Cone Dodging = good fun!

Some of us attended the MAC novice school this past weekend. Here's some pics I stole from others that were kind enough to share.

Rosey was an animal! His car sounded and looked so hawt. Rosey's best was a 31.34!

Me piloting teh Dizzevo (thanks matt d!) Once dry, I ran a bunch of runs in the mid to low 30's, finally a best of 30.06.

cheering section in background! you guys helped me go faster, I swear!

Nice shot of anna's car leaning a bit! Note dizzevo in background LOL! She was running nice and easy 38's until an instructor got her to turn off traction control and put her foot down! Dipped into the 33's.

She's tuning hard here! That black 350z in the background is ty's car, he ran a 30.1!
http://www.scheides.com/albums/AutoX...1324.sized.jpg

Racheal was screaming that supercharged mini, sounded so awesome! 32.4 was her best IIRC.

Tons of fun! If you haven't tried this, def check it out!

Thanks for posting up the pictures scheides! I have a couple videos of rachael and I that im upoading onto youtube as we speak! Scheides was ripping it up all day, mattd's evo was sounding beefy on those cams!

We've talked about running a test and tune this summer for fun!

Keep in mind that this is after Anna stated last year, and I quote, "We don't autocross."

I'm glad you all had fun and have changed your mind about cone dodging. :)

Hope to see you guys at some points events this season ;)

Course looks identical to last year's, and there's a lot of tricks to making it work for you instead of against you. Evo guys... first gear, I hope?

2nd gear is quite a bit quicker on that course, 1st gear becomes like a switch and it's pretty difficult to modulate the power, especially with a low traction surface like that.

Re: Cone Dodging = good fun!

Glad you guys had fun, I really enjoyed the class even though it was raining all day last year. I agree 1st would be difficult, still in good powerband in 2nd for those smaller turbos.

What was quickest time of the day? What type of car?

I'm pretty sure Scheides had FTD, though it was with a cone. Ty (Brandon's friend) with the black 350Z had a 30.1 I believe, couple other cars right around there too.

Keep in mind that my car has sticky street tires, stiffer springs and an aggressive alignment. That is easily enough to make the 1 second gap between Scheides and Rosey.

ah man that looks so fun. MattD, what kind of tires you got?

He runs Kumho XS, 255 wide I think.

It isn't just a bunch of lame homos playing in a parking lot after all, is it? ;)

I had the only dsm there. Time to get a real alignment and I'm thinking some new tires. I was happy to keep up with Rose's evo time!! After watching Scheide's rip it up with the Evo, I'm some what jealous of 13yrs or suspension R&D. Those Evo's friggen move!

It was also fun to get the ride alongs with some of the instructors. Also let them take my car out for a couple runs, to which they agreed that I have a dsm which drives extremely loose. fun times for sure!

Any pics of my car?

Results are in, results are in! I let us down. Sorry dizzle, I nicked two cones on my best run :( Damn close to having your car come back for its second win of novice school!

Racheal's are goofy, because rosey's buddy borrowed her car, so the first and third set of runs are him, 2nd and 4th are hers.

Re: Cone Dodging = good fun!

Sweet times!!! Bummer you hit a cone on that fast run!!

Yeah Rachaels are messed up cuz our friend got there ready to drive his C6 vette and when he pulled into his parking spot after tech noticed that his front tires were cored on the inside :(.... so we offered up the mini so he could still race. We messed up and didnt switch numbers around... oh well ... i think its split like this ... 1-9 Spiegs 10-17 Rachael 18-27 Spiegs 28-37 Rachael. But i think some of his runs didnt get counted in the mittle there somewhere.

Kinda a bummer the groups werent more evenly divided... group 1 got about 22 or so runs and groups 2,3 got between 15-17. Lots of fun though!

It was fun watching your car, you were sidways way easy!

As far as keeping up with me.. you bested a 32.199.... I think Rachael in the Mini did a better job of keeping up with you at 32.471!! ;)

My last run of the day was a 31.3 on the clock...?? Ya, this car was a very interesting ride, one of the instructors rode with and said she was holding her breath for have the time or more. It certainly was fun though!

You were looking super fast in the Evo!! Nice driving!

How many cones did you kill though? Don't forget to add 2 seconds for each one.

Re: Cone Dodging = good fun!

32.1 is pretty good for a DSM, last year was a downpour, and I ran a 32.2 clean, 32.0 with multiple cones and multiple times sideways in the 2G. I think Asshanson ran a 31.8, and his car was pretty much a full SM build.

I'm looking forward to see how much you guys improve over this season, for those that're going to continue.

Ya, but the time on the clock still shows up on the paper dosnt it? Or did that not show up at all? I dont have excel so I cant look at the times.

My car might be a bit more SM than Asshanson's

I dont think runs can be really compared year to year. The fastest run put down all day including instructors was in the 28/29's.... and hughes said the evo's were in the 29's when he did it. I know the course is the "same" from year to year, but im sure its a little different here and there.

Nice work if you did run that! Just looking at the time sheet your fastest time listed was the 32.199 and that was with no cones.

There was one Evo in the 29's, me :) Matt was faster than 29's, but that's it for sub-30 second runs besides for instructors as far as I recall. Either way, the Novice School is about having fun and learning to be a better driver! Plenty of MOWOGs and Test & Tune events for racing. I hope you all get out and do it more.

Did the instructors have any of their full auto-x prepped cars out?

yeah ryan (mustgofaster) had his stealth out, fun! um quite a few did. Andres had his MR2, there was an NSX, a couple of the lotus Super Sevens (repilcas i think), couple miatas including a s/c one.

Great to see you guys had a blast and ended up being pretty quick! Especially Anna!

Instructor cars: one of the Seven was a replica the other (yellow) was an original.
I had 2-3 runs in at 29.5 and one or two into the higher 29's. Andres's MR2 was FTD of the instructors in at a mid to upper 28's, a bunch of diffrent people drove it.

Agreed, you have a better suspension and MUCH better turbo than me (for autox). I doubt you can really compare times between years, sure the course is similar but a couple slight changes could add a second or two.
