AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
|
Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
In my opinion still not as bad as T-mobile. They did the exact same thing, but have been advertising it as the "largest 4g network in America"

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
Now ifd AT&T couls just make it so you could actually make a call with out dropping it, they would be on to something.

*Call ended.* Yes, I have AT&T through work as do about 30 others nationwide and most everyone has experienced dropped calls. |
Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I might be lucky only time I had dropped calls were on my phone that only connected to the GSM network. I have the Samsung Captivate now and haven't had any problems with dropped calls.

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I really havent had an issue with dropped calls on my iPhone and I'm down south where reception with anything other than Verizon is pretty tricky. I'll admit my Sprint phone does tend to get better service in my area than AT&T.

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I used to have sprint back in 2000-2002 and there service sucked/poor reception i hated it,but I have heard that they have since improved and a close friend of mine has the evo thru sprint and loves it, it also keeps up with his work verizon blackberry tour.
I've noticed AT&T getting pretty costly. I have also had dropped calls on occasion, its usually when i call other AT&T users. |

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I've had all the major carrier's for at least a year and switched to AT&T last spring. And of all the big players I have the best reception and least amount of dropped calls. Maybe it's worse in the cities than it is out in the country where I am.

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I think the slight comfusion is AT&T didn't just call its 3g network 4g. What they did is the same as T-mobile and are going with HSPA+ which is an advanced version of 3g and they are calling that 4g. To use this network there has to be a special antenna in the phone or other device. So phones with the current 3g antennas in them will not be able to utilize the faster speeds on the HSPA+ side of things but as more people move to devices that can it will free up some bandwidth on the 3g side of things and actually make it a little faster.

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
But it's not the actual 4th generation. It's still 3g+ and not 4g.
Either way, lulz. Verizon sales++ banking on the general public not having any idea of the differences between cell infrastructure . |
Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I have an iPhone 3GS with At&t and have not had one dropped call; the service from any of the big providers is sketchy in some areas. You really have to go to their local maps and see what coverage best suites your needs and locale.
I have friends who have Verizon and T-Mobile, there are places where I have service and they do not, and visa versa. Seriously there is no company better than any other in my opinion. In a 100% 3G environment it really is faster than any othe provider as far as data goes, you know that commerial where the guy in the car gets the funny message faster than his friends. Well that happened to me recently at a hockey game, we all got the same 'make fun of the Green Bay Packers' forward, and I was watching it before theres every even got close to downloading the attachment. But again I had full bars on the 3G network, if it was on the 'Edge' network it would have been close. One had Sprint and the other had Verizon. Both had Blackberry's. |

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I work for AT&T and there is nothing I hate more then this 3g/4g talk. Then the assumption that because the iphone 4 should automatically be a 4g phone? It's all one big headache.. My view on why they want to rename the 3g network is because in comparison our 3g speeds are basically on pace or better then say for example sprints 4g. Verizon isn't much better. The LTE service is going to have a cap at 100mb, that is pretty amazing IMO.
This all is a conversation that could be argued about forever. It's just like a Ford/Chevy - Evo/Wrx etc.. everyone has their loyalty and what the consider the best. The numbers tell the tale. |

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I'm saying overall I hear the 4G brought up in so many different ways its unreal. I don't think I could ever go to a verizon iphone, say goodbye to voice and data at the same time. I use that feature a lot actually. I had someone drop the bomb today about switching because they couldn't upgrade for another 3 months. Then they dropped the verizon iphone bomb and how they should just go there. I basically agreed with them, slower speeds, no voice and data, no rollover minutes etc.. Go right ahead! :wank:

Re: AT&T Renames Its 3G Network a 4G Network
I have never had a dropped call within the last 4 years. But thats because I use a landline and never had had a problem. haha
