Re: Roll cage build
6pt doesn't require the chassis to be certified so it will never be checked unless you want to go quicker than 9.99 or faster than 135mph witch will require a chassis certification .What's your goals with the car?
1.75 OD. .118 mild .083 moly |
Re: Roll cage build
My goal is 10s. I was thinking of starting out with a 4pt. Using 1.75x.120 DOM tubing. From what i read that shouldn't be a problem?

Re: Roll cage build
looking at some designs on the internet, 6pt wouldn't be to hard at all.
What are the suggestions if my goals are 10's.? |
Re: Roll cage build
I too am interested. I think the Talon will be getting caged. I think 6pt should be fine. The NHRA website has info about cages but not much and it's all conflicting with other information I've found.

Re: Roll cage build
You need a 6-point to run 10.0-11.49 or over 135mph IIRC, specs are on the NHRA website, or at least it used to be. The specs were always pretty vague, especially on swingouts.

Re: Roll cage build
Found some more pictures of a setup, there almost all similar in some way. I will hopefully be starting to build my cage next week, once I finish working in the trunk area.

Re: Roll cage build
The "D" bars need to go to a frame rail, which a unibody car does not have. So what we do is run a tube between the bottom of the main hoop, either straight above the tunnel or bend it so it fallows the floor, then weld the "D" bars to that. Also having 2 or 3 6x6 plates that tie in the floor structure at the main hoop floor connection is best. The tube size would be your standard 1 5/8" .083 wall DOM chrome moly or 1 5/8" .125" wall DOM mild steel, or a 2" x 3" .125" wall mild steel box tubing.

Pretty sure that white 2g's cage was made by Eclipsegst / Jake on this site. Brings back some good memories from those days
