Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

Why don't we all drive these for DD's? Seriously $12k for a brand new car, that's redonk!

Sorry this is not an ad for WBL Mitsu but it came in the mail yesterday and I was a little intrigued...I mean for basic cheap transportation, this has got to be pretty tough to beat!

You get what you pay for.

it's tempting to just lease for the $59 a month... driving 7 miles to work, all back roads if wanted, this would be the ideal pile on wheels to spend 30 minutes a day in while keeping miles off something a bit more fun.

The lancer deals aren't horrible either.

For decent options and an auto it'd up to 15k, so many other nicer cars out there in my opinion. I'd rather have a year old sonata with some room. Used civics and Mazda 3s are cheap too.

There's a million used cars I d rather have than a stripped out shitbox. There's a reason Mitsubishi is in the toilet.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

Yup, base manual for 11,999. And yes, they're exactly what you think you get for a car that costs 12k brand new. They're loud as fuck, they're they second slowest thing I've ever driven (second only to a Hyundai Velociraptor, non-turbo), they didn't do that well in the IIHS quarter overlap crash rest (none of the sub compacts did), and they lack some features (like cruise control in the base models).

But, they're cheap as fuck, and legitimately get 50+ MPG on the highway on pump gas. So there is that trade off.

Nice! Someone should buy one of these from Bobby and turn it into an epic project thread. Enough with this Lotus/Noble lameness, I want to see some fastidious activities in a little hatch!

Buy one up scheides, trade in that station wagon and throw a hitch on this lil nugget!

it's like a 2014 Geo Metro!

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

For driving 65 miles plus a day, I should really have one of these.

That being said, I don't think I can live with no AWD in winter anymore. I am sure this car is god awful in snow. My brothers New Elantra with how light the car is makes it completely useless in snow. That is the only reason I don't drive a cheap, light FWD car.

That being said, I am starting to regret not finding an AWD vehicle with better gas mileage. I'm lucky to get 24.

I don't think there is an AWD car that gets great mileage, the Taurus is the only one I can think of unless you find a 90's Civic station wagon. :D

The newer subaru's get 34mpg I think, which for an AWD is "great" imo.

Also, my gf's mitsu outlander sport gets 31 which is also good for a small suv I think.

But yes, its kind of an oxymoron.

I almost need a 3rd car. 1 hyper mile cheap fwd car, 1 AWD snow machine and 1 fun car.

A//// Guy 05-19-2014 12:22 PM

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

The cost savings on buying a 3rd car just for gas mileage would be negative lol.

There are a few that get 30s highway though, my old 2.0T audi got 33, 26ish mixed. The new subarus are also highway, so mixed would be around mid to upper 20s as well.

You guys should just get a bike for good gas mileage, I guarantee it'll be more fun as well!

Pretty crazy to think you can get a brand new car for 12k though

Id still have a bike for sure if it were safe to daily drive, dont want to risk it anymore.

A car like this can't be much safer, obviously more than a bike, but tiny cars like this make me nervous safety wise.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

Just have to ride like you're invisible and be careful of your surroundings and its pretty safe. Then its just up to you not to crash, which I shouldn't be giving advice on that one lol

Haha im not worried about myself its the idiots that dont watch for bikes that are the problem unfortunately.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

These things have navigation and can be loaded pretty good. ( I was meant to put that in my original post)

On a realistic note, it would be nice to have a warrantied car that would be driven a lot and have some comforts.

With that said, I'd pick up an older civic in the same price range, I looked at them when i was getting my BMW and they come insanely loaded from what civics used to be. (heated seats, nav, maybe remote start)

DAFUQ?

When I was using a Kizashi as a loaner last time my car was down, I was getting like 34 highway, and about 29 combine.

lead foot?

Dunno man. The best I have ever gotten was 26.5 or so on a roadtrip.

Average is 23-24.5 area mixed driving lots of highway.

Worst is 22.

I got 31mpg going 80 in the 335XI coming back from new glarus :)

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

These things became like the Eclipse; completely different from what they originally were. All downhill. It would be cool if someone bought one and AWD swapped it with an Evo. motor.

I won't lie; it's so cheap I thought about getting one.

I'm still tempted to pick up either a used/off-lease Mirage or iMiev this fall to use as my bad weather beater.

It is werid, but i'd vote iMiev... either way it is a super basic, slow, and boring to drive.... but one of them you don't have to fill with gas.

Kracka 05-22-2014 09:49 AM

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

Exactly my thoughts. No gas, no maintenance besides cabin air filters and the occasional tires/brakes, and with my current commute I could get to work & back for an entire week on a single charge.

A//// Guy 05-22-2014 10:30 AM

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

Dont you have a long commute? This range seems pretty small, maybe 2 days to work and back for me on a charge. But still pretty cool.

Range Combined (EPA 5-cycle - official) 62 Miles
Range City (EPA LA4 cycle) 98 Miles

Cool specs though on paper, too bad it looks terrible lol.

Kracka 05-22-2014 10:44 AM

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

I moved offices in December so my roundtrip commute is now 13-15 miles depending on route. My old commute was 31 miles roundtrip. Sounds like worst-case I'd be able to get only 4 days of commuting on a single charge, best case all 5 plus a few extra errands.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!

I can confirm that "likely to include" thing. The PEV (Partial Electric Vehicle) Outlander is slated to hit the US in MY16 (late 2015). It was hoped that we would see it for MY15, but with an overwhelming demand in the EU market, they delayed it for US release.

The Montaro will also be back as a full sized SUV in the next 3-4 years, and MAYBE the L200 aka the truck version of the Montaro.
