Hydrodipping Evo 8 Parts
I figure I should share this info I found here too. I found there is a shop near my place in Ramsey that does hydrodipping. I checked it out last week and discussed parts for my Evo and bikes. It's pretty much just like paint and takes on the qualities of whatever paint, high heat enamel, etc. It costs about the same as powder coating but gives the extra detail of airbrushing. He had some photos of some complicated parts that turned out awesome:

He took care of everything; blasting, prep, paint, and hydrodipping the parts. The dude's name is Zach Kurth, at Top Shelf Tires. I think he primarily uses his Facebook group, so you can check out all of his stuff there: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Top-S...76132389069911 Here are my pretty, new, old Evo 8 parts: http://i59.tinypic.com/2v0coea.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/nedx1v.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/dp8pw0.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/wmcdqt.jpg |

Looks good! Do they clear coat over it after application?

Re: Hydrodipping Evo 8 Parts
That's badass, glad the price is cheap too!
I'm def going this route. Any kind of warranty? How durable is this stuff? |

Re: Hydrodipping Evo 8 Parts
I have hydro dipped my mirrors and side skirts. Its awesome how well they match and hold up. I knew the owner of a shop and did lots of referrals there. I cannot recommend the process enough!

Re: Hydrodipping Evo 8 Parts
That is pretty cool, seems like it would make sense to have some mechanical arm or hydraulic slowly put the piece into the water though, so you could avoid the wavy lines from hand movements.
Seems pretty inexpensive compared to real CF or paint work, I may have to give a few interior plastic pieces a go at this, now to find someone in Des Moines who does this. |
Re: Hydrodipping Evo 8 Parts
Wow that looks great! I am going to have to look into that.
