No lower timing cover, yikes. How many miles on it?

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

Looks like a hack job. Everything looks like it was put together in a rush. E85 with safc? Where did you get it tuned?

punxnotdead185 07-08-2012 11:43 AM

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

196k on the body, and I tuned it myself, as far as you acting like its a big deal tuning e85 on a safc, its a big no no to do it on gas in these cars because of the agressive timing and detonation, if you run corn you need the extra timing if you don't want to burn valves and melt pistons, imo anyone with an safc in a pump gas car is commiting a far worse crime in the world of tuning than me, and if you have any doubts about my tuning abilities it pulls good and hasn't given me any problems in a couple months and a friend of mines car with a safc tuning on corn with Jordan who used to work for MAP burnt his exhaust valves out during tuning and me and my friend had to revalve his motor for him so no one can say my car is tuned bad cuz MAP and or Jordan can't seem to do any better.

punxnotdead185 07-08-2012 11:47 AM

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

And as far as not having a lower timing cover I know quite a few people with dsms on this forum with nice cars that have run around for years without one with no problems

What kind of damage is the pole covering up in that photo? Judging by the other photos of the damage on the left side, I wonder what other hidden "gems" this thing holds.

Fuel lines on the rail are secured with hose clamps! That is definitely a safe option with base fuel pressure set at "70psi" and and "30psi of boost".

Looks like a hacked up nightmare. Not to poop on your parade OP, but I'd stay away from this thing.

CornFed2.4 07-09-2012 10:26 PM

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

Fuel lines secured with hose clamps thats common. I see that on alot of DSMs just like runing your no timing covers.

Seriously though your "tuned" on corn running 27psi with 650cc @ 70 base pressure.

Goat Blower 07-09-2012 10:54 PM

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

Wow, 97 psi on a Wally?

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

Lets just move this over to the general area then if this is going to be a conversation starter. If you don't like it move on then, yes it leaks oil, its a dsm, every single one I have ever seen looks like this, plus when I bought it the cams seals were gone and oil got everywhere. As far as the wiring the only two things that are messed up are the oil pressure sensor wiring and the plug for the cooling fan temp sensor. I hope the punctuation police will be satisfied with my feeble attempts to master the English language.

And when my buddy pulled up his wasnt all oily, and hacked.

Yeah, you definitely have only seen the crappy ones around here then.

Re: FS 1991 Talon Tsi AWD

Well that may be but it is miles better than when I bought it, the whole side of the car was black with oil, the engine compartment was far worse than it is now, none of the coolant sensors were hooked up and the wg was unplugged on pump gas with just a 2g maf and 550s no tuning, it had plugs that were 1 heat range hotter than stock, brakes were locked up to the point the throttle had to held half way down to get it to do 30 mph, motor was locked up from the oil filter spindle coming loose and dumping all the oil out on the ground, half the maf wiring was disconnected, a bunch of the ground effects were missing, ect. ect. ect. This thing is far better than it was then, my friend that I got it from was offered $1200 for it in that condition so I don't find asking twice that in running driving condition with a pretty much new motor and with working brakes and a way to tune it an obscene amount of money, I'm sick of people from on this forum coming to look at it and telling me as soon as they leave on the phone that I'm a dumbass for asking more than a $1000 for it, could have just said it to my face and taken your ass beating, I'm sick of all the people on here talking shit on some lame ass forum about a car they know nothing about, if you have such a big problem with some oil leaking then give me the money for a new valve cover gasket and I'll fix it being that I'm fucking disabled and don't have the money to fix it my damn self.

Trying? I'm sure I know more about building a fast setup than most people on this forum, I had a turbo GSXR tuned on 12lbs of boost on E85 and a twin turbo Supra and a turbo Neon R\T and a 00 R6 with almost every NA engine mod that could be done except cams, all just in the last year and all built and tuned by me, so I'm not just some noob that doesn't know shit. Would the setup be different if I could afford it? Yes, but I'm disabled and don't work and it is a lot better than when I got it.

You can afford to build all those nice cars, but you cant fix up a dsm to sell it?

Whoever offered you $1200 for it in that condition is a dumbass. I bought my white tsi with no leaks, running driving condition with rod knock of course for $800. And that was still too much for me. The gst I have now I bought for $1400 and it runs and drives perfect, rebuilt motor with 60,000 on it. And no sir, my car is not a "hack job." Everything is set up the "right way." I would have never bought it if I were you if it was in that bad of condition. maybe you should post a picture of the drivers side for everyone to see. And thats just the body, what else is wrong under the hood? You can try your hardest to get what your offering, but your going to have to find some dumbass to buy it. I wouldnt be posting it on this site. And also if this is such a "lame ass forum," then why the hell are you on here, you should be banned just for saying something like that. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Sorry everyone for the arguments, but the debate about this car is just way too much fun to pass up .

I'd concur. I've had almost 100 DSM's and over 1000 cars, I'm pretty familiar with current pricing.
