joel's build
It is winter so now it is time to pull the car in the garage and make some more power.
My setup as it sits now is very basic. Stock block Stock head Stock intake. Evo3 16g 3" Turbo back Fmic 950fic injectors 255 walbro fuel pump. Very simple yet very effective. I couldent have been any more happy with how the car performed. 349whp. Ans squeezed out a 11.95. Now for the plans over the next month or so. At the end of last year I beleave I either snapped a shift fork, or broke the shift rail to the trans is going to get sent out for a jack's stage 2 rebuild. The turbo as well was on its way out burning a little oil. So i am going to send it to turbo lab and have them rebuild it, and also put a 20g wheel in it. I have also accumulated someother thing as well. Mitsumoto radiator H11 head studs Head gasket Water pump Timing belt Egr block off. Now the only things I can really think of that I need is a set of cams, retainers, and springs. I am trying to make the car as efficient as possible with what I have. If you have any guess to what my next step is minus building the block please inform me. So I plan on taking some pics and posting them as it goes. I am sure I will be posting some questions after the engine and everything is removed from the car. Thanks. Joel |
Re: joel's build
You going to have TL put that extended tip billet 20g wheel in it?
|
Re: joel's build
SMIM!
|
Re: joel's build
349 whp is that dyno jet numbers or db? Iam guessing dynojet. You have any power goals? come spring time I want more videos of you beating down vettes
|
Re: joel's build
^This.
I know a white vette you can run..... |
Re: joel's build
Any reason you are going to run H11 head studs? I don’t see the point on your mod list. Unless you got them for a good deal. Also I would bump up the tranny build to a 2.2 hd so you won’t have to worry about maxng it out in the future.

Also to add to the list I have a stock rear bumper, and side skirts. Excited for the car to go back to stock looking. For the tail lights I have not decided if I want to tint the tails I have now or just get a set of oem. |
Re: joel's build
That's awesome. 298whp and walking C6 Vette's and running 11's. I know of another white c5 vette you can run if you come on the spring cruise.
|
Re: joel's build
I am always down for some highway runs.
I am very moderate on my HP goals. On DB's dyno uncorrected any where between 350 and 400, and 400 to 450 on a dyno jet. So shooting for 50 to 100 more than it sits now. I think with the 20G wheel and having cams I hope I can see gains like that. |
Re: joel's build
I would think so. That is a super fun power level. Especially if you start dropping a little bit of weight here and there.
|
Re: joel's build
Nice work on that C6.
|
Re: joel's build
Yeah buddy! Glad to see you put a thread up.
|
Re: joel's build
Just a pic of some of the parts I have. Still need cams, springs, and retainers.

Re: joel's build
Well I just found something that will help my down time.
My original plan was to take out my trans, and send it out to jack's trans to get a stage 2 rebuild. Then I found this. He is going to send it to me for $1600 shipped to my door with a 4 spider diff. So I personally think I am coming out on top. I am going to sell my trans and good diff as a core. Transmission: Built 2G AWD Transmission with TRE 4-Spider Center Differential (TRE Stage 2.5 rebuild by ATX Motorsports, see: http://www.teamrip.com/WHAT%20HAPPEN...20REBUILD.html) - $1600 - Complete Trans Overhaul - New Gears, Hubs, Bearings and Slider 1-4 - New Syncros - Double Synchro Second - Torrington Bearing Upgrade - 4-Spider Center Differential |
Re: joel's build
So you're getting a TRE trans or what was that bit about ATX whatever?
|
Re: joel's build
Its a tre rebuild parts assembled by atx is what I understand. It is under the part out section on tuners.
The partout car was a shop car with under 1000 miles on everything. The seller is "v-tec this" and from what I can tell is a reputable seller. |
Re: joel's build
I believe she's a chick and just buys cars for cheap then flips them for a pretty penny. I'm not sure I would believe the mileage that is actually on the trans but the sooner you get it in and find out it works or doesn't for buyer protection the better.
