Rim sizes?

Okay, I've done some research around here and I couldn't find what I wanted to know. If it's been talked about already, just direct me to it or just leave inputs in my thread here. I'm just wondering what's the best size rims and tire size to get for a 2g gst. The car is used for daily driving a some weekend fun at the tracks.

The best size is really up to you. Whether you want 16, 17, 18.....is really up to you.
Try picturing it on your car at tirerack.com.
My rims are 18x8 +35 offset. Tires - 225/40/18
It works, no rubbing.

Only thing I hate is the giant wheelgap, which is hideous.

From RRE - Wheels for the track. 16's or 17's.

If you aint rollin' on dubs then you just aint a playa now are you? Pffffff, chump.

18's looks great on 2G's and would probably be my choice (I am more into handling than I am drag, keep that in mind). 18x8 is a good size, but I'd go with a 245 width tire instead, just make sure it'll clear.

18x8 on mine. Can't remember the off-set at the moment though. Either 36mm or 41mm, or something like that.
Nitto N555 225/40/ZR18 tires.
Nicely fills in the wheel gap, that's why I went with what I have.

Re: Rim sizes?

As far as I am concerned the wheels only NEED to be big enough to clear the brakes, and I would never go more than 1 inch larger than factory size. Come to think of it, I never have gone over factor size wheels and probably never would. In my experience the handling benefit is effectively nil. Wheel weight, tire choice, and driver all have far more to do with it. Having a stiffer, shorter sidewall is not always going to be a good thing. In fact, from what I have seen in autox it tends to be a bad thing.

And if you are thinking about light track duty, your next thought should be AWD brakes.

CVD you are a smart man. I am actually going to get rid of my rims and rubber. I need something just big enough to fit with the AEM big brake kit. I think 17 will work.

I had 18x8s on my DSM that were very similar to Vicious's car. They looked awesome on the 2G but were not great for speed, they handled great but I could tell it made the car slower having to turn those big things.

The bad thing about this, is that if your car is a Daily driver, even for winter, your going to need them winter wheels to fit your brakes too.
Unless you just swap tires each season.

I went for 18X8's on my 2G AWD since I found a great deal and couldn't pass it up. it does fill the wheel wells better. My Motegi rims and tires are over all lighter and the the smaller tire size worked so the speedo was still accurate. I origally was going to stick with 17's for better cornering but at my current level the differnce is probably far more in my skill than my tires.
