Degreeing Cams

Anyone have any experience degreeing cams/ have the equipment to do so? Is it necessary?

I've been reading and a big discussing has been coming up. To degree my cams or not. I will be running a 6 bolt block wiseco HD 10.5:1 with eagle h beams and 2g head with Manley springs, comp 272's and stock valves thus far.
Previously I had 6 bolt with 1g rods 2g pistons and a stock head with the comp 272s in it with the cams not degreed on stock cam gears.
I don't want to run into any issues.

What are people's experience with this topic?

I found good results in degreeing cams. Knowing how far you can go +/- on your cams with out having piston 2 valve problems is worth it. Lots of things come in to play and it is time consuming for sure. I found about 7% more power having the cams where the manufacture wanted them.

I haven't just because I still run HKS 272's that are known for Installing straight up, but I remember the Brian Crowers and others needing it badly since they were so far off.

Did you degree them yourself?

Same here. I read lots of people with stock block and head not degreeing in their cams so I never did either. Now I'm running the higher compression it makes me more nervous to not degree them in.

I'm pretty sure Pushit2.0 John has helped a couple people on here degree their cams over the years.

Yes I did it myself and I use this kit.

Yes depending on your setup and machine work done getting your valve timing right can make a big difference on your power band.

Did that kit you mentioned work pretty good?

You will need a couple solid lifters to degree cams on a 4G.

That's what confused me about that kit.

Re: Degreeing Cams

I recently did this to our motor, not so much to determine the range i could adjust the cams before having piston contact, but more so I could verify my cam advance was where it should be with respect to the crank (factory specs), as well as verify the cam specifications with the cam card.

it is much trickier without solid lifters (if I did it again I would definitely use some), but I was able to measure what I was after.
