end isn't going to help anything, at least not in the long term.
Accept what you bought and deal with it. DSMs are endless project cars. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
I wish a noob would partout a nice gvr4
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
This is why I won't sell DSM's anymore. With other cars, the buyer might go out and beat on it right out of the driveway, with DSM's, it's guaranteed.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Ive been on both ends of that one. Neither one is good, but at the end of the day its HIS car now and not yours. Therefore its HIS problem not yours, it sucks but at the end of the day its just a car.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
This is why n00bz shouldn't buy modded DSM's. Unless you were shady with him, the car is now his responsibility and is no longer your issue. He needs to start a project thread and if help/guidance is needed then the members of this board will do so.

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
At the end of the day true it is my car, and it is my problem now. All i am saying is it would of been nice if you would of told me the intercooler was crap, and i had to fix it or pick up a new one. Second i guess i cant blame you for never replying to any of my emails asking to pick up the rest of my parts or inquire of the background of who put the motor together. Guess you take that as a nuisance. If you forgot i work as well, and go to college do you think it is FUN chasing after you wondering why you say everything on the car was fine yet the very next day there was OIL as well as Coolant under the car where it came from God knows im still figuring it out! Rebuild Motors poof out SO MUCH smoke that you cant breath around them well neither did i know that. Neither did i know that Burning Rich produces PURPLE SMOKE! Guess all the Carbon deposit will burn out since according to you that is what is causing my PURPLE SMOKE. Neither Did i know that The manifold you gave me would not fit after replacing it! Having to do it Twice. My car my mistake i should have known, and not takes someones word for it. Stephan i guess i could sit here and complain all i want its not gonna fix anything. If you don't wanna take responsibility for some of the mistakes you did that is fine. I guess you can say what ever you want about me. There are obviously plenty of people out there willing to help. So please i ask you to just give me the rest of the stuff so we can finish the deal of. Your wheels I AM NOT INTENDING TO KEEP YOU CAN HAVE THEM BACK!
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Why did you buy the car if its blowing so much smoke and leaving puddles everywhere it sits?
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Noob i am and willing to learn i better be since i do own a DSM now! You live to learn from your mistakes.......Its a DSM i wasn't expecting a flawless car.......but neither did i expect what i got...all in all i am happy with the car. It has a rebuild motor in it pretty decent body itll run like a champ soon. If everything is how you described the purple smoke will soon stop the vaccum leaks will be fixed when the new Mitsubishi injector seals come in on Friday. Everything will be just FINE! If not oh well ITS A DSM WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! So why sit here, argue about how you did this and that.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
personally i think it comes down to the buyer, if you dont know how to inspect a car, get someone who does.
there isnt a whole lot of people who wont let you poke all around the car before you buy. and if they dont let you, just dont buy. there is a general rule of thumb, cars always break when they change hands, even more so with older cars. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Good luck in resolving the issues. Purple smoke is more than likely oil though so don't expect that to clear up. IMO the OP at least owes some answers to Alpha D regarding who rebuilt the engine, etc.
When selling a used car please be as up-front and honest as possible. When buying a used car, especially a modded one, be sure you know exactly what you're looking at and ask the questions that require detailed answers. If either party is getting a bad vibe then just walk away. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Thats the thing though there wasnt anything at his house, when i towed the car home because i didn't think it would be smart to drive without a windshield and it RUNNING SUPER RICH according to stephan, we did not DRIVE THE CAR! I refused to move it untill i fixed the stuff that was wrong with it. As soon as we jumped the car since the battery was dead SMOKE JUST STARTED POURING! Ill post the vids to entertain some people later on. I sat there like O_O cough cough well itll all stop soon you guys dont worry 3mins later black fluid shooting out the exhaust im like oh hmm i guess this is the carbon deposits he was talking about.....turned it off let all the smoke clear started it again smoke goes white then to purple now i know something is not right. I always thought RIch running cars produce black smoke, but with a little research they tend to smoke white to sooo that leaves me with two options EITHER IT BURNS COOLANT and im screwed or its because its rebuild and its all good it'll stop soon. Yet the magnitude of the smoke was just significant not to mention it was bluish purple....