She does have a very good reputation though so it's possible that the part is in good working condition and is exactly what she says it is. |
Re: joel's build
Yeah she is good shit to work with.
|
Re: joel's build
this is what she sent me.
The transmission is a TRE Stage 2.5, what TRE now calls a Stage 3 transmission. TRE renamed the Stage 2.5 transmission to a Stage 3 transmission. The transmission was built by ATX Motorsports using TRE's parts |
Re: joel's build
New parts are always nice to look at! I've seen that person list all kinds of stuff on the link forums and never heard anything bad.
You plan on tracking it at all again this summer? |
Re: joel's build
Yeah once or twice. Not planning on going to much. just to put down a number and see how much improvement there was over last year.
|
Re: joel's build
im very interested to see what that billet 20g does, im currently running a turbolab 20g but not billet
|
Re: joel's build
What are you puting down? Just interested how much more then the evo3 16g I have now.
|
Re: joel's build
Well my car is a subaru, it makes less than a evenly modded evo or dsm, and lags like a bitch because of all the preturbo echaust. Lol I put down 340 awhp at rs motors ron's dyno reads pretty low, its close to 370 at map(very rough guess) this is also a stock motor on 22psi external wg, full tbe, mellow e85 tune, biggest topmount intercooler I could fit under the hood, and more I can't think of
|
Re: joel's build
As I am still a noob I have started thinking how I want to tackle all the things I want to do to it.
Water pump, timing belt, cams, head gasket, head studs, and replace the transmission. Would I be better pulling the entire engine, or doing the work in the engine bay. What are your thoughts/opinions. |
Re: joel's build
ive rebuilt plenty of dsms already!
Taking the motor out is a simple 2 hour at most process and makes working on everything way easy! I could help you if ever needed i have all the tools and knowledge to get it done right! |
Re: joel's build
I would pull the motor. It would make life alot easier with the motor and tranny out of the car.
|
Re: joel's build
Yea if you're doing that much work I'd just yank the motor/trans together. Wouldn't take that much longer and would make it much easier to work on
|
Re: joel's build
I agree with motor and tranny being pulled. Much easier
|
Re: joel's build
Sounds good. When the car is getting worked on I will post up, and if anyone is board they can come hang out, watch, or even turn a wrench if they would like.
|
Re: joel's build
looks like a nice setup! If you're not to far away I could probably give you a hand sometime if you want
|
Re: joel's build
I am located right between wyoming and east bethel. Just so you know.
And I know this is a very broad question. Do you think my stock bottom end will handle 400+ wheel hp? If so how long? Just asking to see if people have personally had experience with the stock bottom end. |
Re: joel's build
Yeah that's not that far. My car is in Wyoming. Let me know if you ever want a hand. If I'm free ill definitely come help.
6 bolt or 7 bolt? The 6 bolt will handle 400whp with no problems as for a 7 bolt not sure. I've never dealt with a 7 bolt before. |
Re: joel's build
Ah snap, didn't realize you were in the area also.
|
Re: joel's build
Quote:
7 bolts with the split main can handle more but i don't think much more than the 95-96. But i've heard of 350-400whp dyno jet with no problems they just have thinner rods than the 6 bolts thats the only faulty part. |
Re: joel's build
It will hold that power just fine, It's all in the tune.
|
Re: joel's build
Cool. I have another question. Are all 2g rear ends the same gear ratio? I found out after the fact of buying the trans it is out of a 95 talon. All I should need is a 95-97 t-case?
|
Re: joel's build
I believe that is correct. Make sure the trans/xfer case match, rear diff shouldn't matter.
|
Re: joel's build
Yeah the only difference in the rear is auto/5 speed. Just match the t-case with the yr of trans you bought.
Positive note. You can now use the 91.5-96 so they are alot easier to find Did you get your trans yet? Car in the garage? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK6d-BFMW84 this will show you how to check |
Re: joel's build
I have the trans at my house. Still waiting to get in the garage.
