Where to go for Remote Start?

I want to get a Remote Start system installed on the Envoy, and wondering if anyone has any knowledge and where to go for it? I've never gotten this installed on a vehicle before so just want to get some good input on it before I do.

I know I can just go to Best Buy, but if there's a decent ma & pop store that does a better job, I kind of like those kinds of places as I feel they tend to take more pride and care in their work.

Anyhow, the only stipulation is I'd like to have the new remote to be able to lock/unlock the doors also so that it can replace my current OEM remote. That way I'm not stuck with two remotes on the one key chain. I don't care to have the big fancy paging remotes, just something simple with a couple buttons for lock/unlock the doors, and obviouslly one for starting the car remotely.

That's all, let me hear what you think!

I had one installed at Mach 1 about 4 years ago and they did a pretty good job. Price was reasonable, but I don't remember what they charged.

Pm craig. There is a car audio/custom shop that gets parts from his store. The guy is fast and has the best deals around. He told craig like 150.00 installed with power lock noids for Aly's dads truck. I just can't think of the shops name.

Do it yourself! I've done a few, it's really not that bad if you get yourself a wiring diagram.

Best buy did a good job on my Civic.

Talk to 311evo, he used to be (maybe still is) an installer for Best Buy.

Aftermarket remote starts are typically shitty quality and fail in a short time or start doing funny things. We fixed them all the time at the shop I worked at. (By removing them! lol) OEM ones are the best.

I love my clifford system. I've had it for five years and never failed. Well the remote broke once but that was my fault. Same make as Viper or any of the high end DEI systems.

Emily got a cheapo system and it broke after a year, I'd recommend buying a nice one if you do.

My friend and his wife both had remote starts installed in their cars at the Roseville Ultimate Electronics, both extremely happy with the units and the work done. My roommate works for Ultimate and helps manage the stores around here, you can bitch at him if you have any problems there. :)

Around where, Shoreview? That's not too far from me, I actually work in Shoreview. If you know someone there, that's always a plus to me (maybe they'll throw in a free donut or something :)

I had a Viper installed at Mach 1 quite a few years ago. Good service.

For future reference, I went here to http://remotelystartedmn.com/index.php

It's a guy out of his garage, but the prices are great and it only took him an hour to install. I guess he is shutting down for the season, but has someone he refers work to.

I was looking there as that was where I was going to get Katy's car done. But it says he's done for a couple months...? :(

Yeah, I asked him about it. He says he was getting slow and his other job is going over 40 hrs a week.

However, he has a friend that does the same thing that he is referring people to, my cousin also has a guy that does the same work with Python systems I believe if you want to try that route.

Not anymore, I worked at a custom audio/remote start place for about 4 years, and after a year at Worst Buy I had enough.

If you're going to get it done at a best buy though, the guys at the Minnetonka store (accross from the Mazaratti (SP?) dealership) are excellent. They do high quality work, and they do it quick. That's the only store I would trust.

No, they dont. I had to deal with a lot of dumbass dealerships that would blame everything on the remote start. I would remove everything for them, and then look! all of the problems are still there! Viper units for example are high quality and hardly ever fail. If something isn't working properly, it's an installation issue and not a hardware issue.

OEM remote starts are kind of a joke. They'll get the job done, but that's like comparing a Nokia from 1999 and an iphone/droid. They'll both do the main task, but one will have a lot more options/expandibility/uses.

I like the Compustar stuff. Seems like it's decent stuff, at an affordable price. So if anyone can recommend somewhere that sells, and installs, Compustar setups please let me know :)

Compustar is decent along with astrostart.

Just order one online and get a vehicle diagram from the12volt.com. I'm guessing you could handle it pretty well.

I put mine in myself. You can do it.

Re: Where to go for Remote Start?

I'm sure I "can", but I don't want to. It's for the ladies Daily Driver, and it's her xmas present. I just want to have it installed by a pro, and I'd prefer to avoid Best Buy, while at the same time avoid Joe's Basement Backyard Git 'R Done Shack. Just find someone or somewhere reputable.