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Thats true the car i guess might brake if i turned The BOOST UP TO LIKE 22PSI and just DROVE IT LIKE A FOOL! But it was not driven IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN DRIVING BECAUSE I AM MISSING A FEW IMPORTANT PARTS! Like axle support bolts which hopefully i will get from stephan tomorrow. As well as a new side mount intercooler kit ( If any body would like to sell me theirs ^_^ send me a PM) All in all I am still in My Budget that i planned so im not crying! I was just hoping (which is where i went wrong! DSM Doesn't show mercy) that the car will run as soon as i fixed the stuff that was wrong!
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
i was under the impression there was a test drive involved, personaly i would just take somones word about these cars unless i really knew them well.
sorry to hear about your mis-fortune, and i hope everything works out for the best for you |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
I never accused stephan of lying or being shady well i did just a lil not for lying though! People might not understand I love DSM i just really do i always wanted one. I thought i could trust people of the forums he seemed so legit i still think he is to some extend. HE JUST FREAKING MESSED UP on explaining crap its the only way i can put it! I mean THERE WAS NO NEED TO THROW THE VALVE COVER ON CRAPILY HAVING OIL COMING OUT OF IT! IF YOU ARE SELLING A CAR MAKE TIME FOR IT ANSWER ALL MY QUESTIONS! I dont know how many times i can say it you guys are right it is my fault for buying my car no one held a Gun to my head and forced me to buy it, but this should prove to be a good lesson for everyone that is a noob that does not know a CRAP load about DSM's like KRACKA, Push it 2.0 and all you other DSM lovers. Make sure you take your time before you buy a car! I think things like that should not tear the Mitsu style community apart. I mean i dont get this kind of support on MNSC and other forums. I like Mitsu Style. Yet i will say it and continue to say stephan carries some fault as well.

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Nope just the good old Hand shake ill take your word for it. Stephan is known, his brothers are known! He seemed like a nice kid not out to scamm no one! He has a nice VR4. Yet that doesnt mean the DSM he was selling was a DIME IN A DOZEN. If what he says is true there shouldn't be any more problems right....? Ok then!
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
well, you did buy it As-Is. On the "plus side", i guess, hopefully the rebuilt engine will be good for you. If you need parts, ask around and it'll gradually come. I just went to the junkyard about a week ago and saw a FWD turbo auto 1g. still had the side IC when i checked, turbo, head, manifold is gone though. enjoy your dsm and your stay and I'm sure we'll help out with your issues as much as we can.
EDIT: Mitsustyle is nothing like mnsc. |

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
as for purple smoke never heard of it or seen it out of a car. a car running rich enough to smoke it will be black, burning coolant is white smoke, and burning oil is blue smoke. as for the rebuild if it isn't from a reputable shop or someone known for knowing how to rebuild engines you really don't know what your getting into. just because someone takes it apart and puts it back together doesn't mean it's done right.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
to weigh in on this... Im almost opposed to buying a car that has ever been modified. Not that I want to break a car's mod cherry or anything, but 95%+ of people haven't a clue what they're doing and do really crap, haphazard work. They ignore basic maintenance and slap mods on it.

