Find me a car! $7k max?
So talking to my agent/claims person, it sounds pretty likely that my car will be totalled.
After owning the civic for almost a yr, I can say it was nice to have a car that was reliable, got great MPG and had power everything (even moonroof) But it was uncomfortable and still painfully slow, a big improvement over the 70whp of the ranger, but still pretty bad. I don't want to get too crazy because I still would like to get an evo someday, but its not on the top of the priority list at all. Right now I'm thinking something like a '02 maxima, comfy, loaded features and plenty of power. I have also been told that they are extremely reliable and last a long time. I'd like something that will last a very long time. Feel free to post links/ideas. Thank you. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Come visit me at WBL Mitsu, I'm sure I can find you something for under 7k.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Id stick with a 4 cylinder and Japanese. Gas is only going up, and you drive a ton. Maxima probably wont get anything past mid 20s.
Accord might be a good bet like you were saying before, seats are comfy. Possibly more than the owdee. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I agree^^^
Get newer style accord. Do they come in 4cyl? |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Insurance money + sell DSM = Evo.

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I was jealous of your Civic. I personally would rock another econobox if I were you. Civic, Elantra... What do RSX/TSX's run now a days?
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Oh crap! forgot about RSX! Do eeet! k20 baybee, crasie vtak!

at this point I'd give up some mpgs for power. It does make me smiles when I fill up though. I'm going to drive a couple of accords 4 & 6 cyl, and a few maximas and see what I think. Bah, I'm looking at econo boxes again. I forgot that is the point of this car, is too keep forever and get good MPG. Plus i want it to be a backup down teh road. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I hear ya, gotta find a good balance for what you are wanting. I like Maxima's nice cars, you must be hanging around Paul too much :) Just think you're going to take a huge hit on mpg. Bigger engine, heavier. There's so many options out there it's hard to suggest a couple. WHen I was getting out of the military, my goal was to pick up an affordable daily driver that was a balance of cost, mpg, roomy, comfort, not a rusty pos. I ended up with that green Galant and it did me well.

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Mazda3 is always an option, good handling and pretty reliable.

No seriously though... I got a 2000 Honda Accord Ex with leather for 5,495 if you wanna go the honda route again
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
How about a newer Tampontiac? A friend of mine has an '05 grand prix gt and gets 26mpgs on the freeway. Plenty of space, more then enough power to scoot from place to place.

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
That honda on White bears site seems decent, lower miles too. Check it out brown.

moar powah

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
My vote would go for the Maxima. Those were in my view before I had the GVR4. They had good power, especially the ones with the VQ35 engine, and decent gas mileage. Accords are damn smooth though. It's a tough decision. That or get a Acura TL if they're not too pricey.

Knowing brown, he doesn't want payments. The title also says 7k max

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I rock the escort over 90% of my driving, it's reliable and gets over 30+ mpg auto. A whopping 140hp at the crank, but it's actually not bad. You can get a nice one for around $3k, and probably sell it for close to that once you decide to step up to an Evo. The best part is we have probably spend less than $500 in maintenance over the past couple years, and there is zero chance to mod it, just a solid DD. Just my .02c.

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
You can get a lot of car for $7k a month.

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Thanks guys, I'll check out some escorts, my civic is only rated to about 127/107 and it was worthless.
The maxima gets the same mileage as the 6 cyl. accord 21/28 that's only about 4mpg less than the 4 cyl. accord. I just missed out on a mint 94 accord from NC, it had no rust and needed nothing at all. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Here's a couple cars under 7k you may wanna check out.
2002 Ford Escort 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2000 Honda Accord EX (has leather) That particular one isn't on our lot at the moment. But if you're interested let me know and I can get it here. 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara Bit of a gas guzzler but only has 86k miles 2003 Ford Taurus I took this one in on trade. It appears to be in pretty good shape. 2002 Lancer OZ Rally... the Corolla S of lancers. This one's also not currently on my lot. 1994 Nissan Maxima I might be able to get this one sent up from Rochester. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I personally would get the new style Malibu with the 4 cylinder. I have two friends that have them and they average 38 to 39 mpg. Plus I think they are great looking cars.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
i have a new malibu with the 6. i average less than 18. The 4 seems to be the better choice.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Hey Aaron, You can get a lot of car for that price, buy now before gas starts going up. The price on fuel efficient cars is going to go through the roof as the gas prices start going up.
4 door 4 cylinder cars, great market right now since some people are selling their winter cars for sports cars for the summer. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Why not just lease a new evo?

Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
ive got a 91 dodge stealth. 222hp gets around 27-28 mpg. 5 speed with 94k on the clock.
runs and drives great, just needs a clutch and im not asking much at all for it. |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
M3 convertible.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
An rsx base model is around that 7k price range. Hell I went from my evo to a $700 integra and don't really miss the evo to much. I love not getting gas every other day. I know there gay but srt4's get mid 20's for mpg and are decently quick stock and are really cheap.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
I was going to mention SRT4 or cobalt SS too.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
For some reason I cant see brown in either of those cars. hahaha Maybe if he gets a sideways hat.
|
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
Here is couple examples of cars you could find that's very close to what you are looking for all different segments, but all solid choices for durability:
2006 Civic 4 dr: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/da...917337918.html 2007 Mazda 3S - 82K - $6999 **note salvage title.. need to look it over big time* http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/da...922088420.html 2004 Acura TL - $7600 http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/an...910756103.html |
Re: Find me a car! $7k max?
