Drop it like it's hot... Or not...
How big of a deal is it if I get lowering springs and not new struts....
Should I just sell the springs? I'm not gonna buy new struts... PS... Anyone here do alignments for cheap? |
Lowering your car with stock struts is a gamble. Some people can do it without blowing them out, others blow struts within a few days or weeks of installing them. I'd ask on MNSC, there are a couple 3G owners who have lowered their cars.
|
How low and what springs? Pro-kits can be installed on good condition stock shocks fairly safely. Tires Plus generally has an internet coupon available for a $40 alignment.
|
Tires Plus? I wouldnt let them drive my car into the bay... Too many bad stories about that place. Although it is an awesome price. Cost me 100 back when redid some crap at twin city tire.
|
Same here, had to spend another 200 dollars for someone to remove 18 lugs because the overtorqued them and ruined they inner sections and they had to be cut off. At least they torqued them down, eh Allan? j/k
|
Go to Twin City Tire in Bloomington for the alignment. It's about a mile south of 494 off Lyndale. If your heading south it will be on your left hand side.
Every car I have ever had aligned I had there. Awesome work and not overkill on the price. |
I Would beg burrow or steal to get it all done at once you won't kick your self in the ass in the long run. Ride quality, longevity will be improved
|
how much do you wanna spend for the allignment
|
Less than 100 bucks would be a good deal for a respectable place, id say.
|
For the alignment, I'd like to spend around $75... give or take. No more than $100...
As for the springs: Tein Sport something-or-other... They're green, and they were $220, I got em for less than that... They aren't here yet though... Just kinda wondering. The car (struts/Shocks) would have 67k miles... About... Thanks for those who have already replied... |
i think the allignment at our shop is less then $100 but ill check that out if you want, might be kinda a drive from ya though... dinkytown-minnetonka.
|
I might be looking for the same in the spring. Where do you work? I would be for my 1G.
|
Yes, location please....
Anyone here have ANY experience (friends etc) with dropping a 3g?? |
Hey kiel you have to get your frame bent back on a frame rack first other wise your just wasting your time and money. New tires every two months is not cheap.
|
I had lowered my stratus 1.6" total with 1.5" drop from Suspension Techniq. i had the springs in for total of 25,000 miles and the shocks were fine, get the washers for the back to fix the rear camber, other than that the fronts will be fine. If you don't know what needs to be done for the back let me know i can give you instructions...

Ya know Enes, I totally forgot you drove an R/T...
I will let you know when I need instructions... DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO MIGHT BEND A FRAME FOR CHEAP?? |
Go to a bodyshop, if they can't do it at their location, they will surely know who can.
|
and i also have a pretty good spring compressor, which i will be using this weekend, raising a car i droped this summer.. makes the job a LOT easier.. hydraulic spring compressor :) i got it down to like 2 hours per car in and out all done ;) with bulshitting the whole time. etc etc..

Well I will be selling the springs, as I have talked to a few other 3g GT/2g RT owners, and if the shocks and struts have more than 30k miles on em, they'll blow. Rozzwell's blew at 400 miles, and another guy I spoke with blew just shortly after. Someone notified me to not do it... So I won't.
Anyone need 3g springs? |
