Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I don't frequent this site much, but i am exhausted at work and can't focus so i figured i would start a build thread here.
Here it is when i first got it, outside hasn't changed really, shorty antenna is about it: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...lo26/photo.jpg Here is my first dyno at DB with catback/intake: AMS Intake Buschur Bullet Catback Also has my baseline with the mods: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...lo26/DAVE5.jpg Then came a UR testpipe and a retune: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/scan0001.jpg Then came these parts: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo3-3.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo-6.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo4-1.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo2-4.jpg And E85 retune: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...scan0002-1.jpg This is where the car currently is for power until next week. My fuel assembly after 6 months on E85 using DIY install kit, worked alright, wouldn't recommend. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo-7.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo4-2.jpg Now for the current state: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo6-1.jpg Clean and then dirty: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo9-1.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo8-1.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo7-1.jpg Me installing my new parts two nights ago...man it was cold. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo10.jpg catch can moved when new LICP went in. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo11.jpg Got rid of the hard plastic for the MR mesh on driver side. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo13.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo14.jpg Then off to MAP http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...26/photo12.jpg For these to be installed: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/photo6-2.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o26/photo8.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o26/photo9.jpg New Installs before retune next friday with Shane: AMS LICP AMS FMIC AMS Widemouth Downpipe Ported FPred with antisurge and FP porting and MAP coating Ported Exhaust Mani with coating Blaqops Double pumper, progressive based on boost Fuel Lab AFPR (maybe fuel rail). This is where I stand now...my mani is off and getting ported as we speak:) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Looking good!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Fucking sexy! The 4B11 really loves mods! Did you gain ~15 awhp just from the test pipe and a tune?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build

A sidenote for people not familiar with my build at all, still on stock clutch...and will be for a while on the FPred too, lol. /pray it holds until funds come. I think i might sell stock parts to pay for it, but would rather not, who knows. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Welcome, dude! More Evo Xs here isn't a bad thing.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Looks good can't wait to see the power!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
In blaine I see, welcome sir.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
^Yup, moved to Blaine from Plymouth last June.
I noticed that it is strongly recomended to post in the newbie section, or that is what it said there for your first post, lol. Ooops. Thanks for the welcomes, i will update the thread when more stuff comes in. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
What are your goals for the car?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Well 450 on DB's dyno would make me very very happy.
However this initial tune I am thinking 410-420 hopefully. I guess we will see. 500+ on MAP's is also a goal. No real goals, just a street monster I guess. I will be happy regardless I think. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
UPDATE:
I had an oil leak from the timing cover:( Apparently Mitsu has a TSB out for this, but I am obviously not going to take it to the dealer for this since I had cams put in...well that sucks. MAP is going to fix it, more expenses...man it keeps building up. I am going to be carrying some balance on my credit card for a month or two I think...owie. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
sucky dude. You think they will even notice the cams? (are they that smart?)
Thats a lot of power, I am expecting the same from my car, but I don't really care since its about what I want. That motor good for that amount of power? |

The 4b11t has held up to 700whp stock block. People are running 550-600whp without problems on a more consistent basis, so yea i think the motor should be ok. But there is always the possibility i am the lucky one, i guess we will see. |

Dave was at the MAP dyno day for those of you that were there. Dave, I find Style a lot more user-friendly for posting pictures. It tends to be more of a mechanic/DSM-oriented site. Overall a nice group of guys but ignorant ballers (pretty much anybody owning an Evo X) aren't granted much sympathy. haha. |

^He isn't talking about the fact they become a project.
DSMers are do-it-yourselfers, not dumb stubborn don't want to learn shit about car guys, well we used to be. Ended a few years ago, now everyone likes cars, i would say its the new cool thing to do. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
I say take the car to the dealership and see if they'll cover the oil leak under warranty. The more heavily modded you get the better chance you have of your warranty being voided so if you're going to do it, might as well do it now.
With that said, I had my car in at the dealership yesterday and they couldn't have been nicer about it. They didn't care at all about the mods and said they're going to try and get the issue covered. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
It's too late, my turbo and manifold are all off right now and they said it would take an hour max since it is on the manifold side. So they are going to fix it for me quick, they looked up how to do it. I am not too worried, it will all work out.

I just went and bought 200 bucks worth of tools etc to do the installs this week. Now I have more tools to do stuff next time. I am usually limited only by the tools I have, not the inability to do the job. My cams were really the only thing I didn't do up until this recent round. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
nice looking car and you have a good start on the upgrades.
now for a little ribbing. your car is a fucking tank just like the evo 8-9. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
Even cars that are well maintained and stock after 7-8 years can become projects. Things break down and stuff has to be fixed, such is life.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build
She looks great with all the new mods it is going to be alot of fun for sure. I can't even fathom what it is like to have that kind of power on tap for a DD.
If you take the stencil off the AMS cooler for a bit of understatment, it would be a stock appearing car with a big ole can of whoop ass! ;) Btw.. I am still on the stock clutch as well. *Crosses fingers* Hoping to make through the next season of auto cross launches! Maybe we should have a support group? |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
^Thanks for the offer, but my car will hopefully be done by May:)
However, once I start breaking stuff you can help, lol. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build
^lol, its cool. I've never owned a car with less that 60k i think i had an integra with 52k actually, but well it was an AT integra.
I think once you do a T-belt and it isn't a high mileage motor (160kish maybe) then its not too bad. Maybe someone can find a way to change these things to a timing chain. |
