Cost effective and time saving tips for a complete re-wire
 

I'm asking for them. This will be the first logical step when I find a nice 2G shell down the road (a ways down the raod). I plan on gutting it 100% (I will do this) and then give direction on wiring everything in a simple, clean fashion.

I will obviously be able to remove a lot of extra crap that's not needed, but what will be some key things I want to watch out for, and some key components I will want to keep when doing this.

Goals for the car :

1 Rally Cross a month, 1 trip to the IA tracks a summer, and ability to be daily driven if needed.

The biggest factor i'm concerned with on the electrical side is controlling overheating and engine management. I don't want anything more than a wideband o2 and s-afc, but I think I may be stuck having to at least go with a DSM Link setup. I want it tuned, and done.

AC will be gone, all lights except the reverse lights will be controlled by switch inside the car.

Other than that I can't think of too much that will make this a pita right now. Time consuming yes, overly hard, no.

Seeking plenty of thoughts and opinions on this subject.

The best option is to strip the wiring harness out of the car. Then go through and analyze it and compare it to your factory wiring diagram. Remove the wires that you aren't going to use, and put it back in.
Making a new wiring harness when the car is still street driven and ran off a factory ecu is pointless.

I went through mine and rewired it all. Took me 11hrs but there is a lot less wires in the engine bay and the fuse box is now inside the car. I dont know if its worth it or not, depends on how much time and patients you have! Personally I would definately do it again, just for how clean it looks in the engine bay.

It was a pain in the ass but well worth it. You should do it.

Yep, I still have the 2G wiring harness available.

I also got a 1G one for my car since I planned on doing this when I have the time. You'll definitely want a couple of wiring diagrams or the actual factory Mitsu one, the Chilton's and such leave a lot of stuff out.

There's a LOT of extra crap wiring that's not needed once you start taking off worthless weight like AC, heater, driving lights, ABS, etc. I've taken out at least 15 lbs of wiring and I haven't even touched the main harness yet. Plus it's nice to put on a virgin harness that's not hacked up with all the different fuel controllers and gauges that have come and gone.
