After all the abuse...

3 Attachment(s)
My motor finally went boom! Looks like the number 3 rod got sick of pushing the piston up and down and decided to brake in half putting a nice size hole in my block and bending some valves.

Re: After all the abuse...

FUCK, that's gotta suck. And to think you tossed 40psi at it less than a year ago and she took it like a man!

Nash 05-03-2005 02:17 AM

Re: After all the abuse...

And to think it went while I was only running 15psi. It was just quick pull in 1st that did it. I'm suprised that it lasted this long. Stock bottom end and all!

I assume a full race built engine will be going in now? I for some reason don't believe your sig.

Nash 05-03-2005 02:23 AM

Re: After all the abuse...

Build 2.4 is what's next. Guess I can join the cheaters club. My sig is that I quit smoking.

Question is if you'll outlast Allan. :D

Sucks to hear about the engine, but even you said it wasn't going to last forever. There's always bigger and better things. :)

I hope I outlast Allan. I don't ever want to have another smoke.

I was actually laughing after I got the car into a parking lot and opend the hood to see a nice chunk of my block sitting up near the intake manifold.

Yeah I was wondering about the quiting I heard it blew up... though you were done with dsm's. Good luck with the future build.

Nice hole in the block. I guess I should build a 2.4 now as well.

Was that Patrick's (I think that's his name) old shortblock with the 2G Pistons?

slowHonduh 05-03-2005 09:34 AM

Re: After all the abuse...

Sucks to hear that Nash. Is this the same block from last season/year? If so, holy shit for it lasting this long. If they could have only made the rest of the car as strong as the motors are.

2.4 sounds like a good choice. "Get er done" :)

That sucks man.
It's amazing it lasted as long as it did!

Side note... Congrats on quiting smoking. It's been over 5 years for me and I still want one every day

Wanna buy a 95 7 bolt block?

Shane@DBPerformance 05-03-2005 11:35 AM

Re: After all the abuse...

If you need any random parts like stock valves or whatever that we might have laying around, let me know.

JET 05-03-2005 12:04 PM

Re: After all the abuse...

We should have the valves covered. All of them in #3 hit pretty good. Hopefully it didn't damage the seats. That thing has been on borrowed time!

Raptor 05-03-2005 12:35 PM

Re: After all the abuse...

Just got my seat grinder already had the valve grinder. so if they are not too damaged, we have that covered as well ;)

Was that your daily driver too? All the abuse on the dyno plus DD I knew it would only take some time but I never thought it would last this long!

I just got home and its still in the driveway. But yeah that motor had seen its day, I would have liked to know the compression though before it blew to actually see what it was at.

CRAIG

Nash 05-03-2005 05:47 PM

Re: After all the abuse...

The motor in the car is the one that came with the car when I bought it from Patrick. And the car is my DD, or kind of I guess. I hadn't been driving it all that much since Jet was letting me use the Nissan. I already have a 2.4 block it's sitting up at QPR. Now I just need to save some money so I can get everything else.

Thats a nice hole!! good luck with the new build.

Re: After all the abuse...

Well sorry to see it go. But hey at least it held the record for most HP out of a Stock 1G motor before her day was up.

2.4 - I'd call you a cheater but I know it's not. It doesn't matter do what you like.

From Nashes own mouth "a 2.4 makes the car no longer considered a DSM" your fired. LOL
Sorry to hear about the car, but at least you have your health. :)

bummer, but I figured it was coming. I expected it on that one dyno day, but fatigue does take time.

Then I guess for the 1st time in almost 7 years I won't own a DSM.

A little JB Weld and that rod can be saved.

Goat Blower 05-03-2005 11:44 PM

Re: After all the abuse...

That reminds me of when me and Mike Bertz were heading back from Slippery Falls after his repeated 30psi runs on pump gas and a stock 7-bolt. About 20 miles out of RF, I saw smoke in my rearview and him pulling over. We popped the hood and there was oil everywhere, smoke and a little wisp of a flame from the huge hole in the rear of the block just like Nash's. Doh, that sucks, but like every part failure, it's just time to upgrade the part. Now let's hope we don't get the rash of cracked cylinder walls that are plagueing more and more DSM'rs around the country with 2.4 blocks.

Was Hess' a 2.0 or 2.4?

I wonder if cryo treating blocks would made a significant difference with the cracking issues.

Re: After all the abuse...

I will have to let Patrick know what finally happened to his block. I am sure he will be happy to hear how long it held up actually. Shindley would be happy. LOL.

He was always happy you got his car Nash. He wanted someone who would actually make power in it to have it.

Highly doubt it. It doesn't take much for cast metal that thin to be punctured considering what hits it when a rod lets go.

I believe he is referring to the cylinders cracking under load and power, not rods beating the shit out of it...
;).