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Alright, here's how I'm going to state this. One time.
The longblock and head are from a colt part out in the sale threads back in summer. When I sold the car, it was blowing some nasty smoke, due to what I thought to the best of my knowledge was a boost leak. Sold the car to him, he he finds a coolant leak here, and the sidemount is leaking. Coolant leak, I have no idea how that formed, because when I had it it was dry in my garage on the ground, no coolant. Sidemount leak? I was not aware it was leaking to begin with. In short, what I'm saying is. I sold the car to the best of my knowledge knowing what I knew when I sold it. It was sold AS IS. I didn't mask any problems with the car, and I'm certainly not mad at Alpha D at all, don't get the wrong impression. He and I are working this out. Alpha, we're still cool, I'm just a little agitated when you contact me at work or school. I'm more than willing to help you with what I know via PM's. From now on, lets keep this to PM's. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be an ass, I just don't want to be texted all the time at school and work. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
I read that dudes post and it made my head hurt.
(Don't we have a ban hammer smilie) (Didn't we used to have a ton of smilies?) |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
If you wanna sell that VR4 chim, let me know that car is gorgeous.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
I didnt even bother reading Alpha D's replies, becuase they look like a 5 year old typed them. Frick.
Car was sold as is, he should have checked it out more thoroughly. He could have done a compression test, boost leak test, checked for leaks, etc. Stop bothering the dude. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Fact of the matter misunderstandings happen. Both sides didnt feel treated fair. We are resolving everything properly now. I will leave him alone ones i know everything there is to know about the motor. Or anything he is willing to share. If he chooses not to cooperate that is his choice.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
I recommend you make a project thread with all the info on your car so we can start helping you get all this sorted out, and hopefully the seller will be able to chime in with answers too.
|
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
most important fact: the car was bought AS IS. Seller's word or not, it was not running when you got it and if you go through with a deal like that you have to expect there to be monumental problems.
Side story: my brother wanted a dsm really really bad. I found one for him, it was $500. We bought it, brought it to rick shindley because it had 'just popped the timing belt' and we thought it would be an easy fix to get back on the road. Long story short, we ended up scrapping the car and keeping a few parts out of it: the tranny, some electronics and interior pieces, etc. Head was absolutely fried, turbo was shot, axles were junk and the suspension was broken. What a joke! But we got what we paid for ;) SO. Make a SPECIFIC list of current issues with the car in a project thread. By specific, I mean: It's leaking coolant. From where? IDK, let's find that leak! It smokes. What kind of smoke? From where? It leaks oil. From where? Intercooler is shot. How so? There, make a SPECIFIC list of problems, and work through them one by one. Keep tackling problems ONE AT A TIME until you either have no more, or need to add more to the list. Prioritize and re-prioritize as needed. And lastly, clean up your posts. Seriously go back and read what you wrote and it looks like a fifth-grader wrote them. There are rules about this, and this is your warning. No one can help you if they cannot understand you or don't want to bother reading what you wrote. |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
It was a non running dsm. You will have to lean how to fix them and keep them running right. It take's time but you can get it all right with help from all the guys on style. Next time you will know what you are getting into.
Hell all my dsm's I have owned and still have were non running or had major problems with them and all were under 500.00. All but my spyder I bought that new off the lot and that has been sitting apart for 7 years now. the problems that I bought and still have the 89 hatch had no engine 300.00 the talon had a bad engine it was also a 2.0 n/a to start with 500.00 the 95 mirage coupe had huge rod knock 150.00 the evo had blown head gasket, tranny only in reverce. 35.00 to transfer it to my name. I have spent tens of thousands on all my cars to bring them back from the dead and build the shit out of them. Fix up your dsm the right way and it will treat you right. I have been d.d. dsm's for over 10 years now and the wife's d.d. is a dsm. They hold up just fine just keep up on it and it will last |

Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Every single dsm that i have owned has had issues. But thats what we sign up for when we buy them. Regardless of whether he told you or not about the coolent leak, Almost ALL dsms Leak coolent. Its mainly from old rubber hoses cracking or the seal on the water pump. It happens, just grab a black light turn on the car turn off the lights and look for the glowing liquid. Boost leaks are one of the most common problem with DSMs ESPECIALLY the shitty side mount. They always leak. They are built to leak. Get a new used one or upgrade to the FMIC.
The purple smoke is likely white, or its one of those cool exhaust systems that puts purple powder in the catalyst to make it puff purple smoke, made by the same manufacturer of scorchers and those tires that burn red or blue smoke. WOOOOT But seriously, its a DSM, use this site or VFAQ to solve all of your problems. My 96 just needed a new radiator, which i replaced before i took ownership, drove it home just fine, ($1000 woot) |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Thank you for the light idea. I know its a DSM not a Honda which i understand. Thank you guys all for the advise, opinions, as well as support! I will start a project thread as soon as i can.
(I never knew they made exhaust like that interesting.) |
Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.
Ouch goodheart i better get my post's cleaned up since you would like to see me banned!
