SSQV BOV help

I installed a SSQV BOV w/ recirculation kit in my 1990 eagle talon tsi 5spd and took it for a drive but for some reason at full boost it would spike at 15psi then drop right back down to 10psi (I have my MBC set to 15psi). Anyone have an idea of why it does that? I think it has something to do with the SSQV but not sure.

Is your boost controller hooked up properly?

Re: SSQV BOV help

Yes I have my MBC installed correct. I ran 15psi with my 1g BOV just fine.

Re: SSQV BOV help

It is probably the vacuum line to the BOV. Make sure that is hooked up correctly. I am willing to be that you did not zip-tie the connections of the hose. They are probably blowing open, which will release the BOV and you lose your boost.

Re: SSQV BOV help

If it is similar to other aftermarket bovs you should be able to adjust how responsive the bov will be, wether it be by adding washers or turning an adjustment screw.

Yes, the SSQV has an adjustment bolt... impossible to miss.

Re: SSQV BOV help

Re-checking my vacuum line(s) for leaks might be a good idea. From what I read about the adjusting screw on the SSQV, all it does is adjusts the sound but don't quote me on that. That's justs what I found out on it.

Re: SSQV BOV help

Yep, don't listen to them. The HKS is of a different design than most BOV's. Don't mess with the screw.

Re: SSQV BOV help

Just checked my lines while at idle and no vacuum leak seem to be present. I would free rev the car and see if any air leaks at higher rpms but can't do that or else my neighbors gonna call the cops on me hehehe. Sucks living in a neighborhood sometimes :P.

Re: SSQV BOV help

You won't have a vacuum leak, just boost leaks. Trust me, if those lines aren't zip-tied, they will leak. I have an HKS also and we forgot to put one on once, it does exactly what you are talking about.

Re: SSQV BOV help

Oh really? Looks like I'd have to go back and zip-tie them all tighter and see if that solves my problem. Thanks for the info.

Re: SSQV BOV help

Why is it soo important to re-circulate the air? I guess the biggest downfall to it, for me, is that I don't get to hear the bov..

...and by the way, since you haven't formally introduced yourself in the Members Intro's forum, welcome to DSMStyle!

That and the poor idle combined with the tendency to stall out between shifts. To recirculate or not is the famous first Tooners question. General rule of thumb, don't vent unless you have a GM MAF in blow-through, or an AEM.

Re: SSQV BOV help

I think its just an hks thing. Mine does the same thing, spikes up to 20 psi then drops to 15. Sometimes when im like 3/4 throttle it will stick at 20, but if i go full throttle it will usually drop to 15 psi. Its done that since i got it.

Did you guys put the little filter in line? Mine works perfectly.

Re: SSQV BOV help

why are you switching the bov's anyway? I mean..doesn't your 1st gen still work? Or, can we actually hear the bov sound with these ones? See, I always thought that if you recirculated, you cannot hear it..

Re: SSQV BOV help

you can hear my recirculated bov just fine. Soon as you get rid of your air filter box, it'll become much louder. And the 1g will only hold so much boost. I too plan on getting an HKS one of these days.
