Well at least it stopped there and didn't chew up the piston/cylinder wall! That is crazy dude, definitely one for the books!

Get this thing fixed asap!

I think the lifter collapsed and allowed the rocker to eject during a pull I made right before the misfiring started. There is a slight scratch on the cam lobe, but no other real damage I am planning on replacing the lifter and and putting the rocker back in, and hoping for the best.

So the car didn't self destruct? :blind:

No I'll take the blame on this one, even though I have no idea how the clamp got in there. It just seams like a DSM to be running perfect one minute the drop a cylinder the next. The car ran for over 600 miles with the clamp in the motor So I guess these DSMs are pretty badass.

Indeed. Frankly I think they are some of the best engineered cars from that era when you think of what we are asking out of the original design parameters.

I got the car all back together last night and it its running good again. I replaced the two valves (thanks Cornfed) cleaned up a few small dings in the head and the top of the piston and put it back together with new gaskets.

while it was apart I took the oppertunity to coat my exhaust manifold with the extream high temp header coating I got from Ling ling. I had my buddy that did all my powder coating sandblast the manifold, paint it and cure it in his oven. it turned out so good it was a shame to cover it with the heat shield.

Now I just need to fix my coolent temp sensor pig tail that has a loose pin in it and get my drag radials mounted and I will be ready for proving grounds.

Got a nice sized crack on the bottom side of the manifold.

Yeah I think that's been there for awhile. It doesn't go all the way through. The coating just makes it stand out. Mabey some day I'll step up to a FP manifold..

HAWT! Nice work man! So you didn't have to machine the head or anything, just slap new valves in? If so that's nutzo!

The seats had no visable damage. I think the seats held up because they are harder then the clamp was. I lapped in the new valves and they lapped in really nice. I rechecked the seats after lapping the valves and they were lapped in evenly so I figured I'd run it.

The day started out kinda ruff but got better at the end. After waiting fot the rain to clear out and getting no practice/ qualifying passes. I got disqualified the first round of eliminations. Because the car wouldn't make boost at the line so I took to long to stage. I Waited around and watched the rest of eliminations hoping they would have open testing after. They did so I made 3 passes first was 11.64@ 116mph I followed that up with 2 11.7s @ 117mph. All in all I consider it a good day since I drove the car there and back and raced with no issues. It was good seeing other members up there I will try to do better at PG13.2.

On a side note. Bald guys need the. Apply a 2nd coat of sun screen if they are going to drive home with the sunroof open. My head hurts.
